Man, what a journey this just took me on, I closed my eyes and I was able to imagine a day in the life of a quiet Japanese salary man living in the late 80s and going to work on a Friday. Mitch Murder if you happen to read this I just want to say your work is truly magical and of course thank you for it all
I like how this functions as a joke, but also can serve as a nice little portfolio piece
Passed vibe check
This is the first looking back iconification of the 00’s I’ve seen that’s really hit the target.

Wiiwave. LOL! (I call it the “Techno-Kawaii-Zen” aesthetic) Though I guess that name is too long and needs a new name.

This gives the same vibes as the Nintendo Wii, Honda's Asimo Robot, Bullet Trains, and the first generation Scion XB. You know what I'm talking about? The color white, bamboo desk plants. Minimalist futurism with a Japanese twist? (By futurism I mean the stuff I thought was futuristic as a kid in the 00s such as the Wii.)

@@charliechuckles6494 Sure. You know how it takes some time before we get a sense of the pop cultural iconification of a decade? I remember when we didn't know what kind of a thing the 90's was. You could know having lived it, but that's not the same as what it's emergent persona will become. We end up getting these touchstones in our arts and entertainment's looking back perception of a decade. As more of these nods or homages occur they tend to coalesce and eventually, you have a preeminent concept of a decade. This Wii soundtrack concept of Mitch Murder's was the first I can recall to really hit one of those notes (for me) that become a part of that emerging iconification of a decade. I have no idea how exactly the 2000's are going to be presented as more nostalgic memes on the decade take hold. It's also true that a decade holds quite a bit of change that is often too much to characterize in a singular encapsulation. Which is why it never becomes a true thing, but rather just a pop cultural fantasy. I love the fantasy the 80's iconification has become, but the early 80's was still pretty grim and ludditish as the 70's. The fantasy seems to favor the pink neon glitz and tech which emerged and existed in 'peak 80's' if you will. The end of the 80's was also starting to trend into the hippy dippy 90's with events like the Berlin Wall coming down and the end of the Soviet Union having an iconic impact in the western world. So its all just a fun time slice that ends up emerging and popularizing certain attributes of a decade. Its fun to wait and see and observe as the space and time from the decade widens.

The Geico caveman in the airport commercial is a good example of 2000s iconification. As is the song Remind Me used in the commercial.

I see. Thanks for the explanation Arc_87. So the description is visible yet for some reason the timestamps do not jump to the times with a mobile device as they do on a computer. In any case, you'd think this sort of thing would have been fixed years ago but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Google has become complacent and lazy having a monopoly on video content services, with many changes over the past decade being detrimental to the website.
Water cooler and quitting time are my favourites. This is a masterpiece. Thankyou for uploading.
This brings me back to my childhood. Nintendogs, Wii Sports, Wii Music, Wii Fit, etc. Early 2007, 11 year old me just got the Wii, it doesn't work very well so my parents sent it back to Nintendo to get it fixed. It works like a dream from then on. I remember making Mii versions of people I knew. The memories. I think it was the Wii that got me interested in Japan. Now that I'm an adult I study the Japanese language. RIP Satoru Iwata.
I always loved you Mitch, now I’m finally subbed. Wtf took me so long! Your work is amazing. Galactic Treasure.
A welcome addition to the productivity canon. As someone with high stress reactions when on the phone. I keep this music playing to calm my tensions.

I've been on the hunt for Wii games. Saw the thumbnail and thought "I've never heard of this one before".
Wiiwave. I was predicting this to be a thing. Not just musically but also aesthetically. I call it “techno-kawaii-zen”. It's my idea for a stylistic movement. It's all about minimalism, the color white, bamboo, kei cars, bullet trains, sushi bars and this “cute elevator music” that screams 1990s early 2000s corporate Japan. Basically it's whatever the style of the Wii was. The scion XB also embodies this style.

@@GarrisonMorton I wouldn't be surprised if your TKZ aesthetic blows up and becomes its own force by the mid 2030's. Just gotta wait a bit for the youngsters who assimilated this into their culture-identity to age and mature and become jaded with how the future turns out, and wish to hearken back to the good ol' days. Me, I'm a child of the 80's and am so grateful for the musical touchstones of my youth via the retrowave/vaporwave/synthwave revival. Your day will come too! 🤙
