One thing I forgot, was Rinza for steam wand maintenance. I usually do 230g of water to 30g of Rinza and soak for 15 minutes. One thing I didn't forget was to take my daily vitamins today. Thanks again to Ritual for sponsoring this video! I love their vitamins because I know that I'm getting a high quality supplement that will help me throughout the day. loving the gatekeepers from the minimalist community here. he didn't do a task in the most minimalist way...how dare he. this coffee routine seems to bring him so much joy and is great to look at. minimalism is not living in an apartment with no furniture and just one blanket. get over yourselves.

love the setup and workflow. i would stay away from grindz, i used to use it on my baratza encore but since i upgraded to the niche i never used it since the difference is so minimal and i didn’t like the idea of something foreign being put into my grinder and drinks, even if you purge it some of those grindz residue will always remain in ur grinder.

It's meant to be used before taking apart the grinder to clean. I don't use it at home but at the coffee shop I used to work at where we go thru 50lbs of beans a day and the grinder was cleaned weekly, it's was necessary. I think of it as a high tech version of grinder a spoonful of rice grains on your spice grinder before cleaning it out.

If he finds value or joy from it, then why not? Minimalism is subjective to whatever or however much a person finds is enough for them. (In this case though, I think it's more of the aesthetic and having things tucked away). Personally, my coffeemaking is a lot more simple than his... but it seems like a fun interest:)

Hey, so I also have a niche zero grinder as well. I saw the grindz tablets in your drawer. The niche zero says specifically to not clean your grinder with grinding tablets. If you need to deep clean it just take out the burrs entirely and clean it by hand. Also in terms of dose, it's less about the dose and more about the ratio of grams of grounds to water. A 1:2 ratio would be 18g of coffee grounds to 36g of water. Right now, I use a 1:1.89 ratio. Also be careful to not rotate the tamp too much. With the Bigstep being a 58.3 tamp, you shouldn't have to rotate it at all to get all the grounds down. Plus rotating the tamp can unseat the puck if you're not careful.

The irony of this "minimalist" genre. There's nothing minimalist about home espresso setup that involves dozens of tools and products not to mention the NUMEROUS steps it takes to pull a good shot. Don't get me wrong bc it is a lot of fun if you like espresso drinks but this is not minimalism. I'd argue the process of making good espresso and tinkering with parameters makes it fun.

  • @theasiandev

If you are going with medium to lighter roast, I recommend changing your grinder to a flat burr to increase the clarity. Niche is a great "traditional espresso" grinder, but if you are going with random assortment of roast/beans/varietals, you'd want to go with a more general purpose burrs. I'd probably recommend either (from most expensive to least): monolith max / eg1, wug2, p100, p64, or df64 (swap out with HU or lab sweet burrs). If you'd like, a "hack" is slow-feeding into the niche, like 1-2 beans at a time, that would end up cleaning up the shot (less fine production due to popcorning) to give you a taste of what more clarity would taste like.

Some people choose to suffer with their disorders, some take advantage of the gift they were given. If you don't like what you hear or read, that is your own fault, because you chose to be here in the first place. A negative mindset will emit a negative reaction, and you'll only suffer more from that.
