So many videos out there with only half the info needed to troubleshoot the problem. I’m ordering a steering sensor tomorrow. 🤣. I had the same problem/symptoms that you experienced and your video helped to confirm I needed the steering sensor. Great informative video.

Great Video. I just had the same issues this weekend. My Ultrex works with the remote but it won't work with the pedal to the left side. It will turn to the right but it won't turn to the left. Thanks for the video, it saved me a huge headache!

You speak my language on troubleshooting. Very informative and to the point. Just got one of these units so knock on wood!

My problem seems to be a little different than most of the ones I see videos about. My motor will not turn right. The cables are good. Sometimes when I turn it on, it will steer left and right normally for a short amount of time… like maybe 1 minute and sometimes up to 5 minutes. Then it stops going right all of a sudden and then will only go left. Sometimes I can turn it off and back on again and it will work for a short time again. I expected it to be a steering board so I replaced the steering board sensor last week and it did not fix the issue. When it’s not turning right with the foot pedal, it will not turn right with the remote control, spot lock or the autopilot/N button. It sounds like I might have a bad control board.

To add to this, I just didn’t check on the black/white wires coming from the control board. When the trollling motor is acting as it should, I get dc voltage tilting the pedal both directions. When the troll motor is “acting up” and it’s not willing to turn right I get around 1 volt or less on the forward/right direction and I get normal voltage on the back/left direction. I would say we’ve probably confirmed I need a new control board. Thanks for the help!

I replaced my steering sensor board in my Ultrex last year (June of 2023) because the motor would just spin all the way around as soon as I turned the motor switch on. The new steering board fixed the problem. This year (June of 2024) my motor will not turn in either direction - by foot pedal or by the i-Pilot remote. There is no voltage coming out of the main control board (black and white wires) to the steering board, so I suspect that the main control board is bad now.

my power assist motor came loose, the four little bolts came off, and the wires broke off the motor.

I have an Ultrex, too. It seems they have an inordinate amount of issues that go back to control board problems. Mine still works but nav and spot lock features are non-functional. Was told by Minnkota that connections in tje foot pedal have a tendency to corrode and that causes them to fail.

I have the same issue but minn kota also told me that it could be a voltage issue. I just checked this morning and my 2nd battery out of my 3 trolling motor batteries blew and had a crack so I wasn't getting a full 36v. I was probably getting less than 24 under load. Hopefully that's the issue and not my steering sensor. 😫😫

Sooo frustrated! Help if u can. In short, my pedal turns right but stuck trying left/down. I CAN control it with Humminbird solix unit (everything works). I replaced the steering sensor as you mentioned. It didn’t fix the issue. So I ordered a new module and that didn’t fix it. Uggg!! The two tiny wires from pedal to motor head look ok. When unplugged neither left or right pedal functions as expected. Plugging back in, right turn works again but left still stuck. Do u think testing those two wires from under pedal/module will tell me anything? Any suggestions much appreciated.

Mine just went out on me yesterday, wont turn left using the pedal, but if I hit the spot lock button on the right side of the pedal it works just fine. So I'm thinking the control board is the problem?

Were you still able to use the on/off prop when having this issue? We are unable to turn the trolling motor left or right and the prop switch does not work at all.

Yes this was a steering issue only, prop switch worked just fine

My motor automatically turns all they way to the right. And then you cannot steer back to the leftt. Did yours do that?

When my Ultrex exhibited this same symptom - it was the steering control board.

Just curious wasn’t the steering sensor under warranty?

This was a 4 year old trolling motor so it was out of warranty unfortunately

Did you order part from Minn Kota or a service repair center? Do you have minn Kota s number you called?

Ours is not tuning at all, we can move it by hand but the pedal doesn’t work and the remote won’t turn it either

Last year (2023) my Ultrex would spin all the way in one direction when I powered it on. I replaced the steering control board, and all was good. Now, June of 2024, and it will not steer at all - with the pedal or with the remote. I have no choice but to buy another steering control board and a main board. That's about $400!
