Mining Every Ore In A Chunk! ▫ Minecraft Survival Guide (1.18 Tutorial Lets Play) [S2 E68]

Ойындар

The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 2 continues! Ever wondered how many ores are in a chunk?
With our Enderman XP farm complete, in this video we complete our moss mining chunk in the mountain biome, then compare the ores we find to the Ore Distribution chart Mojang published when the 1.18 was launched. We then mine out every ore in the chunk using Silk Touch, to see how many of each ore this chunk contained, then we mine it all again using Fortune to see how many resources we'd get from a single chunk!
Along the way we learn where to find Diamonds, confirm Deepslate Coal and Deepslate Emerald are pretty rare, discover fortune on Copper is still pretty OP, and do a PSA about avoding getting trapped in Bedrock!
You can find the Ore Distribution image at this article on Minecraft.net: www.minecraft.net/en-us/artic...

i did the same.. found a slimes while caving... dug out a big area and confirmed that it was a slime chunk.. then i mined it out from the top of world down. My slime farm is set up and then continued mining down. (i built this one kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqKHqtunYdK0grg.html ) . I have about 12 more layers of deepslate to go to get to bedrock. Did it the hard way; moss would have been way easier.... the one good thing is that its pretty close to a skelly spawner, so was able to repair my tools alot.. And because i have spent alot of time in that chunk i now have more slime than i am ever going to need in a single player world. ...

Moss mining seems really good with making perimeters. Might have to do it for an underground creeper farm I want to build because I just don't like the look of exposed platform farms, especially in my spawn chunks where I have my main base. The best levels to mine Deepslate Coal Ores are between Y-0 to Y5, cutting a 4x4 tunnel along Chunk Borders. You can also find Deepslate Emeralds at these Levels in Mountains, as well as a good sampling of the other Deepslate Ores. You can also use the new tunnels to get around to your Geodes in the area, or as a transportation hub under your Base.

Personally I'm probably going to stick to caving and branch mining, but thanks for doing this so we don't have to. Sidenote, because you missed out on quite a bit of deepslate doing this, from my own test in the 1.18 datapack, (and later confirmed by Etho on his LP) using TNT to collect deepslate in a similar manner to looking for ancient debris is a fantastic way to collect large quantities of deepslate quickly, and while you do destroy a bit of the ores, you also expose a fair amount in the walls, and it forms fairly uniform tunnels. So if you need a lot of deepslate for a future project, it's definitely worth it compared to trying to mine without instamine. I think I was mining for all of five minutes before I decided to switch to TNT myself.

An interesting note about the ore distribution chart: While it is actually generated from the game data, it's still only an approximation, since it doesn't take into account the different types of veins the various ores can generate. Yes, it makes that difference for some of the distributions on various Y-levels, but for example diamond ore veins come in three sizes and "rarities", all spread out in the triangular distribution mentioned in the chart. The small veins generate up to 7 times per chunk with 50% air exposure, medium-sized veins generate about 4 times per chunk and 0% air exposure, and large veins generate about once every 9 chunks with 30% air exposure. Note on air exposure: It doesn't affect whether a vein generates at all. It specifies the chance that individual blocks of a vein are placed if they would be adjacent to an air block. Also, air blocks themselves are obviously never replaced by ore veins, so if the selected location for a vein ends up being in the middle of a cave, that's still the location of the vein, it just won't place any ore blocks there.

The interesting thing to realize is that thanks to villager trading, none of this is actually necessary anymore. In fact, other than maybe some initial cobble mining, and of course netherite that you have to dig deep into the nether for, you can get pretty much everything you need without leaving the surface. Granted, it might be faster in some cases (early iron before you have an iron farm set up in particular, and the 'loose' diamonds for things like enchanting tables and jukeboxes. Maybe redstone, but once you have a cleric trade going, they can supply that).

It's a slow method of mining, but has the advantage of being very precise and thorough. It was very easy to maintain a 16x16 shape and clear out an entire chunk using this method. Using a beacon might be faster initially, since the moss method requires you to spread it manually using bonemeal... but I think that's balanced out by being able to remove deepslate faster than it's possible to do with haste II.

I recently explored a cave (lighting it up to optimize a farm) and most of it was underwater. With a lot of night vision and water breathing potions, it is very easy to explore and in just roughly 20 minutes I got almost a stack of diamonds! what surprised me was that once I got to explore the non flooded parts of the cave, I found only a small vein of diamonds. I don't know if this is related to no-air exposure, since the caves are flooded, but for me, exploring aquifers seems like the way to go, because you don't have to mine through deepslate and you still get those easy "exposed" veins. Again, I might have just been lucky, though.

The rarest ore isn't deepslate coal or stone diamond, it's deepslate Emerald. This is immediately evident from the chart and coal isn't really meant to generate at deepslate but it does and it generates in veins of 1-4. Emerald on the other hand has - quite literally - a very slim chance of generating in deepslate, even 'slimmer' than stone diamond and it generates in singular blocks persistently. I hope people acknowledge this, because i've seen many other youtubers believing deep-coal or stone diamond is the rarest.

  • @Pixlriffs

Deepslate emerald has to be the rarest just based on biome spread. It's only able to generate in mountain biomes, which only account for 10% of the number of biomes in the Overworld, and possibly even less of the actual surface area because they rely on elevation to generate.

I think sculk mining should be thing. Because mining sculk with a hoe will also give you the XP to restore your hoe's durability. But, the only problem is the way to get the sculk. You can keep 1 or 2 shulker boxes of eggs with you, to spawn baby chickens and kill them to spread the sculk. Or, a better way of doing it would be to carry a few stacks of infested stone/deepslate with you, to spawn the silverfishes and kill them.

DS coal is in a range so close to DS emerald and DS emerald has a wider range even though DS coal will form in larger veins than DS emeralds and will on average be more common after a depth depending on the chunk. Wild. There might be a market for DS coal that adds value

I'd imagine if you needed all different kinds of materials, you'd need several different strip mines at different levels.
