I love how absolutely bonkers this song is. The goofiness of the parents, the babies singing, the Wormwoods being the worst parents of all time, the insane vocals on this snappily dressed doctor, and the incredible sets. It all works perfectly.

The point of this song according to the book: Most parents think of their child as the greatest thing ever, and that is perfectly normal, if annoying. Most parents will look at their child as a genius even after eating dirt. Annoying yes, but normal. But there are a few parents who do the opposite which is much worse than calling a brat a golden child. This is the case of the Wormwoods, who think of their extraordinary girl as nothing more than a scab.

Yup, and I would wager that the writers turned that little text until this big of song and put is it right at the beginning so that parents wouldn't accuse the show of presenting all parents as horrible
Tha babies are soo cute but I just truly love the parents crooning over the kids more than the kids themselves. Its something so wholesome and cute. Parents are annoying with that “my kid’s the best” attitude, but honestly its so innocent and beautiful when theyre born. And that goddamn doctor had me cracking up. In the stage musical mrs Wormwood hated Matilda because she was going to take a plane to Paris to dance on a Salsa competition, but she missed that chance by having Matilda. The irony that out of all these parents so, so excited to meet their babies and just thinking their child is the most amazing in the world. The only two parents who DONT want a child end up winning the baby lottery with a genius super-powered baby that other parents would die for
