I really like some of the super thin storage solutions from IKEA! They have a number of very nice things that are less than 5" in width - for example, the STALL shoe cabinet. It helped us get storage and the illusion of a full piece of furniture in very tight spaces. Notably, we have a small wall that two doors open into, but it fit the STALL perfectly without affecting the doors, which made the space feel less awkward and more intentional.

Need to see how you use the vertical space! Our condo has high ceilings too and not sure yet how to store things. I’d say add your dresser to the den closet for more storage 😊

I love the kitchen backsplash. For bedroom storage without a dresser, get a bed with built in drawers on each side or nightstands with multiple drawers to use for underwear and pajamas.

🏠 Great space Christina! You can try to put your dresser inside one of the wardrobes and see if you can still hang shorter things on top and the long ones on the side of the dresser, I did that before. 😘

Yup, I was about to suggest that. I have the 3-drawer MALM dresser from IKEA in our ONLY closet in our little condo. I desperately need to do a purge because it’s slightly overflowing but it’s a great solution. We somehow even have towels & bedding in that little closet. 🤔🪄🎩

Suggested the same in another comment. Downside is losing vertical space for hanging things like dresses, but that's okay.

this is a great idea! And if the dresser seems to large she can buy a different one that fits in the space a bit better... the pants that are on heavy rotation can be hung instead of folded :) -- any heavily used items can be folded on top of the dresser as well!

When I couldn't fit a dresser, I got a short 3 tier shoe rack and used it as shelving to put folded clothes on with baskets for things like socks. I just tucked it in the bottom of my closet. Some of them stack which may help you maximize vertical space!

Yes to renting! My husband and I have similar reasons for continuing to rent - it means we can live in a inner-city suburb (in Melbourne, Australia), a location that would be too costly to buy in. I also like not having the baggage of a huge loan and hidden expenses! We can rent and have enough leftover to invest in other ways. Thank you for your comments - they’re a breath of fresh air compared to the ‘property is king’ mentality here.

Congratulations on your new place. Having laundry in your home is such a blessing. I give thanks all the time for not having to haul my laundry to the laundry mat. The floor to ceiling windows are going to be incredible, especially in the winter when it’s so grey. The natural light will help a lot. 🏠

Hot tip for maximizing kitchen storage. If you have adjustable shelves, get extra shelves cut to size at your local Home Depot and get the little shelf pegs. Then adjust each shelf height to perfectly fit what’s on it. I’ve literally doubled my kitchen storage in almost every place I’ve lived for a minimal investment.

Your wall opposite the kitchen would be ideal for cabinetry. Full wall storage (think pantry and/or overflow bathroom and bedroom storage) or lower drawer units and a counter that could be your coffee station.

Awesome apartment, thanks for sharing! I've lived in a lot of small spaces over the years, and my solution to no dresser is just less clothes. I hang pretty much everything up in my small closet space, and put underwear and such in fabric bins on the shelf above. You can also put a shallow bin or two BELOW the hanging clothes, and even stack them below the shirts section. Good luck!

Love it. I just moved from the “unicorn” rental in NYC (huge terrace, large bedroom, fully renovated, amazing east facing city views, plenty of closet space and in unit washer/dryer) to a mid century purchased large studio due to too high rent increases. With no more personal laundry, outdoor space or separate bedroom, I’m still mourning the loss but got to stay in my preferred neighborhood near the park and kept similar views and lighting. We make the best choices at the time and hopefully enjoy the change. Your new space is beautiful!

Love it! We have a similar small laundry space and got a rack for the back of the door to put our detergent, etc., and found it works great! It has four small narrow baskets, so it has plenty of room for the essentials We got it off of Amazon. Also, we tried putting stuff on the top of the machine, but it tends to move backwards a lot as the machine runs. Can't wait to see it furnished!

We live in an apartment/condo north of Toronto. My storage solution (instead of a dresser) was to slide a slim set of shelves into the closet & use that instead of dresser. And I definitely use the space below the hanging clothing as best as possible. Above the hanging clothing, I have a shelf & use that shelf for linens & out of season clothing in a box. Also, for shoes, I use a shoe storage solution that hooks over the door to make use of space inside the door of closet (and if you want, it could be used for things other than shoes).

  • @yova4776
    @yova4776 Жыл бұрын

I have an over the toilet stand with glass shelves from Home Depot and it feels so much classier and looks so much nicer than wire/metal. I store all of my towels on hooks on the back of the door rather than folded. I think they take up less space that way and then you have the shelf space for something else. That nook in the kitchen looks like a great spot for some kind of storage piece. Either a really lovely buffet table or something similar (super tall shelves with bins?). You can hide linens, out of season clothes, extra dishes, pantry items, blankes, etc in there. Your new living room looks a bit bigger so perhaps get an ottoman with storage? Think outside the box with your vertical space! I had a cousin who lived in a 250 sq foot studio and she put an Ikea wardrobe on top of her fridge to store out of season clothes. You might not have a linen closet - but can you store the linens in all that kitchen space? Best of luck! Can't wait to see more!

What a nice new apartment and this video is just beautifully filmed. When I lived in a place that had a tiny bedroom and couldn't fed a dresser, I used an over the door hanging plastic clear shoe rack. I didn't use it for shoes I used it for everything else belts, Socks, gloves et cetera. It was tacky looking but you couldn't see it if the door was open against the wall. It was very easy to use and stay organized. Another option is a tiny narrow corner room triangular tall shelf. Not sure how you'd find one but they are a nice looking piece of furniture and allow you to walk around the corner of your bed without bumping it. Hope that helps

We have a bedroom just wide enough for our bed and we put lintils - the square open box style, like a mounted cube, instead of bedside tables. We also had beautiful light fittings wired in, as we love to read in bed. Then we put higher shelving on both sides, for sweaters and jeans, anything foldable. Thanks so much for the tour; my husband did grad school there (we’re Australian) and he gets so misty and sentimental about Canada. He loved seeing this.

I agree with the lift up bed for linens, as for the dresser, we put it in the center of the closet so we could open and close the drawers (we had to remove the door and put it back to do so), then we raised the bar a touch so shirts, folded pants etc would fit and long dresses to either side as the dresser did not take the entire width of the closet.

Lovely apartment! I'm a Torontonian living in Brittany, France, but when I lived in apartments in TO, I used a three bin metal unit on wheels inside my closet for extra space. 30 odd years later, my son used it in his apartment in Brittany while he was away at school! It was bought at a storage unit store at Royal York and Dundas in Etobicoke (not sure if it's still there). We have also put drawer units into our closet in our house in Toronto, which worked well. Now I live in a house with no closets whatsoever, so chests of drawers and armoires are what we use.

I don’t know what your exact bedroom measurements are but we had one thin nightstand on my husbands side by the window and the dresser on my side against the wall that I used partially as a night stand as well. Maybe your space is too narrow for that but that’s how we fit everything in our bedroom. Also if you get those hanging over the door organizers from Canadian tire (similar to the fabric shoe ones) those are great for the laundry closet. Hope that helps!!

Ikea has bed with under bed drawers, you can use those but then you probably won't be able to have night stands because nightstands will block the drawer and you can't open it. Then instead of nightstands, you can use cubes or shelfs that can be mounted on the wall. This will give you some storage next to bed without blocking the drawer.

Cute apartment. I think you could put your dresser in your den/office and just put it against that door that leads to the bathroom if you wanted to block one entrance for it. Definitely have under bed storage and maybe add another shelf above the shelf in the closets for sweater storage. The nook in the kitchen could be used with a bench and then a rectangle dining table and that could also be used as another prep/ counter space. Just ideas. Can’t wait to see the way you furnish it. Congratulations on your move. ❤

This new space looks like a challenge to work with, but I'm eager to see how you'll maximize your storage- and especially since I'll be renting my first ever apartment in the middle of next year! 😊🏠

🏡 congratulations!! ❤ I hope the move goes/went smoothly!! We put our bed on top of a platform that has drawer storage. We have cats that loved to scratch the underside of the box spring so that solved it. Maybe that idea will help?
