by the way, when she starts singing "Maya, Maya, Maya" at 3:25, that's her daughter Maya Rudolph she's singing to. I think that's pretty cool. what could be cooler then Minnie singing to her daughter this way. we should all be so lucky.

According to the liner notes from Riperton's compilation album Petals, the melody for "Lovin' You" was created to be a distraction for her baby daughter (Maya Rudolph) so that Minnie and her husband Richard could hang out. Maya was in the studio with Riperton on the day it was recorded and Riperton can be heard singing her daughter's name at the end, but only in the unedited or album version. The song fades out early in the radio edit because the disc jockeys felt that the repeated "Maya" was being overdone and that it would be misunderstood as a religious chant.[12]

she was so ethereal. the baby's breath in her hair, the way she hits those high notes so effortlessly, the long necklaces she wears, the way she sings her daughter's name at the end. gone way too soon, she was such an immense talent.

I have NEVER heard such a gifted female singer and I've heard many. Back in this era of music....there was no auto-tunes & computer/synthesizer enhancements were just beginning to be created and not widely used. If you were going to be a star singer/ musician...you had to be gifted! You had to be able to 'SANG" as we say! And it's an understatement to say Minnie Riperton was gifted....she was anointed by GOD! Not only did she have an unlimited range but....the clarity of the notes she sang was simply amazing. She played with the notes vocally and she never struggled to reach a key. YUP...she was stolen from us much..much to soon. Thank GOD for KZread and shows like "The Midnight Special" that recorded these amazing artist. If not for these recordings..... I believe this younger generation that never saw Minnie wouldn't believe an artist of her gifting ever existed! Thank You MinnieRipertonCHANNEL for posting this beautiful "sample" of her

She was a hugely gifted artist . The range and high notes she could reach were unreal. Most of all, she was absolutely adorable woman. I was brokenhearted when she left us so young. I guess God needed her angelic voice to sing in his choir. Cuz that's what she had. A singing voice from heaven

Minnie was one of the greatest and most unique vocalists of all time. Her ability to hit the high notes with such extreme precision was uncanny. She was taken from us way too soon. Minnie is now teaching angels how to hit high notes and how to sing in such a beautiful free-flowing voice. RIP Minnie, we love you and we miss you - always.
