MINI Cooper S Oil Change R50 R53 1st gen

It's important to change the oil on your MINI Cooper. So here's how to change the oil and replace the oil filter on the MINI Cooper S R53 and / or R50. The R50 might take slighly less oil, start with 4.5 quarts and see what it looks like on the dipstick. The R53 takes 5 quarts. There should be a sticker in the engine bay that tells you what kind of oil to use in your MINI Cooper S. If not, just look in your owner's manual for the chart I showed in the video, and you can decide what oil is best for your MINI Cooper based on the climate where you live. Yes you can change brands in your MINI, but if you're topping off you should top off with the same brand.

Good job. Thank you so much. You just helped a 60 yr old woman change her oil on her Mini. So grateful😊

I recommend to anyone doing this to (thoroughly clean) the threading of the oil filter housing. Last thing you want is for the old oil to compromise the seal and/or the new o-ring you just placed. Your risking leaking oil by not cleaning threading of the oil filter housing as well as the threading where the oil filter housing gets screwed on to.

Oil Changers will not do an oil change on my 2005 S because of the risk of breaking the turbo cooler line. They said if I brought the spare part in they would do it. I guess the line is fragile and if you break it the car needs to be towed for repair. Thanks to your video, I might try to dit myself.

did my first oil change this weekend, not fun.mostly because fucking december in europe and mud is everywhere after snowing during week and above zero on weekend. Plastic cover covering the bottom was held by every imaginable screw type and zip ties so that was a bother doing it in mud. Got to oil filter stage and realized I cant loosen it. So just did oil change. Aliexpress oilfilter tool ordered, and putting the fucking bottom plastic cover back was major pain in the ass and two screws left from someplace. Fucking hell, must be day and night doing it in a garrage on a lift with comfort and visibility...

Try searching up topside oil change on Mini Cooper and purchase the Mityvac, that way you won’t have to raise the vehicle off the ground and remove oil drain plug. Less mess and saves time. 👍🏼

@@TruckerUncleBoy bought ramps so getting up comfortably is super fast, learned how the plastic cover holds and where and with what and now can put it back in 5 minutes, bought that 74mm oil adapter for filter that makes 15min struggle in to 30 seconds smooth ratcheting... started to use brain and did oil change in nice, warm, dry, august. Well another story is that this year I went for my manual transmission oil change, and again, first timers issues. Special huge hex for filling hole, special M14 12-point hollow socket... then I used not ideal oil going only by specs - 75w90 and shifting went worse... then reading more about the fact that OEM while claiming 75w90 is actually so much thinner. Trying VW G70 and its so much better...
