Mini Greenhouse and Baby Bunnies

Two VERY exciting things have happened on the homestead this week. We built a mini green house or can also be called a cold frame. I am changing how I am starting seedlings this year. I am wanting to plant as many things outside as I possibly can to avoid having to "harden off' seedlings... which is not my favorite thing. AND we have the first babies born on the homestead. It was a magical and exciting experience. Kanarra our doe, has been a great mother so far and hope she can keep up the good work!
Welcome to our High Desert Homestead where we inspire the dreamers to make big plans in small spaces! We have lived in four different U.S. States over the past eight years. In that time I learned to cook from scratch, bake with sourdough, and grow gardens wherever we lived. I grew blueberry bushes at a rental where I couldn’t “garden,” I grew tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, beets, radishes and flowers on our apartment balcony, I grew herb gardens in sunny window sills, and began my journey towards growing our homestead on our one acre property here in the high desert.
Let’s learn and grow together wherever we are on our homestead journey!

All of your projects are moving right along. With less snow this winter, more time to prep for spring. The baby bunnies are so cute. I remember our family raising rabbits; and the Moms fur and straw sure does keep them warm.

Congratulations on the new additions to your homestead. I bet the kids are all anxious to get to hold one. Looks like the mama is doing a good job taking care of them. Your cold frame is looking great. My thoughts on cold frame for the opening on the ends caused by the ribs is maybe some expanding spray foam used for insulation. You would have to have something to allow only for it to just fill the openings but not get into the inside. Not sure if it would adhere to the plastic and stay in place when it hardens or not. Another suggestion might be if you have any packing styrofoam around to cut pieces the shape of the ends of the ribs and glue them in place. I haven't ever tried either of these for this type of application but it might work.

I did consider the spray foam stuff!
