I got smoked more making my Drill Sergeant laugh. For context I have a large nose so that was my kryptonite for the whole cycle, and I was hammered for it all the time. I went along with the jokes from time to time. We were in formation and he was just looking at us, dead silence, and he says quietly “Sparks, why the hell is your nose so big”. A few giggles went about our platoon, and I said in a monotone voice “It’s my center of gravity drill sergeant” and the whole platoon erupts with laughter, and he cracks a smile. We got put in the front leaning rest and he knocked the 20 push-ups out with us.

I was overweight when I arrived for basic. As I'm waddling off of the cattle truck, I hear a DS shout, "Look, Battle, we got us a fat ass! Instantly I had 4 or 5 DS on me shouting different commands and insults. I got smoked for being fat and not being able to keep up with the different commands. Lost 25lbs in basic, so I guess their tactics worked.

The drills at the unit next to us got smoked by their first Sargeant for keeping the soldiers out almost all night smoking them and let the soldiers go back inside and sleep. This was in like 2018/19 and for those of you that don't know, they're required to give you a specific amount of sleep if you're not in the filed. Don't know what the trainees did to even get smoked that bad

Went through basic a few months back. The 2 things that got my platoon and my bay dropped the most were, as mentioned, not standing at positions properly, but also latrine standards. One thing a lot of drill sergeants look for is not just a clean and orderly wall locker and bunk display, but a perfect latrine. Things like every toilet seat being down, all sink handles perfectly aligned, if you have shower stalls then all curtains dress right dress, no spots on the mirrors no water in the sinks, the list goes on. For almost 3 weeks that was our morning pushup session, the latrine was not perfect. A lot pf reasons you'll get smoked are not just things you ALONE failed at, but that the group failed as well.

Laughing at farts while the drill sergeant was staring at us got us smoked. This one guy can fart on demand but he was gassier that day so I bet he was venting some excess pressure. Every small fart he made made some guy in the bay giggle while another was trying police people by shushing them. Then he dropped one of the biggest farts he had and we just couldn't take it anymore. We knew we were gonna get smoked. Once we were on the ground, we all started to laugh hard throughout the smoke. Meanwhile the guy that was shushing everyone was screaming, "guys, this isn't funny!" To which the drill sergeant replied, "you do know if you keep shushing people, it makes the situation funnier!" I'll end this by saying this, that basic will make you think every small thing is funny.

@@invaderway I got smoked individually like twice at AIT and the first one was when I first got their cause as a dumb way to teach us the phonetic alphabet we couldn't call our DS by their title and last name lol it was all DS Alpha or DS Bravo and so on and so forth and Mt AIT drills did not like that at all😂😂
