Miss New York couldn't get her thoughts together in the question. She rambled on. Virginia got an easy question but she articulated it perfectly. North Carolina was charming and, unlike today, they did not need cosmetic surgery. Louisiana contradicted herself in her answer and didn't articulate it as well as she could have. South Carolina was ok but seemed a little unsure of herself. Texas' answer was not convincing enough and she didn't defend her position well. They're not telling the truth when they say the audience can't see the scores. You can tell by the whoops and hollers that The girls with a he highest scores received that the audience could see the monitors that showed the scores.

That is where the format of having different questions has many disadvantages. Some questions have more difficulty and weight than others. The judges must take that into consideration, but anyways it shouldn't just be the answer but overall impression of the candidate. The host even mentions this. Miss NY (the only non-southerner) had a difficult question on the spot and for having less than one minute to answer, but she still did fine. Texas also had a difficult and not typical question but she did well for what she had to work with. South Carolina's question wasn't so easy but not most difficult, but given the high level of answers, she barely got through this round. The judges liked her overall impression.
