Automotive sunroof care and maintenance.
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
How to clear, clean, and take care of a modern automotive sunroof system. The car in the video is a 2013 Mini Cooper, however the design is fairly basic with most modern factory, clear glass sunroof systems.
Using just a few simple products and items you may have around the house this simple DIY guide shows you how to make sure the roof stays functional for years to come, and prevents leaks inside the vehicle.

Finally found DIY video thay actually is very helpful on cleaning and maintaining car sunroof 😊
Thanks a lot! This has to be the most comprehensive vid on sunroof maintenance. Now I know why my son’s old vw had flooded footwells all the time… This will help with keeping the sunroof in my new Mazda 3 clean and functioning. Great stuff!
This is fantastic. I too have a Mini Cooper, and I’m going to get my sunroof in tip-top shape. Thanks so much. Love the dry humor! 🤣
Thank you so much! My new-to-me 2013 Mini had wet floorboards and my automotive guy mentioned the drains and very quickly told me how to avoid paying him clear them. (nice of him) Thanks also for mentioniong not to open the roof when frozen temps are present. Oh, and the picture showing where to lube and the close-ups of the best protducts! So awesome!!! Your video is like having a big brother who is a great teacher to 'show me the ropes' on my moonroof maintenance. Your video is an answer to prayer.
Today I have cleaned & greased my Pajero sunroof after watching this video. I have used alcohol tissue & baby wipes for cleaning. Great video. Thank you
Nicely done, demonstrated, and explained! Thank you for sharing this!!
Take a toothbrush heat the handle just below the head and bend 90º hold that angle till it cools. You will end up with a right angle brush. Take a second toothbrush heat bend 90º and turn to the side, for a right angle side facing brush.

I'm very glad I found this video, very instructive and straight to the point! Thanks for it!
Great thorough video on caring and maintaining your sunroof !
beautiful video. got a car with sunroof, will use this guide routinely
Great video, love the birds from the background.
A technique I use is with Baby wipes. Damp wipes will collect dirt very efficiently. To reach in crevices, I wrap a wipe around a gas card or something larger to wipe inside a channel. I camp a lot and use these wipes for many uses. To "man up" the packaging, I bought a plastic plano 30 cal ammo can. It has a rubber seal to keep the moisture from evaporating.
Wow, that is really helpful, and very easy to understand. Thanks a lot!
Great video! I bought my Chevy Malibu last summer and this info will help me keep my sunroof working great!!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank You!!

Absolute best & most instructive video on automatic sunroofs! Thanks a ton for sharing the information! I really wonder what VW were doing collecting all this money from service on something you can check yourself! ;)
Thanks for this - necessary, new information for me.
Well detailed. Thank you.
Awesome detailed video, thank you! Was just looking for a regular maintenance guide for my Mini's sunroof and this is perfect!

Steve! Thanks so much for your kind words! YES, We will absoultly be doing more shoots once this COVID BS is over, and we new EVs and Hybrids at the school now. Thanks! Stay well!
attention to detail! And yet you don´t have that OCD we dislike. Laid back! I will also get going on my Benz now and follow your rational of discernment between rails, tracks and gutter. It´s all a matter of logic!
i worked at an audi dealer and there we use wurth HHD 2000. it's a very sticky grease in a can. i hope thats good too
A german Produkt Gummi pflege Stift 😂🎉❤ deutsche Produkte sind auch nicht schlecht 😅😂
Stellar job on video. You know your sunroofs man! I have a 2003 Montero Limited. My sunroof stuck fully open 3 years ago. Opened fine and then it wouldn't budge to close a couple of hours later. I had one person pull on the glass as I cycled the button on and off because it would move about 1/2" at a time that way, but only if a person tugged forward on the glass as I switched the switch on and off in forward position. So I got it 98% closed, but it doesn't go upward and entirely seal fully closed. That was 3 years ago. What do you think the problem is?

Well, these are always hard to determine over the web, but if I were a betting man either something is stuck in the tracks, it needs major lube, or a cable is broken. All of which would involve opening it back up, and possibly dropping the headliner to take the unit out. With the motor cover off, you may be able to manually see if you can wind it (carefully.)
Top tip- if your sunroof is acting up, keep it shut!
Use dry lube or your just gonna get a bunch of stuff stuck to the grease! Then it will have a harder time sliding with dust and debris in the tracks.
Hi Dan, great video...have u consider to use mini air compressor to clean up dust, branch, leaf, etc around the rail..? thanks

I do not like to use compressed air at all. I have seen them blow apart brittle tubes and connections internal to the body structure. The weed-whacker line is the universally accepted "safest way" by all makers now.

The commenter validate video..nylon string can't handle.
To clean the gunk easily, mix 1 part dish soap 1 part hair conditioner 10 parts of water Shake hard (in a bottle)
that was great. how about for a simpler sunroof, like on a 2011 Ford Fusion?

Sunroofs are the same basic design for all cars. While the shapes and parts wont fit with each other, the overall idea is the same for every automaker.
Mini has been sitting for about a year and when I went to open the panoramic roof I hear the mechanism activate however, it doesn’t open. What would you suggest.

Ouch I would start by inspecting the motor (its behind the upper console). it sounds like the sunroof cassette may be damaged (cables and so on)
Hi there, I do have a r55 with the opening sunroof and the right hand side drain is probably clogged up and not letting water flow down… I’m not so confident in taking apart the headliner to check if that plastic hose is disconnected, do you have any other suggestions to free the tube? I am worried that using compressed air I may disconnect the plastic piece and get water everywhere inside

I really need SOMEONES EXPERTISE HERE. I WAS ALL SET TO BUY 95 MONTE CARLO UNTIL I SAW IT DOESN'T HAVE A SUNROOF AND I REALLY DIG THIS CAR, SO CAN YOU PUT ONE IN, A GOOD ONE THATS BIG AND POPS UP AND SLIDES ALL THE WAY OPEN? IF YOU GET BACK TO ME RIGHT AWAY I WILL STILL CONSIDER BUYING THIS CAR, AS LONG AS IT GETS A NICE WIDE OPEN SUNROOF. PLEASE TELL ME WHERE WE CAN DO THIS AND HOW MUCH IT COSTS, PLEASE. I LIVE IN Ohio

If I don't get back to him before the wknd it'll be sold to someone else and I'm really trying to figure this out so I can buy it. Please send me your info if you can offer this at a reasonable price asap so I don't lose out on this great car, ty vm
Mr blue jay😂
of course it's a mini. notorious sunroof issues 😂
I have seen your video but you are scraping with metal on metal of plastic. This will damage the aluminum leaving scratches. Those scratches can fill up with debris also.

"metal on metal of plastic" ? I'm not sure what you're trying to convey here "scraping" is a harsh word, obviously I'm not touching it deeply enough to leave scratches.
is this for all cars or just the mini
@danjreed

All cars more or less, I used the Mini as an example.
Do you degrease first, then grease, then lubricate?
