    I have the the 2x12 stereo version and it sounds absolutely killer. The empower control is extremely helpful to adjust for a room on the fly. My old gripe is the thing is freakin heavy!

    Yeah. Frfr is a rabbit hole fo sho. The Friedman, xitone, mission ect. Are awesome for more of a traditional cab feel. I have a pair JBL eon 610s that sound really good. I also play bass with my ax8 and really like the Yamaha dxr 12's for both bass and guitar. All that said, once I switched to iems, I just use whatever the venue has for a little air. Great vid as always.

    Thanks for this great review, I am torn between a Gem1 or wait for the Kemper Kab(I have a kemper). Unfortunately with me whenever I get to this point of indecision which I call option paralysis, I usually buy nothing and move on.

    If you're on a budget, I'd consider one of the Atomic Reactor units. The 112 has 18 El84 watts and the ARFR-AC has 50 6L6 watts. Both can be gotten on eBay or Reverb for a very competitive price. I've had both and now have the ARFR-AC. Also, the Laney IRT-X is a good choice. It's also an "expansion" cab for a "normal" guitar amp and it's got a lot of features and 200 digital watts. I own one of these and would take it over any of the lower-priced powered cabs by EV, Altos, etc.

    Agree with everything you mentioned Leon. After I got my Axe-FX I used studio monitors, a Mackie PA, and then settled on the Gemini 2. Way more amp in the room than the others. Tight as hell in the bottom end. My monitors and PA were boomy sounding. And, yup, I use the empower when I crank the Gemini to dial down the high end sizzle - keeps it cab like. It's pretty heavy and my only wish is that they built handles on the side. Carrying this thing from the top handle is a BITCH. Otherwise this is a killer product and the Mission guys are always available to answer questions.

    when you mentioned the bass speaker (sorry new o the FRFR concept) but are you the guitar player using that as well or was that for the actual Bass player's speaker. Just would seemed like the argument for the Gemini alone weakens if you need a bass speaker as well when playing with a band. tell me I misunderstood.

I would love to see the specifics on how you use the Mesa 212 with the AX8, I forget that I should try turning off the cabinet modeling and use some of the guitar cabs I have collected. • @LeonTodd

    @LeonTodd

    6 жыл бұрын

    Having been lucky enough to play some venues that have insanely expensive and high spec FRFR wedges, there's definitely a difference but it manifests itself in an odd way; the better quality FRFR the more detail you hear, which is the opposite of what we want with a guitar rig (we usually equate good with compression, distortion and other tonal properties). It's a more honest representation of what you're putting in.

    @@jays4210 I've had the line 6 for a few weeks now and it's been holding up just fine and I've been playing loud with it, and I just use it FRFR I haven't tried the speaker sims in it, I just use the irs in the axefx3, and the line 6 cab is 500 watts and the Laney cabs are 200 each, the Laney cabs are louder I'm not sure if it's because it's two separate cabs or what. The line 6 cab has in the FRFR section a over all volume and I have it on 4 it goes from 0 to 6 and I keep up at band practice just fine and have a lot of headroom. Now the Laney's are bassy sounding but they have a high cut knob on it but you can add treble with it because in the middle it's flat so you can lower or add to it. Putting them all together sounds great, running the line 6 out of output 1 on the axe and running the Laney's out of output 2 and the sound is huge, but I just don't want to carry all that stuff anymore. Let me know if you need more info about them

    @@jays4210 I'm sure the company you buy from would send you just a speaker if something would happen, plus if you buy new then you have a warranty and then you can purchase extended warranty to. But you really have to be pumping the speakers to blow them, not all the time sometimes you can get a bad speaker I guess I've been lucky so far, and I have 2 4x12 Marshall cabs from the 80s and never had to change any speakers. I haven't tried the power amp and speakers yet but I do have a 20/20 mesa power amp and a 90/90 mesa power amp and 2 2x12 mesa cabs, I'm getting good sounds out of the line 6 cab.

    This is the ONLY one that delivers what you want-absolutely. ALL of the others are nowhere near this quality…don’t pretend - come on man😎. They are incredibly expensive and heavy. If you truly must have the best of the best, then use the Axe Fx III with 2 Gemini-2s in stereo. Once tweaked, it will kill all other rigs.

    Thanks very much for this video. I did wonder though: if you are getting odd tones and harmonics from normal PA speakers, doesn't this mean that you are likely to get the same odd tones through your band's PA when you play live? You won't hear them if you are using this Mission speaker to monitor yourself, but your audience will. Wouldn't it be better, then, to use normal PA speakers and get the sound right rather than use a monitor that sounds more like a guitar cab and thereby hides from you what you sound like to the audience?

    Allan Wilson Realizing this is replying to an older vid and post, I agree 100% and have been saying the same thing for years (I’m a 5yr Fractal user). Masking what your audience hears is a disservice (either live or recording). I create all my patches via a higher quality PA powered speaker such as QSC or JBL since this represents what most FOH systems are using (excluding dive-bars of course). At home I play through older Mackie HR824’s in studio. Creating balanced patches that sit well between these two setups allows for minimum adjustment by either FOH or desk engineer and covers all bases, with the end audience as priority...which they damn well should be. Regards.

    Most concerts you mic the guitar and run it through PA, so it depends if you prefer the sound of your cab mic'd (as in a modeller + FRFR) or the raw sound of your cab on stage. Very different experiences, but i don't miss a cab these days.
