When a woman is drunk and gets raped, people say "she was drinking, what'd she expect to happen?" But if a guy is drunk and rapes someone, it's "He was drunk, it isn't his fault." Anything to force the blame on the victim.

It's heart wrenching to even hear "some people might ask why you didn't fight, why didn't you fight"? Anybody who's ever been sexually assaulted, molested, raped, abused, etc, knows that paralyzing fear. I was sexually abused for years as a child. And I pretended to be asleep every. Single. Time. I NEVER spoke about it until adulthood and even then it's been twice. Once being in confidential counseling. The other telling my mom while explaining myself as to why this person was NOT allowed around my children. And my own mother telling me "if that was true why wouldn't you have told me?". Because I was TERRIFIED. Because I was disgusted with MYSELF. Because I was SURE it was something I did to cause it. Every single time it happened I was paralyzed in fear. Just wanted it to end. And even 20+ years later talking about it makes me physically sick. Embarrassed. Disgusted. I still blame myself. I still convince myself it had to be something I did.. something I brought on myself. I'm married to the most amazing man and still am triggered by sex, by intimacy. He doesn't know why. He doesn't know what happened to me. Because I can't bring myself to speak about it again. Please... Do not EVER question why somebody stayed quiet. That's a painful slap in the face that we already give ourselves often.

Even ignoring the pure shock of when something like that happens to you, and it IS paralyzing like a lot of traumatic things are: What she said in the interview about “this person is already willing to rape you, it’s hard to imagine what they won’t do to you” (paraphrasing, not directly quoting her) is so true. Nobody asks people with a gun to their head why they’re not screaming and yelling. If someone is capable of harming you in this (sexual assault) way, in your mind, they’re also capable of beating you, killing you, hurting someone you love, or anything you can imagine. And you’re 100% justified if you’re operating under that assumption and being quiet to keep yourself safe. I don’t know why some people can’t wrap their minds around that. How is yelling and fighting going to work in your favor? Even if you keep a penis from entering you you’ve already been violated, you’re vulnerable and you’ve got a perpetrator right there who has already proven themselves to be violent beyond what you could have imagined.

I can't believe I have to say this every time under a rape crime documentary, but it's not hard to not rape someone; it's literally human decency to leave a person unable to consent alone. It doesn't matter if they're so drunk they passed out on the floor, give them a blanket, watch their back, and don't touch them while they cannot give consent! Why is this so hard? "How much did you drink? What were you wearing? Did you scream?" Those are not the right questions. Regardless of how much they drank, or what they wore/ didn't wear, or what they said - nobody. deserves. to. be. raped. It's that simple. We have to stop teaching women to "be vigilant, always on edge, always looking at how you're portrayed" and instead teach offenders to "stop being predatory scum of the earth." Edit: To all the people saying "we shouldn't stop teaching women... it's still dangerous" - yes. That's not the point of my post, but yes. I could have worded it better, so that's my bad, but what I'm saying is education shouldn't SOLEY be based towards women when the ROOT of the problem is that predatory men and people should be held responsible, ridiculed, and punished AND predatory behavior should be sniped at the start.

While I agree with 99% of your comment, I don’t agree with the ‘we have to stop teaching women to be vigilant’. I agree not to teach women or men or circles and squares to always look at how they are portrayed, but we need to teach everyone to be mindful of their environment. Because while in a fairytale like utopia it is possible that no one will want to do any kind of harm to the other, in this life, in this universe there will always be psychopath, sociopaths or just simply evil people who will do anything just to harm you, It goes to everyone - a thin guy alone on the streets (don’t even has to be tipsy or anything) can be jumped by 2 big guys, robbed and killed. And sure as hell in the end it’s never the victims fault, but if they are dead…it’s very little consolation to be able to have a headstone ‘I was right’.. So, I don’t go out alone at night, not because I’m afraid specifically of this type of crime. Because I’m afraid of any type of bodily harm others will be able to do to me more easily as opposed if I’m with others. I watch out for my friends and their belongings, I’m not leaving anyone alone, and if I see a person alone and in a vulnerable state I will ask others to help. This is called being vigilant. And even sometimes being vigilant is not enough. (I’m adding this to make it very very clear: In no way, shape or form I would ever say that they were not vigilant, the victims. my comment is simply regarding the general statement of should not teach people to be vigilant), At least this is my opinion. It may be faulty, but it is what it is.

I was raped 1 week ago. I am a 31 year mother, im a good person, I live a drama free life, I don't party, or sleep around ( quite the opposite ) . If all this was the opposite, it wouldn't matter though ( rape is never ok) .... I knew this man. I reported the assult, I did what I thought was right, even though I didnt want to tell. He was arrested that night, and a couple of days later... He was released from jail. The D.A's office dropped charges. The man who made the choice to drop charges ( with the d a's office) , he literally laughed at me. Now, this man walks free and I cry non stop. I dont k ow what to do next. The legal system failed me. I regret not doing what she did ( record him) . I found out, that there are 2 other woman , that he raped ( un reported) ..... I know that there are more , I assume :( . I now know , why people don't tell. The legal system fails us, even calls us liars. I now live in fear. Jim did send him to jail, even if it was only a couple of days. He has a Domestic violence conviction ( previous/ not me) , yet that didnt get the d.a's office to even take a closer look. Words can not explain the way this kind of thing has effected me physically, mentally, emotionally... I am very strong, independent, and I stand up for myself.... This has still controlled me . I can't imagine, this happen g to a younger woman or child. My tough skin has melted away because of him.... I think , that's what he wanted... To strip me of my confidence, to make me feel weak, to k ow, that he was / is in control . Oddly, I also mourn the loss of our relationship . I hate that part, the fact that I suffer from being raped by someone I cared for, but I also hurt, because now I know, that he never cared for me... That he cared so little, that he did this to me on purpose .... That, through my tears, begging, and pain he found comfort .This will forever change me. I now hope, to build myself up from here, and not allow him to continue to make me sink. Im sorry for rambling , but I think I'm only venting or something... If you've be raped , please stay strong. Try not to let it ruin you, because now I know, that is possible .

Honey, I am so so sorry this happened to you. This is the very reason why so many victims never report it. I didn’t. I was repeatedly raped by the man I was having a relationship with and living with when I was a student and a young woman of 22. He was never going to let me go, and I knew reporting it was pointless as no one would believe me: we lived together for petes sake! So eventually I took the only option open to me. I ran. And I ran as far away from him as I could get which was another continent, and started a new life for myself. Years later a good friend who is also a cop told me I was right to run. He said I had no legal leg to stand on in court. Rape is so difficult to prove on any day of the week and I was having a relationship with my rapist. So yes. The legal system does suck. But hopefully in years to come it will change. Until then do NOT let this son of a bitch strip you of your self confidence, and do whatever you can to get the DA to take that closer look. Tell them about his other victims, tell them if they do not take action you WILL go public and make sure the press knows how incompetent they are. Especially now after the whole Me Too movement. And how the protection of women against this type of thing has become more of a priority. And good luck dear. You WILL overcome this. Because not to do so means that SOB wins. And that is not an option

You're absolutely right. Accountability starts at a young age. My son asked why middle schoolers are still told "keep your hands to yourself." He said it didn't make sense (he's a 6th grader in jr high so apparently he's not a kid anymore lol) because they already know this. I told him because even though he and many other students already know this, there are some students who do not do this. Those students don't respect themselves so, they in turn do not respect anyone else. When any of my 3 kids are playing with each other(14, 11, and 6) or all together, I make sure to remind them if anyone says "stop," that means stop, even if they're playing...especially if they're playing. If they hurt each other in the process, by accident, they still need to be held accountable. (I don't mean discipline) Consent and accountability are crucial and should be taught at a young age...it goes hand in hand.

Actually, alcohol plays a big part in it. It lowers peoples inhibitions. It causes black outs. It impairs peoples memory's. I find it impossible to know what really happened to someone if they've had nearly a dozen shots, their memory of the night's events would just be one big blur. And they lose credibility. Sorry, that's just how it is for men or women who are absolutely obliterated with drunkenness.

Even if the questions are scripted to elicit emotional response as you claim, what point is the emotional response of how these girls are "how to answer'? Rape is a traumatic event. Honestly, if I were going to be on TV, sometimes I think I would love to be given scripted answers so I didn't have to tell people what really had happened. Plus, people watching TV probably don't tune in to hear the horrible story of the details of how a few girls were raped. But it doesn't make it any less significant. I think you have a lot of maturing to do when it comes to respecting other people's right to consume alcohol and maintain social credibility afterwards.

These are adults ... And if these young women expect to be treated as such they need to take responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming everyone else at the party. In all of these instances it was their decision to get intoxicated and it was their decision to have sex, and have you forgotten that the guys are also intoxicated? The moral of this pitiful drama is to not do what you can't handle. If you can't drink responsibly and you can't handle the repercussions of having drunk sex, don't do it. Otherwise don't blame the other person because you made a regretful decision. Just because she regrets doing it afterwards does not mean that he raped her.

owmystomachhurts Nice try, but mine actually made sense. Yours goes right back to playing the victim game ... First of all those men have already taken responsibility for the entire event, whereas the woman decides to play victim and blame the guy for her decision to get intoxicated and have sex. Both decided to get intoxicated and both decided to have drunk sex, only the woman blames everyone else, so who's not taking responsibility? And if it was both their decision how is it considered rape? According to you it's only rape if the guy has drunk sex, whereas the woman is always the victim; and the moral is for guys not to get intoxicated around drunk women, because by agreeing to have sex, he'll get accused of rape. Also how dare they blame the other person by denying that they raped anyone.

On that night, we had drinks. I felt comfortable at home, and fell asleep. I found out the next day, he had raped me after I fell asleep. I called him back and recorded the conversation. At first, he tried to claim we 'had sex.' All along, I knew I had fallen asleep with all of my clothes on. I recorded his confession to me. Unfortunately though, I never reported the incident. He went to jail last year; and I looked him up. Turns out that when we met, he was already battling a rape case. Also, he had ANOTHER previous rape case, and was convicted of indecent exposure after we broke up. These guys keep getting away with rape because we are shamed out of reporting it too often.

I recorded a prosecutor threatening to have my children taken away if I didn't help him send my husband to prison. It was illegal that I recorded him and had to hide the recording. That being said, this is horrific seeing some of these comments. I've been raped and assaulted while drinking and even WITHOUT drinking. Shame on any of you would blame a woman because a man rapes her while drinking. I have had men PROTECT me while we were all drinking. Defend me. The good men who realise I was in a vulnerable state and protected me. THEY didn't rape me. So it's no excuse.

He stalked me in school, every single day, wrote me notes and would come into classes he wasn't even in and sit behind me- until I dropped out. It changed my life forever and who I was before it happened. Rape is a life sentence for it's victims, perpetrators should receive an equal punishment. Also, if men were raped as often as women are and as easily, rape would be a death sentence already.

You should read Missoula for the rest of the story to really understand the damage caused to Allison and others. Allison and Beau were best friends as little children and stayed best friends until he raped her while she was sleeping. He broke her pants zipper so that she had to try to hold her pants together as she is running and desperately trying to use her cell phone to call her mother to come get her while she is fending off Bo running after her. She was having a hard time finding out just exactly where she was to tell her mother. Can you imagine being her mother and getting this phone call in the middle of the night and desperately trying to get to your daughter so you can get her to safety? Can you imagine the desperation of these two women in this moment? When Allison's father found out, he cried out in torment, you spend all your life trying to protect your kids and this happens from a friend. Or something to that effect. You'll have to read the book for the exact quote. She was also physically damaged because of a prior condition. She got a chance for some justice only because she was in a program in which kids were training as police do and one of the officers was impressed with her determination in one of the events especially challenging to a very short person. He's the one that got the official video confession used in court. I don't remember what Bo's sentence was but it was a fairly decent one. Getting a rape prosecuted is extremely rare and it makes sense that women don't go through the torture of reporting what happened because they know it's only going to be worse for themselves. Rape trials are the only kind of trial I know of we are the victim is blamed for what happened to themselves

Skye Carl some us thankfully are brave enough. but me, I wasn't. My uncle violated me when I was 5. he said not to tell anyone. I was a child. what did I know? years later I realized what he did was wrong but how could I say something years later? who would believe me. his wife, my dad's sister, was always so sweet and nice To me & his daughters treated me like a little sister. to this day I haven't said a word because for one, I'm now 26 & 2. I just don't even know how I would go about it. I feel shame, guilt, regret. I should of could of would of, but I didnt. I didn't want to break up their family. I wish I could have had the courage or someones guidance but I didn't. now, as far as grown teens & women go..there's many different scenarios and reasons as to why girls don't speak up more. most of the time, rape or sexual assault charges aren't taken seriously. the perverted some of a bitch usually gets off the hook way too easy. other girls see this and get discouraged. or they're scared of what people might think. of course we would love to prevent other people from being a victim but I swear, the fear and despair some of us have is far way worse than a lot of people realize. especially for teenagers. if they were out drinking, they don't wanna say because of their parents. maybe they sneaked out and know they'll be in super trouble if their parents find out. Or even worse, people will assume SHE asked for it. her skirt was too short. her boobs were out. she was blacked out drunk. those are all the excuses cops use. and that's completely wrong on so many levels. women should be able to wear whatever the fuck they want and not worry about some psycho with dark thoughts attacking her. parents need to teach both girls and boys to respect EVERY ONE no matter what they wear or look like. I could go on & on. sorry. I just feel really passionate about this topic. I hope this never ever happens to you or anyone, and if it does...I pray that you do in fact have the balls to say something. the balls that some of us don't have. sorry if any typos

Even if I'm just not feeling like having sex, he knows that means no and doesn't guilt me or try to push me. That's the type of partner you need to search for and always makes sure you're with someone at parties, etc. have a friend or a partner and stay together. My close male friend came over to do homework a year ago in college. It was his birthday, so we had a few drinks together to celebrate. I don't drink often, so it didn't take long for me to be gone. I told him I was tired and headed to bed. I told him it was OK to sleep on my bed because it's pretty big and growing up I was used to sharing a bed with siblings & friends. Never in my life did I think one of my closest friends could do something like this to me, so obviously the thought didn't even cross my mind. I passed out pretty instantaneously. A few hours later, I woke up to him sexually assaulting me. I completely froze, every atom inside of me wanted to scream and tell him to F off, but I physically couldn't. Fortunately for me, he sent a text the next day apologizing for what he'd done, so the report of the case was pretty clear-cut. I hate what he did, I now have a no-contact order on him, and he walked away with a slap on the wrist, but I do hope he finds serious help and becomes a better person and never does this to anyone ever again.

As a victim, when it’s someone you knew or were friends with, it’s so much harder. They try to pull everything “we had a secret relationship” “she just regretted it, we had a thing” “she didn’t want to be found out she cheated”. It’s so much harder because people will assume she’s lying. In my case I provided every message ever exchanged for the 6 month friendship, not a single flirt etc in sight. Recorded him admitting it, texts where I told him to leave me alone detailing what he did and him admitting saying he wouldn’t try contacting me again, but always did. A bartender witness, video of how tipsy I was leaving the bar, friends who I reached out to right after, when distrust that helped me, proof of that. He was someone I thought was my friend, a college in my department, did HW and met my friends and partner as well as hung out with us a lot. Sadly some act like a trustworthy person and the second they see an opportunity to do it alone, they pounce. That’s the hardest part, a stranger can’t pull that. But someone who was seen as a friend will twist anything to be innocent and twist those in your life as well. I told no one outside my family and friends but he did, male dominated field and after I reported because he didn’t leave me alone a month after, got treated different and looks of hate from people in my classes. It’s been a year, still going through it, never spent a night in jail and still in that program. Even though I got an IPO doesn’t matter. I had a rape kit done the next day and even got pictures of the bruising. It’s a nightmare, I went to classes online but thankfully found a job I love remote so I just avoid that campus now. One I loved for several years and had a previous degree from with good memories and friends who were staff or educators. The dean told me even once charged and found guilty he is still allowed to attend that school and program even while I am as long as he’s 500 ft away from me at all times. I basically just gave up on that program. Could take 6 months-3 years before he’s charged anything. Wish the other girl in the program I found out he did this to also the semester before he was friends with would want to speak up, but she’s young and embarrssed, I understand do won’t push her. Embarrassing something I don’t want people to know and something that greatly destroyed my mental state for awhile as well as relationship. I wish no one go through this nightmare, the amount of work and toll on a victim just to try and do anything about it sucks so much. Just to know they might only get a few months locked up and probation time. It’s worth it if they are on a list and I can help scare them to stop or not hurt anyone else. If they do at least they will see my case so I can help that victim as much as I can. Worst part he’s wanting a career in the military as well, no one is going to report against someone in the military in my opinion. I have a lot of friends enlisted and they are enraged and don’t want him in. Such s nightmare. And I know many love to pull the “you drank game”. He knew I was depressed and suggested we go, it was someone I was friends with and trusted for several months and hung out with many times. I had no idea what they’d do just because they thought they could get away with it. Oh and my partner at the time, we lived together, been together over two years, and a million times more attractive, let’s see how that goes in court. I wish more than anything my partner hadn’t ever gone to third shift, it’s not his fault, but after that spending nights alone, I was terrified. Lights cut out once and PTSD episode triggered thinking he came back to hurt me again. It’s embarrassing people knowing that happened, and takes so much of your life anxious and always doing something for years even with so much proof just for any justice to happen.

People should not have to worry about aggression/rape when they party. Drinking/sleeping does NOT give you rights to another person's body. Sexual abuse is heinous and is never justified. BUT people are accountable for their own actions. Not the actions of others, but their own. People need to have better safety judgment. If both individuals are intoxicated, one may have thought he/she had consent and misread signals, and that is different that being malicious and having the intent to rape another person. ALL rapists, who DID mean to do this, deserve lifelong imprisonment, punishment, and eventually, death. The law needs to take intent into account. When the sexual crime is intentionally malicious, it warrants lifelong suffering. All that being said, advising people on safety precautions is not blaming. Its not intended to degrade anyone, but to help people stay safe.

There is no excuse for rape. Personally, I had an experience similar to this. I had been talking with an African American guy who seemed nice, he invited me to a house party. I was hesitant as I didn't know him very well. He told me that there would be at least 7 other women there, to make me feel more comfortable. I was still hesitant, then he pulled the race card, saying that I didn't want to go to his party because I would be the only "whitey" there. That wasn't why, at all. I had to drive an hour to get to the place where the party was. I was moderating my drinking, Every time my cup was half way, someone would pour more into it. At one point, I dumped what was in my cup down the drain, I was already too drunk to drive home. I talked to one of the women, there, asked her if I could go into a room that had a lock on the door, to sleep it off because I knew I was too drunk to drive. The woman was fine with it. She told me that there were 2 keys to the door, it locked from the inside. She said she would give me both keys if it wuld make me feel safe. I took the keys, went into the room laid down on the bed. The next thing I remembered was loud noises, cursing & laughing outside the door to the room. I felt safe with the door locked, I fell back asleep. When I woke up again, 5 guys from the party including the one I thought was decent, had broken the knob and lock to the door, had come into the room. I was still too drunk to fight them off, I just kept saying NO, STOP! They only laughed, taking turns at me. The wmen were standing in the doorway, watching. I begged them to help me, they just stood there, watching. The next day, I left while everyone else was sleeping. I located the closest police station, I walked in, told the person in the front that I had been gang raped, wanted to file a report. The cop told me to have a seat, that someone would talk with me, soon. I sat there, smelling like semen, sweat & alcohol. After 20 minutes I talked to the person at the front desk who told me I could sit down & shut up or leave. I was feeling worse as time passed by. After 1 hour of waiting, I couldn't stand my own stench. I left, drove the 1 hour drive home. I was so terrified when I didn't get my period for a few months. I thought about what I would do if I was pregnant. It would be financially difficult, yet, the child would be my child to love, to raise, to teach. When I had completely resigned myself to having a baby to take care of, I got my period 2 weeks later. Although it was stupid of me to drive an hour to the party, it was stupid to drink with people I didn't know. I felt that I had done the right things by not driving & by going in a room then locking the door. Nothing justifies what those men AND women did to me, what they had allowed to happen. To this day, I may have just 1 glass of wine in a restaurant, no more than that even if prodded to have "just one more". If I am going to drink any more than that, I do it in my home, alone. It's my respnsibility to keep myself safe, no one elses.

When I was a student at SDSU, Brookings, SD, I, a 5'11" blonde, went to a party at one of my high school buddies' off campus house. He was also attending college there. I was stone cold sober when I went through the master bedroom, where we had piled our coats, to get to the bathroom in there. When I came out there stood a HUGE SDSU football lineman. I told him the bathroom was his. He replied, "That's not what I want." He grabbed my biceps, pulling me to the bed where he had removed some of the coats. My military father taught me how to get away from a huge attacker, then punch HARD into the Adam's apple. I did that and he fell backwards onto the bed, unable to breath. I ran out of the room, and saw his teammates waiting. One of his fellow football players was on crutches because I had kicked his knee out when he was carrying a passed out friend of mine to his room to rape with a few of his buddies in tow. I know they sent the huge guy after me to get even. I told them to rush him to the hospital. The coach called me in the morning telling me they are going to have ME charged with assault! I coldly told him I was going to hang up and tell the "Brookings Register" that our head football coach says that we female students should accept being raped by his players, and, "What do you think all of our fathers will feel about THAT!?" I added cooly that all the military men in my family would not be happy. His player was in the hospital for 3 weeks with a crushed larynx and trachea. I also told the coach he better tell his players to behave or more of them will end up on the injured reserve list. I frequently say ALL women and girls should know such self defense moves, and not to trust ANY male completely.

I’m not sure if this is just a US thing (I’m Canadian), but it astounds me that colleges/universities have their own campus police, and basically use that to prevent victims reporting incidents to the ACTUAL police. If you ask me, that’s a huge part of the problem. If these rapes and assaults were reported to the actual police, and prosecuted, maybe they would happen less. From what I’ve heard, a lot of the rapes and assaults are serial attacks from the same people because perpetrators aren’t facing consequences. Institutions need to stop being allowed to get in the way…

That is why the have the campus police to silence the victims especially if it’s an athlete, they never report it to the actual police and they isolate the victim so she usually ends up,leaving the school. And the school never report the stats because the want ppl to attend. I remember when it happened to a friend of mine the campus police tried to force us to us to go there and I told her they are not the real police and we should go off campus and get real law enforcement involved. I was like we are not giving u any info and when the police comes to see u will get a copy of their official report. They tried to do all kinds of stuff. But I told them my dad was in the FBI and if they tried to stop me they would see how that would play out, wasn’t true was my cousin. But they backed off really quickly. She ended up,dropping out for about 5 yrs, then finished at another school.

If you treat children like demigods just because they're good at sports, you can't expect them not to develop behavioral issues. College is meant to be about academic achievement. Stop giving kids an easy ride through high-school, a free ticket to college, and a bloated sense of self-importance. They might actually start to develop empathy, a sense of responsibility, and a conscience.

@@maysal2801 They have to say "alleged" for legal reasons. The reason is that if they don't preface the claim with that word, and it turns out that the allegation is a hoax, the defendant has grounds to sue for slander. Even if it was unintended, it biases the audience against the accused person's reputation. By saying "alleged", you are prefacing the sentence with a term whose full meaning is "according to the allegation".

I've been assaulted several times and never went to the police because my life has always been in pieces and I didnt want it torn apart on the stand. The first time was when I was REALLY young, underage (he was underage, too, but I was pre pubescent and he was a teenager). I think the trauma from that causes behaviors that make it repeat over and over. Like I have PTSD and will completely shut down if I don't straight up attack people for touching me.

Why is the reporter asking the typical victim blaming questions? Was she drunk? Why didn't she fight him off? Did they think she was consenting? These questions are irrelevant and asking them perpetuates the notion that these women are in part responsible for the crimes committed upon them. Disgraceful, unprofessional, harmful reporting.

+xoxBelllaDonnaxox They are relevant moron... if a girl and a guy are drunk, and she consents because her judgment is impaired... that absolutely changes everything. That means, the guy thought he had permission. He remembers making-out with her, and she denies it on the basis of not remembering... so she doesn't remember if she did or did not willingly make-out with him, or if she did or did not give signals that could be misinterpreted as consent... especially to someone who is also impaired. There is a *_HUGE_* difference if there was no malicious intent... it is the difference between a mistake... a misunderstanding... and a person that is evil. Furthermore... asking the question is seeking the *_truth_*... there are plenty of cases where a man is intentionally falsely accused of rape... that is why we don't presume guilt over innocence. There are stories of girls being drunk and having consensual sex, and then regretting it, so they lie about what happened. There are stories where girls weren't drunk and still consented, but regretted it later, so they lie... There are stories about girls who've had sex with a boyfriend and didn't want her family to know about it, so accused another guy of rape to cover it up. There are stories of girls who accuse men of rape out of revenge... and use rape accusations as a weapon against men. etc. etc. etc.

***** If these men were on trial and this woman was testifying against them these questions would be relevant. The questions are irrelevant because these men have already confessed and plead guilty. This girl isn't giving evidence, there is no burden of proof. They have been convicted. Asking these questions at this point perpetuates the idea that the victim always somewhat at fault for the sexual assault because there was something they could have done to stop it. It is actually quite rare for victims to falsely accuse rape at 2-3 % according to studies. www.google.ie/#q=false+reports+of+rape

" Those are lies... they never went to trial, nor were convicted. "This girl isn't giving evidence, there is no burden of proof. " Of course she is... she is making an assertion... presenting her case... so is required to prove it to convince her audience. Just because she isn't doing that in court, does not mean the rules of logic and reasoning are just thrown out the window. She has a motive to convince... so it is her responsibility to present a valid case to those she is attempting to convince... and if she doesn't then she won't achieve her goal. Because rational people won't just take her word for it and presume guilt... that basis in the court system was founded on legitimate principles outside of court. "It is actually quite rare ..." I guess you ignored the 22% and 31%... and some even claim 40%... but either way... here is an article explaining why your figures are nonsense anyway. www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2014-09-19/how-many-rape-reports-are-false The point is, they happen, and there are false or mistaken accusations about pretty much any crime... that is why in a *_civilized_* society we don't presume guilt. "... for victims to falsely accuse rape ..." If the accusation is false... then they aren't victims... now are they? The victims are those that they accuse.

Ppl over here debating about alcohol meanwhile women in my country are getting raped sober and still being blamed bc they wore stuff like that or why did they sleep over at a party. The real issue here is victim blaming. Women will 100% be blamed for the rape on every scenario. Just last year a father withdrew his case about the rape of his 12 year old kid bc it was his brother who did that. The juridical system disgusts me. Most of the ppl responsible for the laws are men. It's a mentality at this point. I don't even go out to party with my girlfriends anymore bc I'm legit terrified

Alcohol is a huge issue in almost all these rapes, to say alcohol had no part in it is only ignorance. Yes, men need to be better men but drinking in excess is a not what a young women or any man should be doing. All kinds of bad things can go wrong. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Alcohol really isn't to blame though, you see it only lowers inhibitions. If a person rapes another while under the influence of alcohol, that means that person always had that inside them, the alcohol just made their conscience agree with their sadistic thoughts. If a person is abusive when they drink, then they are always abusive, the alcohol just makes it easy for them to do what they always thought about.

I don't think she was saying that at all. The girl was not to blame - period! However, if someone in the future could possible prevent their rape by being more in control of their body that would only be a good thing. I would go even further than HalfDozenFlowers to say that people should never drink let alone get drunk. Someone addicted to alcohol could have prevented their alcoholism by not taking a drink in the first place.

Arrowless Knee Alcoholism usually starts in puberty with those with the right biochemistry to become alcoholic. Excessive use causes brain damage, particularly the frontal lobe, which is the last part of the brain to develop. It's the seat of conscience, the thing that puts the brakes on the more primitive parts of the brain. When that is damaged, there is a consequent lack of self control, abusive behavior, etc. Any rehab center will tell you the same.
