It's not all about politics and promotion. It's about Lor and her skills and dedication. In Laos there are more than 80 ethnicities and everyone can become someone but it can be hard, it's a 3rd world country, just like in USA. If some group Hmong Americans keep saying Hmong have no country then that's a f up mentality, brain washed by Vang Pao thinking. The the hidden truth is that there were more Hmongs fighting against the USA during the war just like those 80 plus ethnicities, pro US and pro communist. But most just move on vs dwelling to the past like alot of Hmong US

In the Lao constitution, all of the various groups are Lao. It seems that most people in other countries just never knew that. I had a conversation with an older Lao couple. They were Hmongs and really nice.

@@laotech9299 There are Hmong people not just from Laos. They are also from China, Vietnam, and Thailand. Same with Mien people aswell. Yes if they are from Laos they can claim that they have Lao nationality but they shouldn't erase that they are also ethnically Hmong. Same thing with being in America my nationality is American and my ethnicity is Mien. Hmong people also have a different culture and language than Lao.

@@Dtzeo503 it’s not about claiming, since no one has to speak the main language as it is spoken now in Laos just like you don’t even have to speak English in the U.S. People have different cultures in any country. Also, please keep in mind that we never had countries at the very beginning. Countries were created later on. Laos is a country in southeast Asia. Before Laos, what did we have? Most of those cultures had not yet existed in southeast Asia until now regarding Laos.

My parents are proud Mien people from Laos they never say that they're Lao. I grew up learning about our native Mien culture. I have no knowledge of or connection to Lao culture whatsoever. My parents never found any reason to because that's not my culture. Btw i understand where you're coming from but I think also that news channel is from Minnesota which has a big Hmong community so they would recognize that Payengxa Lor is a Hmong person.

We were never accepted like that until recently. You Must be blind to history if u think lao ppl welcomed hmong ppl with open arms and treated them the same. You need to learn history. Hmong are not Lao period. Hmong is ethnically culturally and genetically unique from Lao like any other ethnicity. Just because a population of Hmong lives in Laos does not equate them being Lao. And Lao Family is a nonprofit founded in the early 80s by recently resettled Hmong immigrants as Hmong was practically unknown at the time in America thus the founders likely decided on the Lao name on the basis of global recognition despite mainly serving the Hmong community at large even to this day.

Nawadays, these things are just a small outdated annual event for 3rd world countries only, probablry not even an interesting event for the most of young girls who trying to be popular every day in the world anymore. World people have already realized that beauty contest things were just sweet short illusion for 3rd world people or the things that just some very old boring free cable TV shows for your grandparents usually watching on their bed at late night. Social Media following doesn't measure the success of a person. Social Media is a big problem of what's wrong with today's society. Kid's have the attention span of a goldfish and aren't aware of what's going on anymore because there heads are constantly down face glued to a phone or tablet. Hmong Teenage girls dress so indecent and the Hmong boys referring to each other with the N word all because of what they see on Social Media. Social Media can be good if used for good purposes, but spending 6-7-8 hours a day on your mobile device scrolling up and down Facebook and Instagram feed is not healthy. Pick up an instrument, go outside play a sport, join a club at school invest time into your hobbies and someday a "real" star will be born.

Sick and tired of hearing the "Mung" mispronunciation. Sadly even the majority of US Hmong say "Mung" too. The closest English phonetic is "moan" but with a soft "g" ending sound versus "n". Definitely not "mung".
