During a mixed media art experiment, I uncovered a new way to use alcohol inks with Jo Sonja's Crackle Medium to create crackle effects in your art work. This is a tutorial of different ways to layer and create glazes for your art that will look like cracked glass. Creating beautiful abstract crackle glazes is an exciting new way to use these alcohol inks. Note that with all the successful glazes, I am working on a hardboard. Yuppo is too flexible and nonporous for this application. If you want to ensure that your alcohol inks do not move, put an acrylic isolation coat over them before applying the medium with or without inks incorporated. Using the medium directly on inks will rewet them enough to mix into the medium just slightly, giving an extra dimension to mixed media abstract works of art.
