Same thing used to happen with my Land Rover Discovery. Even worse if you park on an incline with the sunroof drain blocked and at the high point as the water spills out of the tray all over the headlining. Stupid design! Thanks for a great and clear video.

Having the same issue with my 2011 countryman but I have no sunroof. I suspect during my latest trip to the mechanic they failed to re attache the tube from the hood drain. Will give it a try as shown in the video. And yes, i see many videos here that were not correct. Hopefully I found the problem, thanks for posting this.

I went to BMW, their solution is to replace the sunroof for an astronomical price. Not only is expensive but the wait for the shipment is about 2 months. Thanks for the insight, I will check this.

Well sir u just saved me a ton of money. We were getting ready to take it to the dealer to trouble shoot this. Could not for the life of me figure this out. Tube was COMPLETELY off. Reinstalled the tube and not a drop of water now. A million thank yous.

Recent problem with mine, happened when sunroof left open by mistake. Did the job wheel on full lock. Sacrificed one clip for a fix well done. Hats off Mate, great post. So many rain channels to keep clean!

Thank you for sharing. All the way from the U.S. South Carolina. Does that little part/piece have a name lol? Currently experiencing the same problem and was advised the same thing (sunroof drain clogging). Before taking it to the dealership, I would like to try & clean the little piece myself.

Brilliant! success...a whole load of leaves and muddy water was stuck at the bottom of the drain. I was able to access the rubber grommet (without removing the wheel btw) and clear it with some careful garden wire rogering 🙂...all the drains flow nicely now so fingers crossed, no more soaking carpets! thanks for your helpful posting 👍

First and foremost I’m sorry you experienced this issue but I am so grateful you documented the real fix!! I’m in South Florida and the Mini dealer wanted 210.00 to diagnose this issue. My pool of water is in the rear footwell behind the passenger seat. Is there another drainage pipe that would cause that area to leak?

Hey Kevin. The rear of the sunroof also has a drain which exits by the hinges of the rear boot. Look in the top right corner. It’s unlikely to be this. The water in the rear footwell simply moves from front to back when you drive around. It will definitely be the 2 front drain hoses. My car has been repaired and bone dry for over a year now. Hope you get it sorted. Cheers

1. the sunroof drain. 2. the 4-5 clips on the exterior trim missing their foam washer seals. 3. is there a drain in the battery tray that when clogged, water goes to thru the ingress to the blower?

Hi, thanks for your comment, i can only say i'm NOT a mechanic but it's now been 12 months since i did this video and my Mini hasn't leaked since. Good luck with your repair.

I cleaned the lower drain and the water gates opened. Thank you!! Question regarding how this could Be effecting water getting inside footwell. If it backs up where is it going? Trying to understand is all. Thanks

If you open the sunroof and look from above the car you’ll see the water sitting along the sides which then overflows into the headliner…

Mine leaks like a sieve and it doesn’t have a sunroof!

I would check the rubber/silicone gasket around your antenna. I bought a tube of silicone gasket maker and sealed mine back up.

My leak turned out to be the driver’s door seal but I’ll keep that in mind for the future, thanks.
