Mini-Z 4x4 Motor Upgrade and Neo Magnet Swap!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I upgrade my Mini-Z 4x4 with a beefy PN Racing motor meant for the SCX24. PN Racing is well known for their high quality Mini-Z hop up parts and it’s no surprise that this motor works great in the 4x4. Swapping the standard ceramic magnets for neodymium upgrades makes it a torque beast!
UPDATE: After changing to the PN Racing magnets, the "cogging" issue is much better and still has plenty of torque and low-speed control. Highly recommend the PN Racing magnets or other similar slim magnets.

Absolutely enjoyed the upgrade. Just got myself the Furitek upgrade package for my 2 mini z 4x4s. Changes battery to LiPo and a ESC and Bluetooth card too. Cost an arm and a leg. 😢 Not a KZreadr. But will post the end result of the build here for you to see…Guess in a month or so.

This was a great, and educational video! If you’re looking for ideas for testing / comparing the stock electronics with the upgrades, maybe compare how much weight they can push / pull?

I'm amazed at the replacement magnets. It's a great idea. I recently installed a Furitek Lizard and brushless motor to my Mini-z4x4. It can crawl slower but has the problem of less torque. However, I was able to get it running fast, so I'm happy about that. I'm looking for a good motor.

Thanks! So far I'm really happy with this motor, but brushless sounds like a great option too. Maybe try gearing way down to a 7 or 8 tooth pinion? That should get you quite a bit more torque than the stock gearing.

@@mattynice740 Thanks for the tip. I used stock 10 tooth pinion. I'll try to find 7 or 8 pinion.

Very nice, and educational video! If you’d like some ideas for comparing upgrades to stock - maybe comparing how much weight it can push / pull? I know my stock Mini Z 4x4 can’t push nearly as much as my SCX24.

Finally I've been waiting for someone to make a video on this, I'm using the 70turn with the stock pinion for a little more speed. Went with a more stock trail truck build instead of a true crawler

@@mattynice740 highly recommend the nb4 with mini z fhss module to solve your throttle dead zone. I had to tune the exponential because the 70t constantly wants to go fast and suffers from huge loss of low speed control

Was wondering how the mod has held up? Did you keep it modded? Did you see a lot of improvement? Thanks for the video. Very educational.

Good video! Question can you show us how well it dose over the stock one ( Performance test). If you go to kenon it has warnings about using the pinion gear. But will not show mini z 4x4 only scx 24.

Great info. Just goty into the Z platform, myself. I didn't know the magnets could be swapped, that's deep modding! I'm interested in trying to find out how to get a stronger servo in mine. Any thoughts?

They include the correct pair, one of each pole. So does the aliexpress version, but I bought two pairs of those and mixed them up.

Hey man, i have the brass front knuckles, front diecast axle, the alum front join set & weighted wheels. Now the servo is having a lot of trouble steering the wheels. How did you tackle this issue? I just had to remove some weight for it to steer correctly

I recently switched to running Li-ion batteries. No mod needed, you just use 2 li-ion batteries and 2 dummy cells. Way less battery weight which helps everything and the increased voltage increases the steering power a lot. Hope that helps!

@@mattynice740yeah can you link to what is needed? Will the added power and weight of this setup burn out the servo? I decided not to get the weighted wheels so I could keep my servo less stressed.

I’d bet you messed up something with the brushes. They’re very fragile. Try taking it apart again and checking those
