I agree that matches should be hosted in Mexico as well, and the specific thing that I'd love to see is this. Initial group stage- 8 groups. Top two from each group proceed to a second group stage, with four in each group. The last place teams gather in a 8 team group, and everyone else goes into four groups with all the mid teams. The outcomes can determine seeding for the following year in some way. That's what we all want to see. The best teams against the best teams, mid against mid, and the worst against the worst. Once you get past all of that, I do think that straight knockout from the last 8 onward should happen in midweek fixtures, home and away, spread through the rest of the season. That's what I'd like to see. As for the USL Championship, I think it makes A Lot of sense for then to link up with the Canadian Premier League. Host something in the south/southwest US during Janurary and February, and see how they match up. In the beginning, it's an exhibition tournament and a chance for Canadian teams to get competitive time on the field. In the long term though, USL can hope to leverage that as a path to the Champions Cup. The CPL gets two teams qualified now, so if the Championship can do well against them, why shouldn't they be able to earn access when playing against them? I actually think that's the single largest opportunity that the USLC has in front of them right now. Imitate Leagues Cup and invent a thing that gives you a bunch of international matches.

Get serious, it'll never be in Mexico. Watch the games. Many US venues are home for Mexican teams. More importantly, the leagues are doing this for the money and you make more on games here. What I agree with is the travel. They should schedule games so that travel is a bit more equitable.

I love the USL call out! MLS will never work with USL. Maybe they might feel pressure when/if USL adapts to pro/rel. We will know this winter...

It is absolutely a must that this new tournament is played in Mexico, USA and Canada. If attendance, traveling, condition of the pitch, the lack of quality of refes is an issue well, so be it. Copa Libertadores happens in a lot worse conditions.

Leagues Cup has been very entertaining though. It fills a nice void between all other US sports being in off season and casual fans might watch. Off season for European football as well. It's in that sweet spot where it draws attention to concacaf

U.S. teams should play 40% away games and Mexican teams should play 60% away games, to be fair. If U.S. teams want to develop their fundamentals they should play more away games.

It's not about rigging things for MLS. If you think that then you dont get the point of leagues cup, which is to generate as much revenue as possible for MLS and liga MX. Obviously that occurs when the games are in the states. Nevertheless, I hope the 2 leagues compromise on the generated revenue and host some games in Mexico for future editions in order to ease the burden.
