I’m really surprised that your channel doesn’t have more subs. I love the way you break down the data, and have a more realistic swing speed. I got fitted into the 923’s about a month ago and finally hit them at the range for the first time today. I love the feel and sound. They replaced a 22 year old set of Calloway’s.

nice i went with the hot metal HL version since i have lower swing speeds - love the sound and feel (played 921 HM in the past)

Picked up a set of 921 HM. last year. Only changing when i "age" out of the metal shafts and/or HL makes more sense

Such a thorough review Jay. No one matches the thought, effort, and results you put into making reviews as relevant and as informative as possible for your viewers considering purchasing the clubs you review. BTW your response to my question in another video influenced what made my bag (no 4 iron). Here is my bag setup (working great for me, again you influenced it): Your review of JPX923 HMP vs JPX923 Forged really helped me in deciding to go in the HM / HMP direction. For irons 6 & 7 JPX923 HM and 8 through PW JPX923 HMP. Wedges (48 GW, 54 SW, 60 LW) JPX923. I tried the Mizuno S23 wedges and really liked them, but I like the 923 wedges even more as the swing arc seems to dial in more effortlessly for me. 5 iron is really a hybrid iron as in the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo. That thing gets out of bad lies like it's on rails (oh wait it IS on rails : -) and fills a versatility role really well. Then for the longer clubs TSR2 Driver (incredible), and 3W & 5W are Mizuno STZ. I like those fairway woods better than the STZ230 because even though the 230 may be slightly longer I prefer the weight a bit further back in the STZ for forgiveness. I don't do well with hybrids (has to be mental), so went with the Ping G430 Max 7 wood (Mizuno doesn't make a 7W in STZ or STZ230 and I don't want the STX 7 wood). The Ping is working great. For the putter I have what I believe is the original version of the Taylor Made Rossa monza Spider. There isn't a putter made today that for me matches the 3-way alignment of this putter. It has a 2 ball "back of ball outline" which is very different than a full "2 ball" which I don't like at all. Then a long target line in the middle, flanked by 2 shorter target lines that join both of the 2 ball outlines. Thank you again for your great reviews. My bag is much better for it. If you can I would love to see you review the Mizuno S23 Wedges vs. the JPX923 Wedges.

Very interesting video, firstly I had a set of JPX 919 forged and for what ever reason could not get on with them, went back to a set of Ping I200's, mixed results, then had an opportunity to buy a mint condition set of JPX 921 HM's not looked back since, they look superb, don't make a loud noise at all, feel great, and as a result my h/c has come down to 12, would I upgrade to 923 for a perception of a thinner top line, my OCD says yes but my wallet and scorecard say no.

I've just picked some 921HM's up. Was considering the 923's for some time, but watching some comparisons with how marginal the perfomance difference is alongside recent new year sales the 921's (6-GW) with a 923 hi-fli 5 hybrid thrown in for £599 was too good of a deal over the 923's (5-PW) for just shy of £800. As a high handicapper, I doubt I would have really been able to tell the difference anyway between the models 😅

I'm going to buy a second burner set blindly and was wondering what you would choose out of these irons, driver and fairway woods. Firstly irons: Ping I230, P770 or Black Pro 225s. Second off Driver: Stealth 2 plus, Callaway Paradym or TSR3. Lastly for Fairway woods I'm not sure I have any planned out yet but if you had a favorite what would you choose? (Reminder this is not going to be my main set of clubs so the fitting to the specific style of person does not affect me) and in advance thanks for your help!

Had a MIzuno fitting last month and was fit into the the HM at 2* flat. The HM HL went too high and had too much spin. Because it was only 38* that day and windy had another fitting today at a green grass fitter hitting everything. Still was fit into Mizuno, with the same shaft, but with the HL head at standard lie. Both top rated fitters and both hitting the ball outside off a mat with trackman but different results, so I am confused! Did not feel like my swing had changed.

  • @AskGolfNut

Hi Harry depending on the fitter in question, they'll have their own opinion on lie angle. The swing dna tool will show the shaft and it's good that you got comparative shafts from the two, fittings. Trackman isn't brilliant at measuring things like dynamic lie as they aren't directly (that accurately) measuring the head. So I'm not surprised that lie would be different. They are probably reacting to your required flight on the day in question rather than seeing what your baseline lie requirements are 👍

I’ve been playing the 900 Forged for last 5 years with a 15 handicap. Was thinking of upgrading to either 923 HM or 923 Forged. My 7 iron carries 155-160. Do you think I’d miss the forged feedback if I went with Hot Metals? (Am LH,so unfortunately can’t try 225’s)

Hey there CacheCropp. In case you haven't seen it Jay has by far the best review video comparing the JPX923HMP vs. JPX923 Forged. The improvements in JPX923HMP vs. the 921HMP IMO brought it much closer to the forged in terms of traditional forged strengths like looks, feel, sound, backspin, peak height, descent angle and maybe most importantly consistency in distance (the standard deviation in carry and total distance with the JPX923 HMP was really tight in Jay's test). At the same time the JPX923 HMP beat the 923 Forged in total distance and forgiveness. For me the JPX923 HMP and HM (haven't tried the HL) are as close to best of both worlds as you can get.

@@markwest9119 I did watch it and my takeaway was the Forged and HMP are so close as to be almost indistinguishable. In this case, I’d rather have a forged club. But maybe I missed some of the finer points he highlighted, so I’ll rewatch it. Thanks

Love everything about the 921 hot metal pros, but notice with irons like this my gapping from 8 iron through wedges is always far too large. With a driver swing speed of 105-110 do you notice this to be a common issue with new stronger lofted irons?

  • @AskGolfNut

    @AskGolfNut

    Жыл бұрын

Hi Cody, very much so. Generally people that use Game Improvement irons have a slower swing speed so the stronger lofts don't show up as too big gapping. However, for people that have your swing speed to protect against the larger gaps between irons I would suggest going to say the Forged which would reduce the gaps, also reduce distance a touch but then the faster swing players don't have to worry normally too much with distance 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

If it’s like cheating then why not use it ? Don’t understand why people use blades when we’re all amateurs. Even you mr KZreadr, there’s a reason you’re on here! Lol get the cavity backs in the bag! I’m off 8.0 and would never think to use blades because I ain’t no pro!

Simply due to enjoyment. I enjoy using the equipment I do. I also enjoy playing golf and scoring well but I'd enjoy it less if I didn't use the equipment that I find enjoyable to use. Everyone is different and we all have different wants, needs, likes and dislikes..... That's the beauty of the human race and this game we all enjoy. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻

I agree. There is very little reason for people to use blades. You have to be so good to benefit from them ESPECIALLY mid irons to long irons. I go between 2 and 7 handicap and I use Hot Metals. You heard that right, not even Hot Metal Pros.

Manufacturers make all different kinds of iron models to suit all players wants and needs. We are all different and enjoy the game differently. People can always have opinions on other people, that's their right to have, I just think that whatever part of the game that golfers enjoy, the scorecard, the walk, the social aspect, the equipment or their surroundings, whatever they can do to maximise that is the best way froward. Not all focus on raw scoring, a lot find fun in other parts of the game that are just as valid to them as the other golfer that is focus solely on scoring 👍🏻👍🏻

Things have changed over the years greatly, I can remember when 7 irons were 37 degrees which is more like modern day traditional 8 irons 😊 but then again CG placements have lowered massively also so launch is much better than prior decades. Yes it's all marketing at the heart of it, sales is the driving factor, but with improved performance comes increased sales so at least it's not money for old rope 👍🏻
