In Year 1988 the concept of the MU pageant was the year of the children (how to help and improve the children) . And that year miss Thailand was the member of the Organization (in Thailand) to help the pitying children. So miss Thailand's mission has the same concept with the MU pageant. After she crowned she continuously to help the pitying children. Until now Y2019 she still help the children, she has been the leader of the Angle Wings-Foundation. This foundation was established for tne children to help, improve, support and solve the problem which may occur with the children.

I know many feel that the oriental countries were overscored because of where it was. But I'll tell you, they are by far some of the strongest contestants to come from their countries. Certainly Pauline has to be the best Hong Kong, I've seen. Other then Honey from Korea, and this one was still my favorite from there. Japan maybe not so much, but still Strong. Thailand, no question.

Just like in 1987, the judges have already picked their choices after the interview segment. Thailand, Korea, Mexico and Japan dominated the competition. Miss Hong Kong's stunning gown edged her over Miss Dominican Republic for the 5th spot. Miss Venezuela's low interview score knocked her out of the running.

Miss Norway was short changed. She was beautiful and classy. I'm not saying she should have won. Clearly, Thailand was the winner and I agree. But Norway was not being judged fairly.

I agree, I thought Miss Norway was beautiful. I mean ok, she really did mess up the interview part, but that's not supposed to carry into the other events. I mean that score for evening gown was pathetic from the judges. The dress was great and the poise. I also agree that Miss USA got underscored. It was tough as there were beautiful countries. I personally.felt Miss Korea got robbed, there was something about her that I've never seen in anyone else

What gets me is that what is not being seen....The Oriental delegates was extremely strong in 1988!!! 2011 was the first year since then that more than one Oriental made it to the Top 5!!! The Top 5 was definately the most deserving, with the USA and Dominican Republic close behind.... I would have switched Japan and Mexico around but the judges was right on the money!!! And those who disagree needs to grow up!!!

I loved the gowns this year, you could see the culture in some such as Japan and Korea. The only gown that I hated was Miss Venezuela, it does look star trek, all I can say is she should have said beam me up. I thought Hong Kong's dress was amazing, not sure why people hated it, the colors were beautiful. I do believe that the US got robbed, she should have made the cut, and she was very elegant in her black dress, she should have at least made the cut to the final 5.

@gar15t The unfortunately thing about Amanda Olivares is the year that she represented Mexico was the wrong year for her. I am positive that she would have won in 87, 89 - 92! She is by far the most beautiful Miss Mexico from 88 to now. She is far superior a contestant than the two winners of Miss Universe!!! As in all of the delegates that made it to the top 10-20 since 88, she is one of my 10 favorites. BTW, the evening gowns of 88 is the best!!! The 7 I mentioned are so elegant!!!!

As in Miss Universe 1988, Dominican Republic, Korea, Thailand, USA, Japan, Mexico, and Hong Kong was so pheonominal that it would have been really hard to choose only one winner. I just wish their could have been more than one winner. I wanted Japan to win due to being the most charming. As in Miss Mexico, the was the best ever Miss Mexico. No Miss Mexico representative can hold a candle to her. She was simply marvelous!!!!!

She's the best contestant I've ever seen at the MU pageant, and I've been watching it for almost 30 years. As i told the other person, this has to be the greatest rob in the history of MU pagent. I think in 94 Carolina Gomez was just as robbed, but for that one I think politics were involved, where as with Korea they just plain blew it, and as elegant as Carolina was, Korea still stands as my favorite ever, beauty, elegance, everything.

They should have had a final question! The judges had already made up their minds after the interviews. I didn’t like 1986, 1987, 1988 or 1999 because they did not have a final question. All those years the judges had made up their minds.

La mayoría copió el gesto que hizo Cecilia Bolocco, en el Miss Universo 1.987, la competencia de traje de noche, tocar la cara de la niña con la mano. El vestido de Miss Venezuela, es una copia al de Cecilia, también, la cola, la forma del diseño, ni siquiera le viene el color de la ropa, y falsamente los gestos que hizo, no mostró la elegancia ni la delicadeza. Si se dan cuenta, desde que baja, hasta que termina. Ojo comparen ese vestido con el del año anterior de Miss Chile.

I agree, I thought Miss Norway was beautiful. I mean ok, she really did mess up the interview part, but that's not supposed to carry into the other events. I mean that score for evening gown was pathetic from the judges. The dress was great and the poise. I also agree that Miss USA got underscored. It was tough as there were beautiful countries. I personally.felt Miss Korea got robbed, there was something about her that I've never seen in anyone else

By the way, someone made a video of the contestants from 1983 to 1998, showing them later in life, and Bente Brunland is in there, she still looks beautiful as well as happy

Miss Venezuela gown was Over the Top. Looking back at past pageant most of Miss Venezuela's gown were weird looking and over the top back in the 80's

What gets me is that what is not being seen....The Oriental delegates was extremely strong in 1988!!! 2011 was the first year since then that more than one Oriental made it to the Top 5!!! The Top 5 was definately the most deserving, with the USA and Dominican Republic close behind.... I would have switched Japan and Mexico around but the judges was right on the money!!! And those who disagree needs to grow up!!!

I loved the gowns this year, you could see the culture in some such as Japan and Korea. The only gown that I hated was Miss Venezuela, it does look star trek, all I can say is she should have said beam me up. I thought Hong Kong's dress was amazing, not sure why people hated it, the colors were beautiful. I do believe that the US got robbed, she should have made the cut, and she was very elegant in her black dress, she should have at least made the cut to the final 5.

Miss Mexico, Amanda Olivares should be the first mexican miss universe, she was beautiful and an amazing personality.
@gar15t The unfortunately thing about Amanda Olivares is the year that she represented Mexico was the wrong year for her. I am positive that she would have won in 87, 89 - 92! She is by far the most beautiful Miss Mexico from 88 to now. She is far superior a contestant than the two winners of Miss Universe!!! As in all of the delegates that made it to the top 10-20 since 88, she is one of my 10 favorites. BTW, the evening gowns of 88 is the best!!! The 7 I mentioned are so elegant!!!!

En verdad que se noto la manipulacion, entre las cinco finalistas debió estar República Dominicana, Su vestido me encantó. Y a mi opinión fué el mejor de todos. Y entre las asiáticas, definitivamente Tailandia fué la más elegante.

As in Miss Universe 1988, Dominican Republic, Korea, Thailand, USA, Japan, Mexico, and Hong Kong was so pheonominal that it would have been really hard to choose only one winner. I just wish their could have been more than one winner. I wanted Japan to win due to being the most charming. As in Miss Mexico, the was the best ever Miss Mexico. @Jukka70 agreed... Courtney's gown was simple yet very elegant. Amanda olivarez' hairdo was too big and her gown looked somewhat "conservative".
She's the best contestant I've ever seen at the MU pageant, and I've been watching it for almost 30 years. As i told the other person, this has to be the greatest rob in the history of MU pagent. I think in 94 Carolina Gomez was just as robbed, but for that one I think politics were involved, where as with Korea they just plain blew it, and as elegant as Carolina was, Korea still stands as my favorite ever, beauty, elegance, everything.

En esa época los vestidos eran todos horribles pero el de México ciertamente no era el mejor, pero de ser así que ventajoso el concurso que en legañas ocaciones si les importaba la ropa y en otras
They should have had a final question! The judges had already made up their minds after the interviews. I didn’t like 1986, 1987, 1988 or 1999 because they did not have a final question. All those years the judges had made up their minds.
Miss USA should have won as Miss Universe 1988. She was the most beautiful among all the contestants semifinalist. After her, Miss Dominican Republica, was the best. Norway, Venezuela and Thailand, completing the TOP 05 who deserverd be.

To this day, this is the worst rob in MU History. The young lady from Korea was nothing short of amazing. So sweet, so elegant. I mean yes Porntip was elegant too, but Miss Jang of Korea just had everything.

The results at the competition were correct. Colombia walked like a man and it was not sexy at all.
