Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross hybrid 2024 review: PHEV ES | Long-term test of Toyota Corolla Cross rival

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross small SUV is well-established, although it's not quite the stalwart that it's similarly sized ASX sibling is - it's a literal teenager. Either way, the Japanese brand's newer crossover faces plenty of competition, namely from the Toyota Corolla Cross.
The Eclipse Cross is a particularly interesting small SUV thanks to its availability of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Several rivals, including the Corolla Cross, offer 'self-charging' hybrid systems instead, so this Mitsubishi is a rarity. So, if a crossover buyer is desperate for a PHEV, it's there.
But is the Eclipse Cross PHEV any good? In this long-term expert review, CarsGuide Journalist Chris Thompson spends three months living with its entry-level ES variant to find out if it has what it takes to handle day-to-day life. More importantly, though, does it improve it?

We test drove one of these today and the first thing both my husband and I noticed is how EXTREMELY comfortable the seats are (and especially compared to the other hybrid SUVs that we tried out). The one we test drove had a leather and alcantra interior but I like the fact that we can go with cloth seats if we choose, as I know dark leather seats can get hot in the sun. My husband is 190 cm tall (so quite tall) and there was really good leg room for him and his knees in the passenger seat and driver seat. The seats themselves were so comfortable that I joked that they felt like they were made for my body. The back seats were also very comfortable and can also recline, which is nice. The windshield is quite large, which provides a really nice wide view while driving. We both immediately noticed that as well. So I think this would be a nice car to take on long road trips due to the comfort and the view you get from the large windshield. It is a heavy, very solid-feeling car. I felt very safe in it. Driving on the battery was extremely quiet and when it switched to using gasoline while on the expressway, that felt smooth as well. It apparently doesn't have the best gas mileage, but for people like us who don't do much driving and tend to stay in a five-mile radius for shopping, etc., this seems like a good choice because one charge will last us a whole week. We were both so happy with the car (thus far) that we're considering buying it and are in the stage of doing more research about it now. So thanks for your video. :) P.S. We sat in a Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid and it felt tiny inside, like we were suffocating in there, and like everything felt and looked really cheap, in terms of its interior. The Eclipse interior actually felt quite nice and user-friendly and VERY spacious inside. I think three kids could easily sit in the back seat. Sorry for such a long comment. Thanks again for your video :)

16K over the petrol. PHEV is never worth that money. 47k you can buy Atto 3 or MG 4 mid- specs if you really want EV. Or Top of the line Corolla cross hybird , real hybird

I always forget that Mitsubishis still come with CHAdeMO ports. The dual-plug system works fine enough but I hope they can update that with their next plug-in vehicle.

Wowsers that’s a big chunk of $$ for PHEV. Too expensive for my liking. Even in petrol version it is a bit overpriced.

not sure why eclipse cross doesnt have all LED headlights on all trims, I mean look at their little brother ASX all of them have LED headlights as standard. Halogen is so outdated.

I feel mitsi should drop the 4wd system out. It adds weight, cost, and reduces fuel economy. It will be able to sell a lot more qty.
