I’d love there to be a liquid/fuel shipping loop for the Starfarer. Resupplying far out stations with fuel or moving fresh water to moon bases. Or even having the option to swap the tanks out for shipping containers like the Raft.

Oh, good tip! But still a bit of a maze... :P
With this ship I had one of the most memorable moments I had in game so far. I was part of a cargo clean up crew for ERTs, and a Starfarer had cargo we wanted but we couldn't open the bay doors from outside. So I had to look for some sort of crew entrance - I was very unfamiliar with the ship - found one, got access to the inside, had to find my way to the cargo bay which I couldn't open from the inside either, then looked for the cockpit to try to open the doors from there. There was a dead pilot corpse on the chair, had to take him out, sat on the chair and opened all ships doors - which worked even in the ship soft death state - then head back to get the cargo with my buddy. It was an awesome Star Citizen truly unique moment!

I could see if you and your org were doing a whole lot of bounty missions together having this ship around to refuel your teammates ship would give this ship a perfect use case scenario. Especially for pirates that do not want to land on surfaces to vulnerable and to just keep things moving. But for long play sessions with 5-8 other players all working together this wouldn’t be a bad ship to have around. It really needs to be able to refill itself like you said.

Future feature for the ship. They already have the vents at the front and you'll be able to replace the nosegun on the civ version with an additional vent. Eventually the idea is that the Starfairer will be able to sub atmo into gas giants and other hydrogen sources to source and refine their own hydrogen. Quantum on the other hand you'd have to swap with a refinery ship.

I've had a Gemini since the original concept sale in 2015, but it's definitely something I've always expected to not be very useful until the PU is MUCH further along. I think people willing to get one and sit on it till we have multiple systems as well as filling the tanks by scooping from gas giant atmospheres will be pleased eventually, but in the meantime there's not much to do with the Starfarer in either variation.

I love the exterior looks of the Starfarer, it really looks amazing. What a huge ship
I thought of some ways to make refuelling a player safer: -For the client to be refuelled, they'll need to lower shields and turn off engines (as in the Starfarer wont be able to refuel you if you don't do those things). It's important to note that the refueler wont have to lower its shields. It's just a one way thing. -I didn't really see where the 2 back turrets were, but they should both be in a perfect position to shoot at the client in case he decides to go A-wire. The fact that you need turrets to be active will also encourage multi-crew gameplay. -Definitely make those turrets able to "move" around the ship (like put them on rails or something) to increase their covering area. -Just give dummy thick shields and powerplants to the thing! -Maybe add a second refuelling probe. I don't really know why but it couldn't hurt I guess.

You would think so, but I can't help but feel like it'll be a little too short ranged for that. Its own quantum fuel store is not huge...
@JL-rj9fl
Жыл бұрын
@@Farrister Yeah, I definitely failed to take that into account in my comment. I should have mentioned that I believe a preliminary adjustment to quantum fuel levels across the board will come when Pyro is made available. This ship should be comparable to something like a KC-135 or similar - a long range refueler. Where the Vulcan likely would be a more limited range support craft (something like one of the U.S. Carrier-based refueling aircraft - probably inspired by the old S-3 Viking).
Within Stanton this game loop is not as useful but perhaps when Pyro domes out the refueling game loop will be better. As I own the Starfarer I also find it sluggish and I have used it for both refueling other players and trading cargo. Though mostly I refuel those within my own Organization. I like the ship overall and hope that in time there is more refinement done to it.
@Farrister

I'd like to think so - but then, the Starfarer has fairly limited range. It's not one of the big tank ships, confusingly!
@Farrister Another first class video. Outstanding! Question: which GPU do you use in your gaming PC? I ask because I'm planning to upgrade, and I want to know what others are enjoying these days.
@Adlore
Жыл бұрын
Right now star citizen is CPU bound for most systems. The question is what you're monitor resolution is, as that will determine what GPU you need. Additionally there is significant performance improvement in SC by having 32gb of ram. I would say any 30 series + Nvidia GPU will be sufficient for 1080p Star citizen, but you'd need a powerful cpu for good frames. Higher resolutions will need more powerful gpu such as a 3080
@Farrister

I love this ship! The interior, once you get used to it, is actually amazing - you have vertical traversal options everywhere, and can get to what you need to quickly if you know what you're doing. The 'engine room' you found is the placeholder for the quantanium refinery. You missed a really important aspect to the pilot size 4 turrets - unlike gimbals, they can swing in a almost hemispherical range, 90 degrees left and right and most of the way up and down too. Using manual gimbal control, this gives the pilot a huge engagement zone, and makes it a lot easier to use in combat. I definitely consider the Gemini the penultimate version of the starfarer. Its not for everybody, but I fell in love with it. refueling needs tweaks, most especially being able to refuel itself. The KC-135 it was inspired by was designed with that feature from the get go. In CIGs defense, they wanted to do that but apparently ran into some sort of technical block. Can't wait to see where this ships gameplay goes as resource and engineering gameplay come on line. Diamond in the rough.
@Farrister
Жыл бұрын
Interesting to read your notes - does that currently work in game re the pilot turrets? I wouldn't even know how to tell if it was working!
@paqx3534
Жыл бұрын
@@Farrister yes, it does. Flying the Gemini as a pocket carrier/bounty ship is what got me started on HOSAM+R as my flight setup, specifically to get the full use of those turrets. The auto-lockon cone for gimbals is hopelessly small in a ship that maneuvers as poorly as the Starfarer does, and also the AI that handles the gimbals breaks just like any other AI. This can leave a starfarer defenseless in a solo pilot situation, neatly sidestepped if you have manual gimbal control.

We really need some serious re-work on this ship, this ship has great potential to be a huge selling point to players, must be made better so it has better shields and better weapon systems, and most importantly has more cargo space, the standard Starfarer with various industrial capabilities could only be one variant after all, it is the cargo variant that will sell best.

As a starfarer captain my main customers are pirate or syndicates running blockades ironically. The starfarer currently is a money loser selling fuel for a reasonable margin so what I do is offer free fuel but say I take tips. The tips often exceed standard profit margin even if you had a 100% mark up on it. Of course there's a bunch that will jump you but supporting those types normally pays off and the last one that tried to take me out or pay ransom fought me for 26 minutes before one of them rammed me. To cut down on losses I run a very little bit of fuel in my tanks, rarely over 10k worth.

Arguably the most confusing deck layout in all the ‘verse! Given its payload I’d hate to have to exit this ship in an emergency! 😳

Absolutely
informative yet depressing video on the state of the game for fueling. There is NO doubt people would lure you to them for fuel only to kill you and salvage you. I'd rather they make this ship "unkillable" but also remove any offensive abilities and limit cargo hauling if the ship became unkillable. This would make refueling possible even to unsavory characters, which could add another playstyle loop by selling locations of hideouts/players that are wanted. I guess you could make it "killable" via large missles but not salvagable so that you could remove it from a battlefield but couldn't profit off of it.

I reckon people would rage at that idea too lol
They will be needed, but I can’t imagine a crew of 6 running it

No, me neither...
As a starfarer owner, I really feel that the layout should be reworked.

Agreed!
its a flying labyrinth
The Starfarer, even reworked, is NOT a suitable ship for a System like Stanton, Pyro and mebbe larger Systems is a more suitable environment for it. Apart from this, being a Multi-Crew vessel, is also more suited to Team Co-Op, and Org Play, where it would come in handy as a support refueller for fighters either on Patrol, or engaged in an Org v Org conflict.
@Farrister

But those larger systems - it just doesn't currently have the range for!
They need to make several other fueling ships.

@@Farrister Perhaps they'll take your word for it.
You wouldn't want to bother with this ship until at least Pyro is in the game and then hopefully they stick with their plan that Pyro is going to be scarce in fuel stations thus giving the opportunity to use this ship, but if they slap outpost with refuelling pads then yeah totally no point... We'll see.

It's a cool ship, but the distribution is confusing. Like it's designed as dungeon for boarding instead of as a ship for living in.
Starfarer SOOOO needs an oberhaul on the interior. Its so hard to navigate

Rats. I'd been saving my credits and bought the Constellation Phoenix instead of the Starfarer, because I disliked the bland metal interior. If I'd known it had all that orange, I'd have grabbed THIS instead.

The refuelling gameplay *could be* great! But needs some tweaks...
Worst design for a SC ship interior hands down. Looks like a fps set, not a space faring ship. External its hella ugly too. I also think a refueler should be controlled from a boom at the front. What if you are re fueling a ship that is BINGO on fuel. The ship cant move to you.

It does feel like an FPS level, yeah...
Couldn't think of anything worse than having to rely on other players to travel the verse.... This is /fail /copium Ship is such a dogs balls design. Jump seats? Why? Beds look ridiculous and would be bunks anyway. Horrendous interior of maze like frustration. Absolutely pointless working on a fuel transfer UI before Pyro even in. Must have been for Squadron 42 Thank god they reworking the interior

I'm with you. Having to rely on players for such immediate basics as travel is cool in theory, but will, IMO, be a mistake in game design. Imagine if you could only buy food and water from player space food trucks. :)
@Farrister

I think the idea is sound. The execution needs tweaking... I think there will be ways to traverse the verse without the Starfarer, but some ships might not have the required range to do so.
@checkwok

@@Farrister maybe you’re right. Perhaps any ship can plot a route to just about anywhere, but some shortcuts will require player based refueling. So in effect you are buying time from players.
This ship is UGLY and OLD but I think someday it will be one of the most comfortable, welcoming sights when the entire playspace isn't limited to a measly 3 AU system like Stanton
Seems like a lot of wasted space on this bad boy.
