by the way, when she starts singing "Maya, Maya, Maya" at 3:25, that's her daughter Maya Rudolph she's singing to. I think that's pretty cool. what could be cooler then Minnie singing to her daughter this way. we should all be so lucky.

According to the liner notes from Riperton's compilation album Petals, the melody for "Lovin' You" was created to be a distraction for her baby daughter (Maya Rudolph) so that Minnie and her husband Richard could hang out. Maya was in the studio with Riperton on the day it was recorded and Riperton can be heard singing her daughter's name at the end, but only in the unedited or album version. The song fades out early in the radio edit because the disc jockeys felt that the repeated "Maya" was being overdone and that it would be misunderstood as a religious chant.[12]

she was so ethereal. the baby's breath in her hair, the way she hits those high notes so effortlessly, the long necklaces she wears, the way she sings her daughter's name at the end. gone way too soon, she was such an immense talent.

I have NEVER heard such a gifted female singer and I've heard many. Back in this era of music....there was no auto-tunes & computer/synthesizer enhancements were just beginning to be created and not widely used. If you were going to be a star singer/ musician...you had to be gifted! You had to be able to 'SANG" as we say! And it's an understatement to say Minnie Riperton was gifted....she was anointed by GOD! Not only did she have an unlimited range but....the clarity of the notes she sang was simply amazing. She played with the notes vocally and she never struggled to reach a key. YUP...she was stolen from us much..much to soon. Thank GOD for KZread and shows like "The Midnight Special" that recorded these amazing artist. If not for these recordings..... I believe this younger generation that never saw Minnie wouldn't believe an artist of her gifting ever existed! Thank You MinnieRipertonCHANNEL for posting this beautiful "sample" of her

by the way, when she starts singing "Maya, Maya, Maya" at 3:25, that's her daughter Maya Rudolph she's singing to.

I lived in Gainesville, Florida in the early 70s. Minnie Riperton lived near my house. I would hear her singing some times and thought it was an angel singing.
I was 18 years old then...and i miss that magical time in my life. 😢😢😢
