Mizuno Neo Vista is NOT the New Balance SC Trainer

Спорт

A first impression of the Mizuno Neo Vista turned comparison to my favorite shoe of 2022: the New Balance SC Trainer. I touch on the upper, the midsole and the outsole and make reference to three other videos I made on the SC Trainer v1 and V2 -- you can catch them all here.

Oh, it IS worth noting. Mizuno totally sent me these shoes. It is a TOTAL coincidence that my two favorite surprises this year are the Wave Rebellion Pro 2 and the Neo Vista. Mizuno is my new New Balance.

New Balance SC trainer V1 is my all time favorite running shoe, I have 2 pairs but one is done now, can't find any more for sale, they are gone now, so I cant wait to try the Mizuno neo vista it looks so fun! I just hope they don't all sell out before I get one.

SC Trainer V1 was a fantastic shoe (and I’m about to begin wearing my last pair)! I still need to try the Neo Vista. I never tried the SC Trainer V2 because the reviews were so middling.

Would say skip the v2. Neo vista has a fun bounce but it’s a different feel under foot. I would try to see if fleet feet or somewhere carries it so you can try them on first . Excited to try trainer v3 but they kept 40mm stack and geometry of v2

I ran in Neo Vista in a Mizuno Demo event. I think the foam is too soft for me. That said the foam firms up a bit when you pick up the pace, perhaps because the modifed EVA foam in this shoe is not expanding as fast so that gives the sensation of firmness on faster paces. I dig the upper and looks of the shoe. Definitely I would like to get a pair, perhaps as a recovery day shoe and/or as a causal shoe but I need a good deal to justify the price. I would personally wouldn't use them over track surface as the softness of the track adds to the softness to the degree of becoming mush. I like a bit firmer shoes on the track. I have bought Brooks Hyperion Tempo at $65 (originally $150) and they work great on track as a non-plated shoe. There are still sizes available. Considering Hyperion Tempo predates Hyperion and Hyperion Max, Brooks must have had a warehouse full of those. Well, it is an opportunity for those looking for a responsive lightweight unplated track shoe. Outsole rubber also lasts so it is a durable shoe.

I love the Hyperion tempo. Such an underrated shoe. They don’t make them like that much anymore . The vomero and Pegasus have ground contact but they’re not as light and nimble. I also like the puma liberate nitro which is usually on sale for 65 or so. It’s super simple, light weight, no plate - good at the track

@@MidLifeRunner I used Liberate Nitro 1 as well. It was one of my lightest shoes and yes I used them on track as well. V2 got a bit heavier a bit (unfortunately) but still a decent shoe.

Mizuno is a brand that I really want to try out. I saw at sierra page the wave something shoe, but they didn’t have my size 😔. Good thing I’m not in a hurry to find a “new” shoe. 🙈😆

I'm usually hesitate to try out new brands, even when strongly recommended like the TOPO Cyclone. The Wave Rebellion Pro 2 was only $140 so that was my gateway shoe and I really enjoyed the foam. Mizuno sent me the Neo Vista and there's no looking back. I'll try any race or speedy model they have going forward, especially since New Balance feels like they kind of went backwards in 2024 with their new fuel cell formulation. Maybe the SC Trainer 3 will be good but it stayed at 40mm but you never know. And we definitely have too many shoes. The next video is my 12 shoe rotation, and I'd like to run through some of those before any new ones comes in

Yeah these shoes are a little bit long but I wouldn’t say wider. The upper material stretches and has some give, but there isn’t much support or side walls :/ it’s an area of opportunity for v2 for sure

  • @MidLifeRunner

Depends on how much you want underfoot. It’s like when I battled rebel v3 and the sc Trainer. If the race is important, then something more nimble like the Rebel. If it’s a hilly half marathon? Would say mizuno

The Neo Vista is a Nimbus with a plate in it. I have this shoe and I run at 5'8", 170lbs. From what I've seen, the lighter runners seem to like it, but it's too mushy for anyone my size. I'm returning them.

  • @MidLifeRunner

That sounds accurate. Yowana didn’t care for it and he tends to like denser foam like light strike pro versus the softer stuff. This is only slightly bouncier or supportive than the SC trainer v2. I can definitely see it being too mushy.

I did not have the New Balance SC trainer V1. I had the New Balance SC trainer V2 and it's mushy and clunky. Terrible shoe. I am a heel striker and slow runner (light) so I don't know what to decide about the Mizuno Neo Vista 🙄.

  • @MidLifeRunner

I would say it’s a pass. The geometry is much like the v2 and the foam is only a little less mushy. And while it’s a tad more dense, it’s still a softer and somewhat mushy . I would pass
