Missing Rings: Denny Hamlin 2023

Спорт

Denny Hamlin just may end up being the best driver in NASCAR history to never win a NASCAR Cup Series championship. His numbers are easily first ballot Hall of Fame worthy and he's won multiple Daytona 500s in this time as well. But in this time he has accrued more missing rings than just about any other driver and has now been put fully into the conversation for this title with Mark Martin. So today we look back at the 35 races that Hamlin has completed. This is missing rings: Denny Hamlin 2023.

OK, we can arm chair quarterback all day, but I certainly wouldn't be too fussed to finish my career with 50+ wins and no Cup. I seems ultimately Denny puts on a face that he feels the same. Despite the $$ that comes with the championship in this format, it just doesnt hold the weight that it used to, to pretty much anyone.

I think when we look back on Denny's career, we'll see a few things. Firstly, he's extremely talented. Love him or hate him, you can't deny that he's one of the best to ever do it. Secondly, he has a way of putting himself in the right place at the right time to be in the running. He and his crew chief know how to make hay while the sun shines, and they excel at taking advantage of key opportunities. And thirdly, he's shot himself in the foot so many times, it's a wonder he still has toes. As good as he and Chris are at pouncing on opportunities, he has a near-supernatural talent for finding ways to screw himself over. Would he have needed to win at Martinsville if he didn't get that penalty earlier in the year? Would his power steering have gone out at Vegas if he didn't try to beat the side off of Blaney's car? Maybe, maybe not, but he certainly didn't do himself any favors. Every year, it's the same story. He makes little, stupid mistakes that come back to bite him in the ass when it really matters. No one who's that good comes that close so many times without making their own bad luck.

It takes no talent to wreck others and to whine when you are raced. He is a jerk. Dale Sr was someone who I didn't like but he raced like a man - he raced you hard and you could race him hard. Denny is such a child that when you race him, he gets offended that you would have the audacity to race him. He is getting his karma payback. Low rent man driving for a brand that cheated when it first got into NASCAR.

Hamlin has nothing to be ashamed of. Harvick had that lone title in 2014, but never won one after that, coming close several times. Winning a title is so rare that there are only two active drivers with multiple rings. Denny is a first ballot hall of famer, great career with many crown jewels.

This is why people genuinely just don't like that guy. When Kyle Busch was the popular villain.. he was still a 1.. and eventually 2 time champion. He had achieved the greatest accomplishment in Nascar. And really, he wasn't hypocritically picking at people the whole time. He would definitely talk some shit, but at least most of it was true. And on the flipside, this is why people love Larson. Almost every snippet of the final laps in this video, Larson is up front. And if Larson went to the back, it was because Denny drove disrespectfully (the irony). And even after all this, Larson kept a smile on his face and didn't retaliate. Even at Martinsville, Larson could've used Denny up and locked his teammate into the round of 4- but he didn't. And now, you have zero (larson) retaliations, zero tangible reasons to dislike Larson, 2 HMS drivers in the round of 4, and Hamlin fans already saying "Next year will be our year".

Denny would be in and this video wouldn’t exist if Hedrick hadn’t bribed the appeal team earlier in the season, and those 15 playoff points would have been taken away from byron

I don't care how much backlash I'll get for saying this, but I'm saying it anyway. Denny's elimination was 100% deserved, and he's a hypocritical joke who will never EVER win a championship. Why? His whole thing at Bristol about beating everyone's favorites did nothing to help his reputation. All it did was put a big target on his back bumper, as well as a post-it note that says something along the lines of "wreck me."

As a teen growing up and seeing Denny start in the sprint cup way back, there was a time where I thought he was at least an okay guy and would’ve considered rooting for him. More so over the last 6-8 years I’m glad I never really did, his attitude has declined what seems like every season as of late. If he gets a championship good for him but I could care less if he does, he is polarizing with his talent and what he can bring to the table when things don’t go wrong.
