DC got disrespected a lot throughout his career by fans, especially throughout the Jones stuff. It's ironic that Stipe, arguably the most disrespected fighter in the UFC based on promotion alone, was the guy to take him out. I don't think either of these guys are/were appreciated enough.

The UFC seemingly struggles with promoting the HW division. They sort of tried to bill Ngannou as the scariest man on the planet but then cucked him immediately with the Interim belt fight. Look back to the PRIDE days and how they promoted their heavy weights and the division nd it's no surprise why people still think Pride had the best HW mma division of all time.

I always get mixed feelings when revisiting this trilogy as I simultaneously lost and gained respect for DC. He showed great striking ability against a decent boxing heavyweight and actually took the much bigger man down a few times as well as slamming him, but IMO the eye poking in the first fight affected the outcome. I think Stipe was somewhat compromised and very clearly frustrated by the fouls which contributed to him opening himself up losing. Then, the pokes continue into the 2nd/3rd fight. Not a good look for DC.

*Please do Shawn Jordon vs. Derrick Lewis.* I’m forever happy that Stipe won this trilogy, and that he legitimately accidentally eyepoked DC (whilst DC was simultaneously trying to eye-poke him). *Every jab DC threw he intentionally jabbed his thumb under his fist and pushed it into Stipe’s eye.* There’s a perfect angle showing it in the second fight (1st round I think it was).

2 best fights I`ve seen from ufc are Miocic vs. Cormier 2 and 3. Dudes delievered everything you could ask for in a fight. Sadly there was no audience because of Covid19.

Fun story, my younger cousin works at an optometry office in my old hometown San Jose and DC came in shortly after this fight to have his eyes checked, he signed a bunch of stuff for my cousin and the other girls working there and she also confirmed that his eye was in fact, extremely fk’d and had to wear a patch for weeks and required special drops and more.

DC relied on eyepokes in all 3 fights, he never would've won the belt without those eyepokes.

@@FreeKickMaestro absolutely, and I understand them wanting him to win since they obviously are close with him as commentators and such, but they need to be neutral when it comes to calling fights as they see it. Even in the second fight when Stipe began to finish him in the 4th, Cruz literally says “Oh no!”
