The question is did he make the players around him better? Look at a rookie Larry Bird when his team improved from 29 wins to 61? Parish, McHale and DJ were not on that team either. You can also look at Magic that vastly improved a Lakers team with Kareem already in it and lead them in game 7 in the finals when Kareem went down.

I think Max a good point, you can't pluck guys in their prime and put hem in eras, to really know how good they would be, let them grow up in that era. MJ would feast because he would know how to train and use his athleticism to his advantage.

MJ would probably be as good offensively as KD is. maybe he could score close to 40 points per game if his team is bad and he gets most of the shots. i don't see him shooting 16 free throws a game. unless he becomes a certified flopper like harden, he isn't getting that many calls. and as much as mj fans make fun of todays era, i bet they'd agree that mj wouldn't flop for his calls.

Mr Sock the first video was much better researched. Let’s stop lying about the superiority of defense back in the day, it’s all emotion and nostalgia. Defense back then was great because of the physicality, defense today is great because of advanced zone concepts and longer/quicker/faster defenders. If you allowed a guy like LeBron to play against smaller/slower defenders who couldn’t zone against him at all, he would drop 50. If you double/triple teamed him with those same defenders, he would find the open man and put up triple doubles every night.

@ Pat4Clippers I agree. For these youngsters that don't know how good the game of basketball was back then. The GOAT didn't make the team. You had to bring a little bit more than HYPE to the court. Currently, you have freshmen in high school being projected in the draft. Before, a freshman would be concerned with just making the freshman team. Lebron owes his career to David Stern. In a panic trying to replace the GOAT, he compromised the integrity of the NBA. Those changes allowed kids to come in and play what was considered to be a man's game(No Babies Allowed). If they struggled at certain aspects of the game, he would implement another rule to help them along. Consequently, we are here today debating a point that shouldn't ever be debated. LJ is and will never be on the level of a MJ. Moreover, he could never have played in the old NBA with his current skill set.

Kobe averaged 35 ppg and Kobe was never as good as Jordan. You want to know how great MJ was, don't compare their numbers in the regular season. Compare their numbers in the postseason when the pressure is at its highest and defenses are at their tightest. Then consider the fact that Jordan never played with a player like Shaq who could command a double team. Jordan was always the main focus of the opposing team's defense every single time he stepped out on the floor! And he still dropped buckets. As Jay Williams stated, a 40 ppg estimate is being conservative.

Jay Williams made an excellent point that i'm sure went over most people's heads. Back in the 2000's when Kobe was in his hey day, someone asked Derick Fisher about Kobe's greatness. Fisher said something to the effect of - " People just don't understand. This man could easily average 40 points a game. But he plays in a system that doesn't allow him to do that." That system that Fisher was talking about was the Triangle Offense. The triangle offense limits the offenisve players scoring opportunities because of the constant ball movement. So instead of one guy dominating the ball, the ball is shared between three players. You just heard Williams say how difficult that system was to learn. That system is what caused Jordan's numbers to drop in the 1990s when Phil took over and moved Jordan off ball and let Pippen do more of the facilitating. And Jordan STILL averaged 30! Folks who never saw Jordan play just don't understand how good of a scorer he was!

Yeah bring up era only strengthens Jordans case.. let's just look at some numbers. Wilt had a 50ppg season when the league avg 145 ppg . Harden at 35ppg when the league avg 114 ppg . Jordan avg 37 when the league avg 95 per game.. not to mention Jordan played in an era when the league avgs the least points and yet he has the highest career avg 30.1 among NBA history.. to bring up the concept of era only strengthen Jordans case because he literally has a higher avg when the entire league scored the least points and had lesser possessions.. there is no argument... There were simply less possessions fewer total points scored in a team during Jordans era. Mathematically and objectively looking at Jordans era, it was an era that was the most difficult time for anyone to score high and yet Jordan still came out on top and destroyed everyone

  • @chadbinette3201

Go back and watch what Jordan went through in those series against the pistons or Celtics. Today's nba players would get the ball stolen by Jordan and Jordan would of went scored and been back on DEFENSE while the other player was still whining to the ref. He would of dominated inside the arc because when he played Jordan had to go through 6 guys in the paint to get to the basket, now a days maybe 2 guys in the paint while 7 other players are standing out by the three point line. He played every game, that don't happen today, he played both sides of the ball , players don't do that, and I think just in those two points Jordan had more endurance than 90% of the players today. He had seasons of averaging 30 points or more, THEN so today nba easy 40 points a game for Jordan, EASY!
