MINIMALISM » Habits to STOP doing today (Save money & live better) // Let's get inspired and talk about minimalist living, and how you can simplify your life, spend less, save more, and be happier.
In this video, I talk about habits that we could stop doing to start simple living. As you may know, I love sharing minimalism tips on the channel, and of course minimalism and money saving are a great combination. But it's not everything. Minimalist living can also help us to save time, energy, space. We can not only declutter our home and declutter our space, but also our mind and our heart. And that's where the magic REALLY happens, if you ask me. :)
Intentional living can inspire us with how to stop spending money on things we don't need, and minimalist habits can help with that a lot. I've shared many things i dont buy on this channel, but never have I really sat down and talked about the habits behind the actions. And that's what today's video is all about.
So, no list of what I stopped buying today, but a list of what I stopped doing. Of course as always, not all of these points may resonate with everyone, so take what you can use and leave the rest. :)

It's already my default mode, it's funny in comparison with my mother for example, she often buys things because she might need them in the future, especially when these things are on sale. I don't really see the point of that unless I'm sure I will use it often in the future (e.g. I won't buy a drill, I do have screwdrivers though).

Organize your dressers. 5. Organize your closet. 6. Clean your furniture. 7. Clean my walls, windows, fan, vents. 8. Vaccum and spray something that smells good :)

It is not selfish to choose yourself, so you don't have to put yourself last or you don't need any excuses to put yourself first. Only thing you need to do is to treat others the way you want to be treated. Then, you will be fine. I also like decluttering contents you talked about. In fact, I stopped subscribing satellite TV 3 years ago. I save so much money from not watching sat TV anymore. I am also happy to drop contents made by mainstream media because their news are so biased. I don't trust their abilities to tell news fairly since the US election of 2016. Because I get some extra time, I am able to find so many good contents from KZread. Your channel is one of them.

Hey Vera!! Here is what I have as goals for this year: - Created a wardrobe capsule - content: Pinterest feeds only focused on simple living, minimalism, and keto diet - main focus is my health! I just recovered from pneumonia and that was an eye opener on that I need to stop putting myself last - created a solid budget plan, impulse buying is done! - made a planner to help me time manage (work/life balance) and to focus more time spent with my husband - continue the declutter battle. It’s improving!

♥️♥️♥️ Thank you for addressing some of the mental health related issues that can interfere with minimalism such as feeling insecure or unhappy, or watching content that might be contributing to discontent. It’s important that we take care of our own needs and well-being. Feeling the need to uphold an image or seem impressive can slowly create a lot of wear and tear on our heart. Self love and self acceptance are so important. A huge thank you for these reminders. May 2020 be the year of peace, clarity, and fulfillment for all. Sincere gratitude for all you do. Your videos just get better and better ♥️

Thanks for another great video, Vera! There’s a lot to think about here. The one that really struck a chord for me was the “don’t bring something into your life just because it’s free” (paraphrasing) one. When buying something new, I adopted the idea to get rid of something of equal value. It has helped me to stop buying stuff. I needed some new pans so I am going to get rid of the old ones. 3. Stop consuming conten that does not add value to my life. I am so encouraged now to clean up my subscriptions here in KZread. So many I watch mindlessly. I just subscribed to your channel because minimalism and intentional living are my goals this year in many areas of my life. I started a lot of these last year but 2020 will continue with these mindsets. 4. Dont check your phone everytime you are bored. This too I started last year. It has freed me of so much time to just enjoy where I am and being more intentional. My phone does not rule my life. I pick it up to look up stuff or watch stuff to be encouraged. 7. Busyness....I am over that. Learning to enjoy living by life and think, process instead of being so busy that I cant think. 10. Stop hanging out with toxic people. Yeeeees!! Certain people drain me so I am careful around these kind of people.

I grew up with my mom having slight hoarding tendencies. She never kept trash or anything, but she has always just piled things up and stacked things around each other (especially in the garage, where it would always look like the hoarder shows, boxes and stuff stacked almost to the ceilings at some parts.) Any drawer/closet/cabinet was always full and never well organized. I finally convinced her to let me take the burden off her and to go through everything, because in the end, it can’t go to the grave and she finally has realized this fact. I have now (through the past year and a half) worked through most of her collection of clutter and only have kept the most beautiful, useful and sentimental pieces. Our garage we can finally park 2 cars in! I have never had this in the past and it feels wonderful to let go of this clutter that has been haunting my mom and I for 20 years. Thank you for constant inspiration, Vera. The journey to minimalism is difficult, but I’ve been enjoying seeing the results immensely:)

When I first began minimalism I had way to much stuff. I was so bad at staying organized and clean. I would hoard things and keep things I didn't need. Its take me a year of baby steps to finally get to a point all my stuff can fit into closet easily. If I wanted to move out it would take less than a hour to pack my things. I beat myself up alot at first because I wasnt making progress quickly, but this is something you adapt to.

Buying things that are only necessary or that I need or enjoy, for example my beach badges, stuff needed for the home, thrift shop clothes when needed , use stuff til it runs out ie makeup, beauty products etc. Plus reading more and getting through the many books i have and not buying more or accepting more books until i get my volume of books way down. I'm trying to set myself a challenge for 2020 as to how long I can go without spending money on things I don't need. I really want to save more money and so am really trying to think how I part with cash. With books I tend to borrow them from people or if I own them I buy second hand and then pass them on to someone else so my living space isn't cluttered. Unless I absolutely love the story/subject and will reread it again and again I don't keep them. It's just a waste of living space. Shoes I keep for years and years until they break and I avoid buying more shoes by buying a pair that will go with a multitude of outfits. I probably buy a new pair once every 6 years if that.

I am in the middle of moving from my studentdrom to my parentshouse. Everytime I would visit my parents, I would bring something from my dorm like books, clothing, assecoires etc, Things I didnt need right away. The reason for this was to make the day I planned on moving a bit more comfortable. It isnt just packing all your stuff, its also unpacking all your stuff and placing it in the right place, and my doing what I could to minimilise this burden, the easier it would be. As I looked at my dormroom I felt proud that I was able to move so much already, but also a bit more calm. My room was chaos and by taking action over that chaos, I had control. I really enjoyed that, to not be moved allong by my own envirement but instead being able to take charge of the situation. So yeah, Minimalism is a really helpfull way to declutter your own personal space, and by doing so declutter your own mind. Couple of tips if you want a less cluttered room 1. Clean your room ( Duh) 2. Put things in boxes, avoid open closets 3. If you dont use something and dont really need it, sell it and make some money, or give it to good will

Happy 2020 Vera. I was taking a break from youtube. I have been culling my wardrobe & shoes this month - bringing in, donating & keeping amounts to no more than 7 pcs of each category. Except coats & jackets. I FINALLY know & understand my loves & comfort of clothing & shoes. I literally just went through my YT subscriptions before watching this vid! I am continuing into 2020 in my minimalism journey. We now only buy groceries for the week, instead of buying food just because. And I am REALLY going to try to stop drinking soda again & go back to drinking my love of tea.

thank you for another great video. I find it difficult in our modern society to keep my boundaries. I feel as if you dont work (or dont have an appointment with GP) than you need to be available anytime especially for another work and people dont understand you cannot come {as they want} just because you want to have some quiet time. I feel the work is the most imporant thing in this century for most of the people. I value my life more. and my work is not my life (or not all).

Hi, I m starting a no buy year in cosmetics all categories, clothes, accessories, alcohol (I m not addict), restaurants for the more important... I started last year, alcohol was OK, restaurant also, I started to 1 per month to 0, clothes was better but low buy, cosmetics was a fail, but I made inventory, declutter and that was a start... I made my inventory declutter shoes also very useful! This year I add accessories and delivery pizza. I just want to enjoy my stuff and continue the process of declutter for clothes... I also want to take care of me better with health, check, etc... For pictures, I love making pictures, and I post what I want even if I know that some people will not like, I don't care, and I ve never bought something to be better or like the others, I ve always hate that... I don't like competition... Thanks for your video, tips for no buy could be usefull? Its very difficult to start... Sorry for my long mess and my English, I m French.. Sophie from Paris France

My main purpose for decluttering (again) is the fact that as a student I live in 2 places and constantly moving things from one to another is exhausting both physically and emotionally. Less to have less to worry! I start to learn that I don't need all of my bellonging with me, so maybe I don't need them at all? My rule of the year is to buy things that will really add value not only to my life but also our planet- no animal-tested products, no clothes from sweat shops, no single use things, etc. It's usually harder to find them and takes some time so by doing that I can verify if I really needed/wanted them or was it just a whim ;)

I have the hardest time not being on FB and so 3 and 4 are the worst for me. 😫 It’s not for the endless scrolling that most people probably struggle with. I advocate for bird health and every time I open FB, there’s always some question to answer and I can’t give answers halfway, so there are sooo many details to write down. So many people don’t know. If I walk away from my phone for three hours or more, I come back and FB notifications are at 9+ again. It’s crazy! I’ve been working on number 9 as well. If I like something but don’t love it, I may use it as a white elephant gift. If I’m tempted to take something just because there’s no dollar sign on it, I pause and evaluate whether or not I need it. And I’m purging things from my home I don’t absolutely love and/or don’t use actively. :) Thanks for the video!

Thanks for sharing Leah! :) Maybe a good idea could be to think about the max amount of time you want to spend on FB in a day, and set an alarm for that time. I know youtube has that option, I'm thinking FB will have it as well. Or, let's say it's an hour, set aside an hour in your day when you're doing it, so that the rest of the day you can keep it away. And of course choosing which notifications to switch off :) I actually didn't know what a white elephant gift was haha but when I looked it up, I realized we have something similar here in the Netherlands :D

My goal this year is to save up more money because we want to buy a house. (You, being Dutch, probably know how insanely hard that is nowadays..) Next to saving up I am decluttering a LOT and starting a more minimal lifestyle. But I also made it a goal to notice the moments where I do want to buy something, then ask if it is really needed and if not: put it back AND transfer the amount it would've cost straight into my savings account.

I get gifts that I always end up donating. I tell my family I would rather have gift cards. Friends do the same. I can’t seem to hurt their feeling. I like the idea of our homes letting us know what it needs. Sometimes something will pop up and ends up being the best thing and it stays. I have had flu bug the past copy of weeks. I am going to start challenge as soon as I get back on feet! Thank you for always giving beautiful and wise inspirations!😘

Hi Vera I really value my time but it does pass by quicker as you get older ? So it’s taken me longer than you but I’m finally making sure I’m not last on the list anymore this is my time ❤️ and watching and learning from you is a part of it 🤗

Simple Happy Zen I really mean it. I admire you and your personality so much. I know you are planning to do a video on being less busy and having more free time but I feel like I have the opposite problem i.e. bit too much free time and don’t know how to fill it meaningfully. If you get a chance, would love to see a video on that with your thoughts and tips. Have a great day ❤️
