Mitre Peak via Cows Creek and Tarn Ridge circuit, Tararua Range, New Zealand
Heather, Nick and Daniel spend three long days tramping in the Tararua Ranges. On this circuit take plenty of water and food.
We visited Mitre Flats Hut, Cows Creek Hut, Arete Hut, and Tarn Ridge Hut. Dorset Hut is also a good offshoot hut visit if you're quick. The Waiohine Pinnacles is apparently the head of 5 rivers of of the Tararuas making it quite a a monumental part of the trip, and the scariest. On a really windy day I'd suggest staying at Arete Hut for the night, too dangerous to be up there. Total of 27hrs walking.

As a man who hates heights? How bad was it on the tops? Where was the picture taken of the guy with the orange pack glung to the rock face?
Cool video! I just have a question. Why did you pitch the tent at cow creek when there is a perfectly good hut there? No tickets? Nice video tho :)

Robert Gibson Hi Robert, the very small hut was full and I prefer the inside of a tent to the huts :) and it's such a gorgeous spot next to the river. We carry hut passes in case we need to use the huts in terrible weather. Usually we wouldn't stay so close to a hut but we couldn't pass up on this site.
