And both the time sushmita won in final round otherwise she was never a top scorer in any of previous round I think she is the only one who won both the title without top score in any preliminary round also without won any subtitle

I'm sorry I forgot her name, but she was one of the best translators Miss Universe ever had. In fact, that group she was in - her and the two men (the latino man from America, the other an Italian who stated the question to Miss Slovak Rep.) was the great group of MU translators. She stopped working with MU, I believe the latino man from America was still with MU in recent years.

Please note that Carolina Gomez lived in the United States as an exchange student for a few years as a child. She studied her English there. But she is Colombian through and through.

The time when Philippines is still not a threat. 😂😂 I would like to say, they're all intelligent and genuine.

Charlene represented the Philippines really well. She's gorgeous spontaneous and witty. And it was such heartfelt motion when you saw a proud mom amongst the crowd with a caption above her head- "that's my grown up little angel up there !!!"

The Spanish translator is what you call a translator and she didn't interrupt her unlike today translators always interrupting the contestants. Non stop from Miss Venezuela and the translator's really good.

​@@aprealstatetraveletc.. The translation doesn't matter. The judges base their impression by beauty poise charm and that spark only a miss universe has. She has to be charismatic and confident regardless of the language she speak

Sushmita ( India )was the best answer, to get achievement money and carry out to the adventure , thinking in the children as an adventure in itself , she shown , how inteligent could be at the moment of give an answer

Sushmita adopted 2 children and she is still single!

Miss Colombia is the actress in Finding Rodrigo.

Little surprise Sushmita went on to do what she said here...She is involved in the cause even today

Colombia, Expectacular.

The Spanish translator was excellent ! Most Spanish translators in pageants are terrible. Miss Colombia spoke perfect English, i guess she lives in US but of Colombian background

it depends on public votes usually I think Columbia and India are both winners

That Zapata judge always gave less scores to sushmita compared to other judges

Sush won Miss India barely ahead from top favorite Aishwarya Rai. She later lost her passport and the organizers decided to send Aishwarya in miss universe (Sushmita can still compete in Miss world in November by securing another passport). However Sushmita fought her right and said she won't compete in another contest other than Miss universe. And the rest is history...both Sushmita and Aishwarya won that Year in 1994

I am very impressed with the lady Spanish translator...wow!...Venezuela's answer was spot on...India ---deep ....Colombia--- reality

Based on the answer, Miss USA answered concretely and specifically. If only judges gave her a higher score then she could make it to top three and even win! Fate is not always kind to some people!!!

If one judge didn't give score it wouldn't be counted, the rest of the scores are averaged anyway

la jurado que le formulo la pregunta a la colombiana la mira con odio parerece que se hubiera puesto deacuerdo con la Grudt para bajarle su puntaje, pero de igual manera logro estar en el top 3 :)

The winner isn't chosen by answer. The judges vote the winner based on overall impression including beauty poise charisma and confidence

Lu’s answer was great. Had she just left out the middle part after little kids or older kids and finished with my mission in life and make it a difference in a child’s life be at one or a thousand. That was the exclamation statement that was lost

Meanwhile, Mona Grudt was extremely biased against contestants of Latin culture and descent. She was a disgrace. The difference was that Zapata, even though he judged the latinas highly, they were extremely quality candidates anyways. He also judged others fairly too.

Zapata is a Colombian designer, 1999 meriam did go to Colombia for training and for her gown before flying to Trinidad and tobago

This was very difficult. However, I believe the judges nailed it. I for one, believe that Miss USA should have been considered in the top 5, maybe not 3, because her answer here was just a little misguided. However, I'm certain that she would have made up the slack of this answer in the final question segment.

It could be. But in many European countries, people speak a number of languages due to (self)interest and also because some of the countries in Europe take up languages in their schools. The languages they study tend to be the languages of the countries neighbouring theirs, or the major languages in Europe. A lot of European countries have many borders and neighbouring countries.
