Imaging if Minisforum put in a slim 120mm case fan on top, just increasing the height by a mere 15mm. (or even better, a 140mm fan) That should cool this beast a lot better.

Thanks for that info on Windows 10 I always have my last OS as well as Current on separate partitions. So my 12 yo PC ran faster on Windows 7 after I had repeated Windows 10 issues, probably power related. However the UM790 had display issues in Windows 10 and the Minisforum guys sent me an ISO which wiped everything, even my data on 2nd NVME SSD and installed Windows 11 Pro I might install on the 2nd NVME as a separate partition, but I need to check with Minisforum guys that the warning about overwriting system files is nothing to do with the Bios Boot system and that it's safe to install Windows 10 on there. I can then point to the W11 drivers as you indicated here. Wish me luck

I find with PCs, to install an operating system you should only have a drive you are willing to get wiped, as sometimes I have had boot stuff be put on multiple drives as windows didn't know any better.

AMD finally released the drivers for 760M&780M for Win10&11 this week.

Finally someone who took a deep look on insides and tried to do something more than just running some games. May I ask you to run Prime95 for 5 minutes? I have UM690 and I'm so frustrated from it. It's just instantly crashing under load. It's awful reliability. I'm using it as a server. Prime95 shows error and on linux stress test package can crash whole system.

BTW, Mine memory was bad. It was so bad that in stress tests it didn't sustain stability more than some seconds. Such a shitty RAM modules. I had to replace it.

Unfortunately this is not the case with this unit. The 790 pro has a crippled bios that will not allow any USB boots or dual boot. The only way to get Linux on this unit is to add a second SSD and flash the new drive with Linux. From there, you can boot and select which of the two SSD's to boot from. Earlier minisforum units could boot from USB, that's a big step back. Other than that, this unit is a beast!

@@adam29334 even with this limitation, the unit is still terrific value. As a Windows station for intensive tasks (in my case, as a DAW) I've had excellent performance with almost no heat or noise issues. It is probably one of the best windows devices I've purchased.

@@adam29334 yes. Here is the response from minisforum support. Dear Customer. Sorry for the late reply. Sorry, booting the system from USB drive is not supported. Setting the first boot option will only enable the 790pro to boot the installed system from the USB drive. You can only set the order to boot the system by installing two NVME SSDs.

Hi, can you set the RAM timing in the BIOS? It would be interesting because the RAM is also used as graphics memory, and if you buy the barebones version and use faster RAM, for example DDR5-5600, CL40-40-40, the graphics performance could be a lot better. It is clear that RAM latency matters much more than a clock increase. The important question would be whether the UM790 pro with DDR5-5600, CL40-40-40 runs stably or not? The other important question would be whether a Raid 0 with the two NVME SSD works without problems?? For example 2X 2TB Gen4 SSD. Most likely it would be a monster setup RAM timing with CL40 and 2X 2TB Gen4 SSD in RAID 0. I mean it would be very interesting an extra video about these options.

Since 7735hs seemed to have the same problems with drivers did you check the analogue sound of that machine? In Beelink's forum they had meshed up drivers and SER6 max after new installation of win 11 had no sound. Turned out this hybrid solution to chipsets nowadays needs multiple drivers. So I had to find realtek alc 897 drivers in order for the audio analogue ports to work. Did you check the sound here because in the video it seems the audio is being passed through vuia the hdmi which is AMDs audio drivers.

Hi there, great video. Just bought a Mini UM790 Pro and very good to watch someone else install Windows 10 on the Mini. I was thinking do you think by using 'Create Windows 10 installation media' might work by setting up on a USB stick on another PC, and then let the Mini do all the work of downloading Windows 10 and necessary drivers etc? To install windows 10, I believe you need to go to bios and turn of TPM and possibly Secure Boot. Otherwise it might not let you install. You might need to install windows 10 on another pc and transplant it to this computer after copying over the Drivers directory to this install. I believe I had an issue getting it to install directly in it, so I had to clone another AMD based system install and then taking care of drivers using Drivereasy.com

I think the heatsink is just for show, they should create ability for third party noctua fan in the future, as that will be better way to handle all the heat, which there is not a lot of because it is super efficient.

At 100 euros more I would hesitate to. For us here I think difference is only 50-60 Dollars so no hesitation there, and I went for their most expensive package when I ordered it with the 64gb ram as I figured I may need it for the graphics. However 32gb should be more than enough!

Yes it comes with wifi card, I just removed mine for experimentation, plus I use wired only.

Recently, I purchased one of these devices and unfortunately had to return it to Amazon within an hour due to an extremely noisy case fan. I was quite disappointed as I had been eagerly anticipating this product.

Good point regarding that. I have also the gtr 7 pro and the bottom case fan to cool ssd and ram I disconnected because it was too noisy for me and was fine. With this one I am fine, however not sitting next to this device on regular.

How can I run 6 monitors on this UM790 Pro (for trading stocks)? Do I have to add an additional GPU and is that an expensive add-on?

I believe that each of the USB4 ports works as a display output just buy the cable. 6 ports likely not, however, you may be able to get a eGpu dock and put a graphics card with 4 ports on it and get full 6 monitor output. Perhaps a gaming PC is a better bet for you with integrated graphics for two outupts and an nvidia gpu for another 4 monitors.

I had mine less than a week ago and sent it back to amazon on the same day it came in the mail. The wifi card was terrible. My acer Nitro 5 can download at over 500Mb/s. The Mini PC barely got 50 Mb/s. I even tried putting a TP Link Archer wireless adapter to boost speed. It conflicted with my wireless mouse no matter what USB port I used. Most likely because it isn't equipped with enough PCIE lanes to handle those 4 USB ports on the back. I even had a 220 dollar coupon and thought it was a ripoff. Over 1000 dollars Canadian is way too much for this. I mean if you're building something that can game you need enough pcie lanes. You need fast wifi to download big games. It's a great start, but these Mini PCs are clearly unfinished. I won't be buying one for quite a while yet.

I believe I always have fans off. It depends if you do gaming all the time or not or just do light work, it probably doesn't matter.

Personally I would say it will work 100%. At worst it will work at slower timing on the ram.

Pime ETA overcloded his in the bios it was easy RAM clock is capped at 5600 but he showed how the BIOS overclocks the AMD on CPU and GPU bad ass performance! but it did come with a warning as minisfourum claims overclocking the ryzen will void the warranty@@oviandre

True, I think it was an AMD thing, they always have crap drivers when their chips first come out.

As far as I have found out you should be aware of the config you get when buying these. The Barebone is absolutely the best choice, as the different configs here is not the optimal parts if you want to get max performance. 1. It's not a PCIe 4.0 drive you get 2. It's not a 5600 set DDR5 Set you get wether 32 or 64gb. That is only the specs of the mobo You can find individual ram and SSD within the same price bracket as the pre configured options, so instead of having a useless 512gb or 1tb PCIe 3.0 ssd lying around if your going to upgrade to a 4.0 drive anyway. This is a really nice mini PC if you Want a fairly good performing work horse with 64gb ram and Can't afford a Mac M1/M2/Ultra that you can't upgrade. The Graphics is even decent for an igpu for light gaming. Been seriously interested in this one for use with a Touch display for my music gigging rig with 2 nvme drives and 64gb ram. It does seem like a bit of a dodgy company if you happen end up with a possibly rma case. I guess that's the price you pay to be too poor to afford a Mac Mini M1 🤔

Anyway, I think you're choosing well, this time Minisforum has won the match against Beelink with the UM790, as it performs better in nearly all the benchmarks I've seen, most important seems to be more stable in every aspect. Also it's looks seems more suitable for an office than the more "gamer" design of GTR.

@@estebanclemente As every different X86 processor variant (AMD/Intel) and also Macs, they perform differently dependent on what kind of calculations you throw at them. There is rarely a situation where you flat out can call one product of similar config a clear winner. The Apple silicon macs M1, M2 and Pro variants. Have some areas where they taken into account that these processors is primarily still "low Power" profiled products and should be compared as such and still in some areas of usage they outright destroys earlier Mac Pro's based on much more expensive and high powered Intel Xeon chips, while the older Mac Pro's with up to 30 cores the Mac Pros still have the Upper hand even they tech wise also is getting a bit long in the tooth compared to new AMD and Intel Processors. To give an example professional sound recording just the Small M1 performs absolutely stunningly on software that runs on both Apple native Silicon and X86 platform and comes surpricingly close to a PC config with either an AMD 7950X or Intel 13900K that on paper is much more powerfull than the M1. While the current top Apple config is also very expensive and definetly not in a price range of the average home user, for some professionals there is still a good point of buying into the Apple eco system. I am personly an Apple fan for their phones and tablets but as a PC user I am not at all into the close ended system that cost a fortune and you have to decide when you buy it how much total ram an diskspace you will need cause if you can upgrade a certain apple product its gonna cost 4 times as much as a comparing PC part. But it's all up to if you need the kind of support the pro's usually want on their hardware if its worth the premium price. Not that I personly think that Apple's custommer support is That Good. It will alway be in the eyes of the beholder 🙂

See earlier not on this from me. You can't boot from a USB, so you must install a second SSD and image it, then override the boot set. While this is a fantastic little unit, getting Linux running is a nightmare due to this limitation and a very limited bios interface. I ran Zonin and Mint on a similar, older Minisforum unit, but this one is ganked for Windows.

Don't play games on this.

You waste a lot of money. There is a free cloning device that is for Windows and Linux and Mac. It is called recue zilla It is a download to a USB drive of no more than 32 gigabyte usb . The program is 1.1 GB. It sees all your drives and asks what do you want to clone and where. It clones everything to a tee. I use it all the time as it is on a flash drive. Plus Snappy Driver is a free driver tool. A torrent download of about 32 giigs You would need about a 64 gb drive to have almost every driver you need Totally free

Lol, even though the tips in this video might help some people, your opinion about Bill and your problems suggest that you should not use Windows at all. I recommend Arch Linux if you have experience with Linux, for beginners I recommend Manjaro Linux.

I've got to look into Linus. Would switch right away if I can use my Corsair Icue in Linux as I have macros programmed in there for work I do on a K95 RGB keyboard and Need Frontpage 2003, a windows program to run.

I think I may do best of both worlds DOCKER with WSL on Windows 10! Windows is just so nice and enjoyable to use!

@@wisebuyreviews Me and a quite a few hundred thousand linux users would DEFINITELY not agree with windows being "nice and enjoyable to use".

Non stop BSODs . No scan known to man could stop it. Support complete waste of time. Returned. Minis forum said they shipped it with an old motherboard which caused the problems. It shouldn't be like this. Buyers beware.

You don't need to trust them if you order it from Amazon as it is easy to return so test it and see if it works for you. This is one of my favorite mini pc's!

My advice to everyone! Don't buy anything from Minisforum. I did this mistake and I regret it a lot! They sell bad quality. Forget the 2 years of warranty. It's worth nothing when the support shows no reaction, or doesn't help.

Yeah, sure bud. Minisforum is the only mini pc company that solved the heating issues. Have both the 790 and 690, and both work flawlessly without issues. Not only that, but my 690 without any ssd or ram and they replaced it that day and let me keep the barebones system which I plan on buying the SSD and Ram for. Mini is probably the only company to deal with when buying a mini PC. Beelink, TK, GTR and pretty much everyone else sticking the Ryzens mCPUs in small systems have hitching issues due to overheating.

I would avoid the commie china pcmakers as there cluess when it comrs to customer support. They shipped a totally dead system, i had to provide a video to prove that pc wont post, befkre they would emaill a shipling label but refjsed to send a replacement system and then after seeks of delay. As to cooling i did Try a morefine with 2 nvme drives no cooling issues but only 1 drive worked worked and the wifi only worked with oldest version of linux. And of course zero responce from support. I would never use any of the failed attempts at writi g an os from the evil empife as linux tnds to jjst run out of the box.

Нет охлаждения 2-х чипов памяти снизу SSD m.2 !!!! В итоге перегрев и разрушение !!! В такие HTPC, как и в ноутбуки - только SSD с расположением всех чипов и контроллера с одной стороны и только !!!

Hey it works like this all this time and works fantastic so no issues thus far. Thin and light notebooks have no cooling except a pad anyway so nothing to worry about. If it overheats, it just slows down, plus the SSD is Samsung and I trust their tech to operate at the higher temperatures.
