Just finished Final Empire a few hours ago. Maybe not the best book I've ever read or anything, but a really fun book, and I can see why it's a classic. I actually liked the chapters at the balls, because that's where most of the politicking was. They also had a really creepy vibe to me, because of the contrast of all the unspeakable horrible things the nobles would do to Skaa and each other. Something goofy I noticed, was that even by the end of the book Elend never learns Vins real name. I'm assuming it happens off screen in the epilogue, but it's still weird. Also, Kelsier and Sazed are Vins two dads lol

Ugh, man. What made me feel it coming was how he intentionally created a god-like persona around the skaa, always telling himself it would be necessary. Lost in Discovery I was actually really mad at Kelsier for not sharing his plan at all. Like maybe they could have thought of something if they tried it together. Maybe they could have figured out the lord rulers secret if he had shared that metal with Vin before he died. I know the mentor dying is supposed to happen, but usually it would happen in book two!

It's been a few years since I've read the Mistborn series and I can say it's still one of my all time favorite fantasy series. I fell in love with allomancy immediately and just fell into the world Sanderson created. I actually, just today, recieved a set of metal dice for the tabletop Mistborn game that are plated with all the allomantic metals with their allomantic symbols either raised or depressed into the surface depending on if they are a pushing or pulling metal. Definitely going to be the centerpiece of my dice collection.

Finished the book about a week ago. I loved Sazed too (I pronounce it “Sah Zed”). In fact, aside from the clearly defined “bad guys” like Camon, I like all of the characters. I liked the twist that Rashek was the Lord Ruler. Loved the twist about Reen not really abandoning Vin, but actually dying while protecting her with his silence. Sadly, I was hoping Vin would bump into him again at some point but oh well. Kelsier’s death was spoiled for me by some Rhythum of War review channels because they just threw out Cosmere spoilers. But because of their spoilers, I’m excited to read Mistborn: Secret History when I finish the main series 😍

I just finished this book a few days ago and have been thinking about it a lot. I don't really read that often so if I actually finish a book it means I probably enjoyed it quite a bit and Mistborn I definitely enjoyed. The world Sanderson created is dark and interesting and I can just imagine strolling down the ash-covered streets of Luthadel. While I thought Kelsier was a bit too "hey i'm charastimatic, I wink!" for me, he was still an interesting character. Marsh was also an interesting character in the way that he was sort of in the background for a while but then played a significant part later on. Thanks for the vid!

Props to you and any Cosmere fan for reading this series after reading the SA. When I first read the Way of Kings I was like - woah, is this really the same author who wrote the Final Empire? People put Mistborn in the bridge between YA and adult fantasy - and I can see why. The content is not really YA. Maybe having a female protagonist as a 16 year old is. But really I think it's the writing in the Final Empire that seems super accessible and YA-ish compared to his later books. That's not a bad thing. I am just pleased to see an author improve so fast in his writing. Like there is a HUGE difference, at least to me, in his prose and writing skills between the Final Empire and Hero of Ages. That's just from book 1 to book 3 in a series. And even though he may not be a master at prose like Rothfuss or Patricia A Mckillip (the queen of prose - so good at it that one of her fans, a poet, got her to marry him somehow), he is just so amazing at storytelling that you just can't help but be so invested. And his character work improves over time as well. Though Mistborn era 1 is always near and dear to my heart, Era 2 has the amazing character work and quirks that make them, to me, way more colorful than era 1 characters (except Kelsier, I'll always love him the best from the Mistborn series). That said, I'm happy that Mistborn was my first Sanderson series. Weirdly, my very first Sanderson chapter that I ever read was the first chapter of the Hero of Ages. My friend's husband took my kindle and uploaded hundreds and hundreds books onto it like almost a decade ago. Always a lover a fantasy, I checked some titles on there and thought, "oh, Hero of Ages sounds like the first of a series. The final empire can't be the first of the series." And thought how weird the series was for starting out with some flying guy in white trying to save a town or something. It wasn't until I got to the second chapter with a kandra that I got really confused and realized that this definitely can't be the first of a series. I guess I really spoiled myself, especially for Well of Ascension. But moral of the story, reading Mistborn first before SA = good decision. But if you're used to big epic fantasies, then Stormlight would be the way to go. And I think according to Man Carrying Thing you're supposed to read Warbreaker in between each entry...I forget....
