Miss World 2013 Megan Young Accused of Sabotaging Botswana's Rep After Fixing Her Hair
The 71st Miss World Coronation Night took place in Mumbai, India. During the event, Megan Young, the winner of Miss World 2013, touched the hair of Miss Botswana, which sparked criticism from some people in Botswana.
They believed that Megan's actions brought bad luck and affected Miss Botswana's chances of winning the crown.
However, it's important to understand that different cultures have different beliefs and superstitions. While there is no specific belief in Botswana about hair touching, it is generally considered disrespectful in many cultures.
Megan, being a Filipina, may not have been aware of the cultural sensitivity surrounding hair touching in Botswana. It's crucial to respect and understand each other's cultural differences rather than jumping to conclusions.

many filipinas being touchy to other girls means affections. not only to fix the hair but also to remove nervousness of the one whose hair being touch. for us it's a sign saying "your safe, your loved and be confident". megan young was clearly unaware that it was different for other countries. you can even notice how light megan young's touch is. i think miss botswana can even educate miss megan regarding the touching issue if she really mind it. the miss Botswana didn't even flinch or back off when Megan touched her hair line. and I don't really think hair is an issue for her to not win the crown. mirriam quiambao slipped on stage but still managed to be 1st runner up. not trying to say megan was not overstepping but to put so much hate to this scene, you are the same or maybe worse because clearly Megan didn't have a negative intention in what her did but you, you clearly do trying to harass her.

nothing wrong because in our culture, it's not but in Botswana, it is.
Fb reels got me searching for this video. And what I see from what Megan Young did is an initial reaction of someone liking and admiring another woman's beauty and I think she's also rooting for Ms Botswana. When someone older or in seniority with someone else especially with women, and they have a liking towards another women especially younger than them, it's in their instinct/tendency to do what Megan did to Ms Botswana. Apply some Psychology people. Megan could have found her so beautiful and cute at the same time, for a moment there she forgot they're on stage. You could see how Megan retracted her hand after doing so. Making an issue out of something so trivial. 🙄
Ridiculous, it was just a harmless kind gesture, I don't see the big deal, people are just trying to get attention because their favorite didn't win

Those who have not been helped in the Philippines, those who participate in the contest are treated like foreigners
Megan young does not have to do that. Like Fixing hair. Annoying. she only has ONE job that night and she has failed to do it.
Sometimes, good intention isn't that good at all. Therefor, so be it. Let it be and move on.
I did not see anything wrong with that...people just making it a big deal... although if it their culture..we have to respect it...
Its her answer to the Q n A and the way she carry herself makes a candidate a winner..
Filipinos are claiming it's okay for Megan to touch Miss Botswana's hair because they do this to each other in their country. This is the finals of Miss World's being shown around the world so it's a different environment than just fixing your friend's hair. I noticed in the video that Megan didn't ask for Miss Bostwana's permission to fix her hair. I wouldn't want a stranger to fix my hair especially in front of thousands in the audience. This might have thrown off her focus also. I've never seen anything like this in all the years I've watched pageants. Remember guy's its in a woman's nature to be caring and nurturing this is very common all over the world. The people who are bashing her it's like they weren't born with a mother for example there is always a time in your life when your hair or looks was so messy and your mother comes to you and just fixes it without your permission. Thats what we call a caring person.
I don’t see anything wrong in Megan fixing miss Botswana’s hair, she just tried to make miss Botswana looks better and not messy. If she is racist, she wouldn’t have touch miss Botswana’s hair or her arm. Megan was very caring.
Hair is definitely a subject that caused both joy and insecurity, mostly the latter in most African women. That's a fact. If it so happened that Miss Botswana won the title, regardless if Megan touched her wig or not, it wouldn't be an issue, but she lost the competition, and that's how the hair gesture became a good excuse to bear the brunt aka sour graping. 😊
