"mixed-ish" Stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar & Tika Sumpter Chat About The Latest "black-ish" Spin-off

Ойын-сауық

The "black-ish" franchise expands with its newest spinoff, "mixed-ish," coming to ABC this fall. Rainbow Johnson recounts her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the ‘80s, and the dilemmas they face to acclimate in the suburbs while staying true to themselves. Bow’s parents Paul (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and Alicia (Tika Sumpter) decide to move from a hippie commune to the suburbs to better provide for their family. As her parents struggle with the challenges of their new life, Bow and her siblings navigate a mainstream school in which they’re perceived as neither black nor white. This family’s experiences illuminate the challenges of finding one’s own identity when the rest of the world can’t decide where you belong.

Being of Mexican decent is being mixed-ish. People don’t realize it .. but the Mexican ethnicity is mestizo (a) which referred to a person of combined European and Indigenous American descent. My mother shared a few incidents where she would be questioned and doubted about us being her daughters. People would assume she was our nanny.. She exhibited the more “Mexican features” while we looked like our Dad who had green eyes fair skin. Loved her attitude about it she thought it was funny that people could not believe that we were her daughters.. This happened growing up in the 80s. We have a beautiful family. I have two siblings who look like our father light eyes and lighter skin including myself.. and two siblings who look more like our mother with darker eyes and skin.. I love the diversity that can be found in one family!

You forgot the African component. Hundreds of thousands of Africans were taken there. They didn't just disappear you know. Millions of their Afro-Mexican descendents still live mostly along the Mexican eastern seaboard.

The only issue I had with the passage is that the young girls character was portrayed as strong and self sufficient instead of an innocent soft young girl needing a hero. This narrative has plagued black women and made our men feel inadequate and unnecessary, which is far from truth. When will a young black girl play a damsel in need of a hero?

@@user-wr5he7df6z .. That's how you saw it. I did not. And am sure many dark skin men didn't as well. We can sit here and play the strong black girls seen as dominant and not needing a man, false. The media is known to show such. Common made me watch the show cause it portrayed a black girl as lead. She played that role amazingly. If that's the reason some of our people chose to not watch. Then that's truly sad. 911 has a Angela Bassett. Yet it's on their third season.✌

She played the heck out of that character and if she suddenly turned soft I would have been disappointed. She reminded me of the character from Terminator 2.
