    This is perhaps my favourite of the Outlander PHEV reviews (alongside Autogefuhl's Germanic comprehensiveness). You review with character and enthusiasm, and I like that. Ultimately, this car is an appliance, but a really nice appliance that happens to pollute a whole lot less. We got a new (10km on the clock) medium-spec 2019 model with slightly smaller 12kWh battery, but it came in at just $37k. Can you get a cheaper EV in Australia? We're taking delivery in a few days so I can't speak to the details, but you've captured the feel of this vehicle well. BTW, SA plates in Melbourne? I presume this was a Mitsubishi press vehicle, but I'd love to know the story there. Also good job of doing the review and staying within your allocated boundaries!

    Thanks for the comment! Great buy at $37k 🙂 Yes it's a press vehicle, they cycle it around the states and that was just here at the time! You'll see I have a lot cars especially with NSW plates 😁

    Driving the PHEV for almost 4 years, I can say that it is a very trustful car, very comfortable to drive and highly relaxing on long distances with about 7.2-7.5 l/100km in Save mode, considered driving at 120-130km speed. I had the Outlander diesel from 2014 for about 5.5 years before that had not been more efficient on diesel consumption than the PHEV in combined electric and fuel driving. Either way, 2 tons will have to be moved. As mentioned, the MMCS has its miracles. Although in reality, on a daily basis, I use far less features of the car than it actually brings in. It is straight and easy to load and drive. Recuperation is fun to use and earning surprisingly much energy on a route.

    I already love this SUV! But the 50 km battery is disappointing! Yas. I think most of people wants to drive the PHEV cars all the day electrically & gasoline only for emergencies! They should have shrinked gasoline engine components for the batteries capacity. It'll be on my list until they increase batteries capacity. & I hope they enhance the range even more with the upcoming sold state batteries!

    You are missing in your review the fact that this car loses the acceleration when is going up hills for more than 10 miles since the cell battery gets depleted and at that point, the fan stop working and gets overheated. Did you try to go up hills in this car for more than 10 miles?

    Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a much worse fuel economy than Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV when the battery is depleted since Toyota uses a parallel hybrid while Mitsubishi a serial one despite claiming being able to run in parallel. I wonder why you do not get on sale in Australia PHEVs from Hyundai/Kia and Ford, BMW and Volvo as well from VW/Audi, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar/Land Rover?

  • @CarSauce

    @CarSauce

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yep totally agree, as said in the video if you want a fuel efficient car and you travel a lot, then a PHEV is not for you - the RAV4 hybrid is the best alternative for that! But I still get the appeal of the PHEV, it's for those who may only travel far once in a while and so the remaining time would rather be in an EV 😊

    It does run in parallel mode at the speeds around 65 mph and higher. Fuel economy is all right even with the battery depleted (I get around 33 to 35 US mpg's), but it does lose some power.

    Thumbs dow,n you didn't get serious and tell the poor suckers who buy one about it's biggest flaw !! This PHEV has the worst battery degradation of any PHEV in the world. The battery and BMU set up are flawed and have been for 8 years. PHEV users can expect to lose up to 20% of pure EV range in the first 12 to 18 months and it will keep dropping reducing the effectiveness of EV range. Shocking for economy and resale value. There are FB groups dedicated to trying to reset their batteries and monitoring losses. You knew about this flaw and decided not to report it - so you get a thunbs down as it appears you don't really care about your 2000 subscribers getting the "full story". Shame.
