It’s easy to understand how someone wouldn’t want to let the public know that their family member has died in a way that doesn’t make them look in a way they want their family want them remembered. My brother died because of overdose and we didn’t want to let that information out at first. I know a lot of people who died the same way in 2020 dude to fentanyl and their families told everyone it was covid because they didn’t want them known as an addict or something or another. And these are the deaths that happened in the city.

Former vol. Search and Rescue team member. It does not at all surprise me that remains are not found. You can be standing literally ten feet from someone in the spring and summer and never see them. Vegetation is damned near impossible to see through for more than a foot or three and if you're not standing right on top of a body, you can walk right by it and never see it.

I have 2 mates who work with the police. One is a fine guy, who just does admin paperwork. He has told us about the corrupt people he knows of. One time in the pub we got speaking to these older gentlemen and when he said he just started working for the police one of them asked if he was in "the secret police", his words not mine. The other has been there for 5 months as an actual street cop. He has already told me multiple stories that make him sound like a bully/ corrupt. When I say this he defends himself by saying he didn't break any rules or code. Yeah, it's designed that way.

Gim and the lore lodge are pretty good at providing reasonable alternatives. It's very annoying that people give them flak for looking at reasonable non supernatural possibilities. You would think the focus should be on the people and paying the situation proper respect.

I camped alone at former WW2 German POW camps and Japanese internment camps in national forests. I camped alone in Mississippi and Florida national forests where I visited rural crossroads at midnight. I have stayed alone at the oldest graveyards in America. I have spent months camping alone in national forests all across the country, deliberately tempting fate and supernatural forces. Here is a list of dangers I faced in order of severity; Cops / rangers, criminals, locals, homeless people, weather, wildlife. Notice, the top four slots are filled by malicious humans. The fifth slot is occupied by something completely indifferent. The sixth slot is filled by a curious cougar and some rutting deer. I was shot at by locals, chased out of town by good ole boys with badges, threatened by illegal foresters and poachers, and robbed by the homeless but Chupacabra and sasquatch apparently found me unappetizing. Potential alien abductors judged there was nothing to be learned from probing me. Apparently, Satan values my soul not at all (or already has it, who can tell?). No ghosts anywhere, wicked humans everywhere, you be the judge.

I was raised inside what some people call the Bridgewater Triangle. My youth predates the internet and cable television, so I spent the majority of my time in the woods. I never saw anything I would describe as supernatural. Does that disprove the Bridgewater Triangle theory? No. Perhaps I am just not sensitive enough, perhaps I am a demon so ferocious the other supernatural forces feared me, who can say? All I can do is share my experiences. Thanks for your feedback.

Few years back I came across Missing 411 and started watching Paulides channel, it didn’t last long! He came across as a very paranoid individual who seemed to claim some ownership over the missing person cases he covered. Also the data points he suggested seemed really tenuous and he seemed to completely ignore obvious explanations (e.g Bobby Bizup and the Catholic priest). His constant complaints of other creators using his research has backfired on him, not only did he criticise the very popular Mr Ballen, but other channels started to do their own research, which turned out to be more detailed and accurate than what Paulides had presented. Channels like Missing Enigma, Zealous Beast and Lore Lodge presented much more logical arguments, based on cited sources and the 411 phenomenon seems to fall apart. Sorry this is a bit of an essay, but I feel quite strongly about this sensationalism of missing person/cold cases, Paulides is just a woo-woo, tragedy pimp.

Even in the city, you're part of the food chain, it's just easier to pretend you're not part of it while in the city, and your position in the food chain shifts in dramatic ways when you step out of the city. I don't worry too much about living in a rural area - I've lived there most of my life and have gotten used to my position in the food chain there! But I can definitely say that I was acutely aware that I was part of the food chain the moment I moved to a larger urban area, working at a job that had me going home late at night, and sometimes walking through some rough areas: there are predators everywhere in this world, and the city is full of predators who would absolutely eat you alive - in a heartbeat, or really slowly and painfully - if they could find a way to make a buck or have a little fun doing so. In many ways, those national parks might even be safer, from a certain point of view, but you're on your own out there in a way that you certainly aren't in a city, and there are far, far fewer witnesses in those woods, far fewer rules, and law enforcement is a long, long way away. I guess it's a "choose your poison" kinda thing... I have a feeling there are all sorts of mysterious disappearances in cities that nobody really pays attention to, in much the same way that city newspapers don't really report on as many crimes as their rural counterparts: it's normalized in cities, the evidence turns up more quickly with bigger budgets and more witnesses and foot traffic around the crime scenes, and the answers are a little easier to point to: probably murders, runaways, and other mundane causes that are just everyday life in the city to the point that it's just not that interesting anymore. The woods aren't a whole lot different, except in the matter of population density, terrain, and the amount of time and manpower that can be dedicated to high-tech professional law enforcement busy-bodying in the lives of the population until crimes are solved.

Cops might be sensitive to a family's feelings, but they don't let those feelings stop them from getting information. I knew right then that something else was going on. Mountain lions. So many stories I hear of people going missing in the national parks sound like cougar attacks. Oh? Old man looking weak and vulnerable alone on a hike? Yoink! Sneaky cat kills prey and carries them far away to eat. Good hunters don’t want to be seen.

You know how you can outmaneuver that feeling of not wanting to stare at the crack? If you remind yourself every day how terrible humans can be, when you never allow this cozy "I am fine and nothing will ever happen to me" thought to take root, when you remind yourself that death is real and might happen to you every day - then your eyes are wide open, and you never fall victim to the "I rather see everything else" behaviour you mentioned.

One thing that always drives me up yhe wall is the argument: "They were an experienced/expert outdoorsman/hunter/tracker." Yeah, so what? That doesn't make them _immune_ to: disorientation, equipment failure, accidents, animal attacks, surprise weather changes, sudden onset of illness, underestimating the amount of water needed or just simply messing up. In fact, some might suggest that their status as 'experts', could contribute to an inflated sense of security that may have played a part in their demise. I have known both hunters and hikers that have refused to listen and been argumentative only to be proven wrong by reality. Just because you've done something for a long time dosnt make you infallible- nature don't give a crap about your 'achievements'.

Likewise, they often go on about the expertise of the search teams, so how is it possible they didn't find the missing person, when their remains were found 10 years later right in the middle of the search area etc. Yet how many times have you lost your keys in your house, searching every room to then find them sitting on the bedside table you checked three times already? I guess bigfoot could of come in to you house, stole your keys, then returned them when they had finished.

I remember when I used to listen to David Paulides a lot in the past. One of the things that made me scratch my head was his reasoning for why didn't make his books available in digital form for download. His excuses make him sound like an old boomer that doesn't get how we do things today but I think it's more about him not wanting people to potentially be able to pirate the stuff for free. If you have to buy his book in physical form then you can't downloaded for free off some sketchy website. If it was about him getting the message out, he would have it in digital form available for download even if it was for purchase. I don't know if that's changed since the last time I listened to him but I found his reasoning at the time to be fairly suspicious and disingenuous. Plus, his need to make everything sound vaguely supernatural is cringeworthy in some cases. I find cases he talks about interesting but I also find a lot of it dubious at best.

I am so glad to finally see a big youtube channel tackle this guy. I read the first two missing 411 books and I came out thinking Paulides was a BS artist. He uses hand picked facts to lead people where he wants to go. Like you said, some of the stuff he says I found insulting to my intelligence. At best I found it irrelative. I concluded he is just another grifter playing on low IQ people, or people so emotionally invested in the supernatural they make themselves believe. Its sad, but nothing new. Don't let him stop you, people need to know what he's doing.

I was a park ranger in Alaska for nearly a decade (though this was over 30 years ago now). I grew up in central Alaska and spent a lot of time backpacking, hunting, fishing and rafting around the area. When someone went missing out on a trail or trip we were always called in and I was always the poor sap who was given a radio and sent way out in the back country to look for these people. Normally they were found quickly and near where they went missing. I was never the person to find them, I was always sent way too far out. Occasionally we didn't find them, people drastically underestimate how easy it is to get lost once you are just a little ways away from civilization. I had experience in the area and I still had to be extremely careful that we didn't get lost as well.

I admit I was told about David early in his foray into the missing 411. He was the first I had heard really cover such things, but I like the way others like Missing Enigma cover and deliver the cases much better. I was/am amazed by some of the scenarios, i.e. a child found tucked in a crevasse in a place where climbing equipment was needed to reach.. had no shoes on but no scratches on feet? Without looking at the evidence and testemonies of S&R for yourself it's hard to say how much of a spin ANYONE puts on the case to make it fit what they think. There are certainly some astonishing, baffling and heartbreaking scenarios. That much is no lie and we likely will never know what happened in most of the strangest cases. I frequent the deep outdoors, my family always has since I was very young. I keep my wits about me and consider myself quite experienced but never think I am safe because I can't prepare for everything Nature may throw at me. At the same time that's part of the thrill, either way it's something always on my mind when in the field.. "how long would it take for me to be found here if something happened?" I always make sure there's people who know where I will be, keep multiple forms of ID in my vehicle, in my pack, on my person and at camp so I can be IDed or let S&R know they are in the right area. I carry a personal beacon, wear bright colors and do many other things to help keep myself safe as much as possible. I've never had a situation yet, but have had some strange experiences. Nothing big, but notably odd. Still, I'd rather have the stuff in place and not need it than not have in an emergency. I look forward to you covering some cases as I very much enjoy your content. ❤ Blessings to the families of the unfortunate souls, may they one day find the closure they long for.

How credible is David Paulides ? An exercise in recognizing credential mongering in the Cryptozoological & Fortean fields Introduction: In the field of Cryptozoology & Fortean thought,PHDs & doctorates ,as well as carriers of authority ( police work , forensics,so on) are constantly cited as evidence that " lead proponents" are a credible authority. In SOME cases this is indeed true; Meldrum , Krantz,Naish& Napier all where/ are authorities in relevant fields_ in other cases the exact opposite is true: Either complete frauds( Max Hawthorne,Melba Ketchum, Jonathan Whitcomb) or frequently boasting " Dr" & " impressive sounding titles" while omitting the fact that thier doctorate is in fields that are irrelevant ( Roy Mackal, Richard Greenwell)_ all this being classic credential mongering ( something I've discussed time, and time again). As an exercise in spotting credential mongering, let's turn our sights on missing 411 propogator & bigfoot enthusiast David Paulides. David Paulides has repeatedly made the claim that he was quote " a detective of twenty years",as proof of his authority. A look into his background however, shows otherwise: Paulides served 16 years as a traffic police officer, before resigning from the force in disgrace after commiting fraud . This is public record: As documented by Mercury News staff writer Sandra Gonzales ,in "S.J. Officer Accused of False Solicitation Autographs: A Force Veteran Allegedly Used City Stationary to Ask For Memorabilia ", published December " When a veteran San Jose police officer began soliciting celebrity Autographs on city stationary ,he wound up with more than just a friendly letter from singer Lionel Richie to hang on his wall. He also got an arrest warrant last week charging him with a misdemeanor count of falsely soliciting for charity_ a crime for which he could face a year in jail . Officer David Paul Paulides ,40, aroused suspicions after he was seen using city stationary on the department's computer printers . Paulides also sent and received large quantities of unofficial mail at the department , police reports say . None of those activities fell within his duties as a court liaison officer , prompting an internal investigation that begun last September. "He's an autograph hound", said assistant district attorney Karyn Sinunu ,who filed the complaint last week in Municipal court. " It was a stupid thing to do _ to spend your time enhancing your personal collection when tax payers are paying for you to work". Suspicions where hightened when the police department received a phone call from a Los Angeles publicist asking to speak with Paulides about the " Police hall of Fame", and a letter from the Lionel Richie Fan Club which enclosed an autographed compact disk from the singer. As it turned out, Paulides had Solicitated autographs from such people as newswoman Diane Sawyer , astronaut Mae Jemison, model Carol Alt, exercise guru Jack La Lanne and Ivana Trump_ allegedly by falsely claiming he was working on a City project. In the letter to Trump ,for example , Paulides wrote : " You are a great role model for young women ... I've been given the task by my city to develop a display for our lobby of successful businesswomen ...we are respectfully requesting an autographed photo for our display... Your success on a professional as well as personal level make you a superior businesswomen and mother. Several of the celebrities have returned autographed photographs of themselves. Paulides attorney Daniel Jensen claims it was an unfortunate misunderstanding . " He feels badly and is embarrassed" ,Jensen said. Jensen said that the officer was gathering the photographs to serve as teaching aids for a class he had taught and that Paulides had envisioned hanging the pictures in the department's lobby. "They were to be inspirational examples of people who've done very well ", Jensen said. Authorities, however ,say there was no authorized " Hall of Fame" being developed for any lobby . They could find nothing Paulides was associated with in an official capacity that would give him the authority to seek autographs on the department's behalf. Paulides was one of several instructors who taught a city_ sponsored organizational development class, but he had not taught the course since March. Police spokesman Officer Louis Quezeda said Paulides is on vacation. Quezeda could not say what sort of job action the department might take against Paulides. Jensen, however , said possible repercussions range from disciplinary action to termination from the department where Paulides has worked since 1980. Paulides surrendered to authorities last week and was released. He is expected to arraigned next month in Municipal court ".

Occam’s Razor forces you to summarize that if you hear hoofprints and you’re in the US or Canada, think horses, not zebras. I’ve always had suspicions about David. You have to wonder at a point whether he presents the details in a way to make it seem more mysterious than it really is. Why? Because it sells more books if the story seems more mysterious, out of the ordinary, or paranormal. It didn’t take long to realize that David himself is a believer in the supernatural. He tries to hide that fact in his books by not presenting any explanation or even theory as to what happened. I read many things about David that prove that he does believe that paranormal things are at the bottom of this well, but many of the actually stories have more mundane answers suggested, but that doesn’t sell books. Based on the treatment you have received from David or his handlers would certainly suggest to me that he is all about copyrights, control and money. He sounds like sort of a prick actually. There is no way that any money you may have made based on use of his cover art could outweigh the amount of book sales he gets from such exposure. Everyone has the rights to protect their IP, but this seems a bit extreme. Or he has an axe to grind and with you being a skeptic, like myself, I can imagine he has a lot of issues with your videos. Unless you’re going to strap on a tin foil hat and go full on Stanton Friedman, you’re probably no friend to David. He wants to keep his readers ignorant and buying every Bigfoot dimension traveler stories as he can pitch. I think that behind the professional lawman image he portrays in his Missing 411 books, he’s really a bit batshit crazy behind the scenes and so are many of his followers and he’d like to keep them that way. You ask too many serious questions and don’t just grasp at the craziest paranormal suggestion at every missing person. Like me, you’re looking for the truth, not what you want to believe and those are the kind of people that scare David. Statistically speaking, the number of missing persons in National Parks are in line with those missing people in cities and rural areas. The numbers aren’t as shockingly high as David wants people to believe. He presents his evidence through the lens of the paranormal by making them more mysterious than they really are.
