As a Michigander - there is so much accuracy in this skit. My 5 year old loves playing on the top of snowplow mountains. I have received an automatic car starter as a present from a boyfriend before. The joke about the automatic car starter is so similar to how I knew things were getting serious between my husband and I when we were dating! MidwestNeighbour is on point with how you don't need a sled to go sledding (in Australia we call it "tobogganing"). As a kid, I well remember my first ever trip to "The Snow" (in Australia the entire ski region is referred to as The Snow, as in: "are you off to The Snow next weekend?"). We had no snow gear whatsoever. We were wearing plastic raincoats outdoors to keep ourselves dry as the snow fell. We used those same raincoats as sleds. What you do is , you sit down on the snow clutching each side of your raincoat up close to the front of your body ; so that the raincoat is tightly plastered against your rear. Lift your feet off ground knees to chest, keep a tight hold of that raincoat in both hands, and off you go! there is a lot of spinning around involved, which makes it even more fun.

Where did she get the "its called pop not soda" shirt? I need that in my life. (I'm from Michigan so I understand this all perfectly). It was 60 degrees here yesterday and my son is complaining about the fact we haven't had a lot of snow. He misses the parking lot snow mountains. One year, my daughter and son built a whole house in one of them. They made a slide, seats, etc. It was awesome.
On Ann Marie, I get chya! Missing the snow and cold weather (then alternatively wishing for sunshine and warm temps in October), that's our Midwest Right! ❄❄❄ Source: Born and raised in Illinois by the Mississippi river now transplanted to Northern Iowa
I'm originally for northern Iowa. I now live in Maryland near B'more and DC. We get snow - sometimes. But this year? We have season ski passes for an area about 90 minutes drive away. THIS year, unlike other years, they barely have enough FAKE snow to keep the resorts open. In fact, they are closed today because it's gotten too warm and the snow has all melted away. The season very likely could be OVER and it's mid-February. That is bonkers! And I miss REAL snow so much. I get giddy every time we have a snowfall.

Growing up in Northern Michigan and living in Tennessee I don’t miss the snow but I also get as excited as a little kid waiting for Santa when the forecast calls for snow. I feel this so much 😂 ❤. As long as I have my Vernor’s (because everyone in MI knows Vernor’s fixes everything) I’ll be okay. Besides if it gets too bad I can always go visit my family, get my snow fix in and then escape. I laughed so hard about the sleds. I think we have used every single one of those (including the couch pulled behind a truck senior year of high school) as sleds 😂
I grew up in the snowbelt in the 80s, and now that I've grown up and moved away I'm occasionally struck with a childhood wintertime memory, followed immediately by the realization that "wow, somebody totally could have died. Huh." Now that I type this, that could totally be a future video idea to mirror your own "life now vs life in the 80s" videos - life in the midwest in the 80s, starring your "neighbour". In high school we took trays from the cafeteria to sled down the giant hill behind the school. It was AWESOME. Our friends who went to college in Northa Dakota would sit on an old car hood, tie it to a car, and drive around on a solid frozen lake. I love the neighbor's shirt! It's pop, not soda!!!
In northern North Dakota we also had snirt in addition to fluffy snow and wet snow and ice and pogonip and all sorts of wintry stuff. The textbook definition of snirt does not include the joy of snow that falls brown, that is, true snirt. When the wind is strong enough to pick up dirt from the fields and the snow is too light, the snow and dirt mix before falling. Sometimes they even "enjoyed" snirt in town. And one day we had a mud storm when, yes, the rain mixed with dirt and fell as mud. Do I miss it? Not so much. But I just posted a pic of me enjoying a dish of ice cream outside in downtown Fargo when the high that January day in 2009 was -15 F (-26 C).
I know people that have used old car hoods to sled on. I used to take the inner tube that we pulled behind the boat and hook it to the tractor. I would pull my kids around the field, whipping the inner tube around and trying to fling them off. 🤣

We just got 6" of snow, like yesterday. Love it. And yes, I used cardboard on the local "suicide hill" as a kid. We used giant innertubes pulled behind the pick-up when my kids were little. When they got old enough they started skiing with their dad.
As a Canadian those words “I really miss the snow” have never, ever come out of my mouth, sadly. I wish I could say they would at some point, but there’s no where in Canada I could move, where SNOW doesn’t happen 🥶...I need to take more trips south 🏝 Also, we call Pop, Pop too. Does anybody still call it soda pop I wonder?🤔
Saw the short version in instagram, thought that was hilarious but the long version is sooo great. Love you guys can’t get enough.
I once saw someone from Minnesota say in a video "our six months of winter", and I was like, "Six months of what? How many months of winter??". There's a reason my northern European ancestors headed for the southern part of the New World, and I'm continuing that tradition. And I can't send snow anyway because we don't have any either. *High five*
Come to MN… you will not be missing snow right now. We just got rain that froze, then hail and then 8 inches. This has been such a loooooong winter. Last year around Easter the yard was green and my kids were hunting Easter eggs 😂 Also, the list of types of sleds cracked me up! I’ve definitely done most of those! Gotta love the plastic roll up sleds too! 😂
You doubt the ingenuity of a midwesterner in winter? I had a friend in high school that took a taco bell booth home when they renovated. The same day, his brother bought some skis from a resale shop. They get home and see what the other has. The next day was the best snow day. Sledding down the hole 3 fairway on a taco bell booth. And no one got hurt (terribly).
Totally accurate. I've used cafereria trays and trash bags for sledding. 😄
I am from Maine and we had a sad winter too but ya we are now having a very pleasant day. It is so warm out!! It is 50 degrees!!! But I also love the snow we had
This was me in Michigan, being a Minnesotan. It was in the 40's and someone said it was freezing and I said, "Literally not freezing." Imo 45 is only cold May through September (doesn't get down to 45 in June-August so even 50's feels chilly) or when it's raining. But in the middle of winter 35 feels warm to Minnesotans. Also I saw someone skiing down the road after a fresh snow in Minneapolis once, and I've swept off or shoveled off my car before.
We have a beautiful fresh snowfall right now. Right from the start my heart was breaking for the poor neighbors! How do they even know what month it is???
OMG! Finally a name for the malaise from which I have suffered every winter here in Portland, OR as the rain and darkness consumes my life. Moved here from NY 30 years ago. I now know I am a chronic SNAD sufferer. Brilliant. Thank you Marie! And I feel your pain. ✨💖✨
I’m with Steve. My snowblower’s been waiting far too long, and all my neighbors’ driveways have been bare most of the winter. It’s been far too mild. 🤣
The day you published this, I snow blowed my driveway three times for the 8" of snow we got. I spent most of a 20-year military career south of I-40, I don't miss the south at all. The nice thing about Iowa is that we get four distinct seasons. So, right about the time you get sick of snow, it's spring.

As a midwesterner it has been oddly non-snowy. I will admit, I kind of miss the snow. Not the ice and hazardous driving but the snow in general….it is kinda pretty especially when it’s the pure white kind that looks like something out of a movie.

I grew up with season-long snowpack most years here in SW Michigan. It's weird to me that the last several years have been more green (well, brown) than white.
I want that “it’s called pop not soda” T-shirt. I’m from Iowa but lived in Colorado for a few years and everyone laughed at me for calling it “pop”. 😅
I love the idea of "SNAD". I'm in Canada, and normally my great lake freezes over every winter and spending time hiking/skating/sitting far out on the ice flats is one of the highlights of my whole year, but this year it hasn't frozen over at all! I'm very sad ❤🩹 The rest of winter is normally just a build-up to being able to go out on the ice 😭❄⛄ (We've had lots of snow of course, it just keeps melting after a few days.)
I'm with the Midwest neighbor on this one. Not so much snow, but I missed having seasons when I lived in the South. Moved back west, and I'm a happy camper again
I'm here in Chicago, and our winter has been so warm and lacking in snow that we never even had to break out any of our parking space dibs items (grand old Chicago tradition of putting random items in your parking space after you dig it out to make sure no one takes your spot).
i LOVE neighbor! we too in the Bay State (Mass) are missing the snow. its not snow this years, its the COLD that we are facing!
It’s been a weird winter up in CT this year. It snowed only twice just about an inch each time and melted the next day. It’s been 40-50s degrees mostly. Insane to say that I miss the snow

Didn't you just get hit with a serious drop in temps?
We're from Alberta Canada, but right now we're living in NJ, about an hour from central park... I don't miss the snow or the -40°weather, but the kids have definitely said they miss the snow this year! I for one have had enough snow to last multiple lifetimes. This "Winter" has been GLORIOUS!
