Ming Jiang Zhu 925 Review

The best instrument that you can purchase at Fiddlershop. The Spruce for this instrument is Italian and the Maple from Bosnia, all seasoned for a minimum of 10 years (air dried). The quality of the wood is so special that the company can only make 20 a year. The only masters who work on these instruments are the ones who have been making violins for the workshop a minimum of 10 years. We are extremely happy with the result.

This violin is pure crystal. I came to know just a while ago that Ming Jiang Zhu is no more, but his family continues the work maintaining his high standards. His instruments are all magnificent!

I'm so glad they've decided to carry on. Would of been such a waste of talent if they didn't although I would of totally respected there choice if they choose not to build anymore. I'll be in touch in a couple of months for one of those violins. As I'm from the UK what the phone number to get in contact with you guys? Because I used the one off your site and it didn't work. Then I realised I needed the + bit at the beginning

xdlegion Yes indeed. There are so many great luthiers, makers at that workshop and they all need work. They produce an enormous amount of instruments. Of course they don't make that many 925's but there are many models.

It's good for the health even to hear the clarity of this sound. I pledge IF there is a 909 with identical quality of sound, I'll find a way to purchase it! But there's no way i could afford a 925.

Yes we do. I would say that most of them do. This was an unusually bright sounding MJZ925. Might have been a Strad version.

@@likeworldlikeworld2485 I see. about 6 months ago we switched studios. We've switched mics about 4 times over the years and this latest one is a high quality shot-gun mic but not a studio mic. We had a period where we used a very expensive matched pair (don't remember the name) mics that we ended up selling since they were not practical. Also, KZread compresses both video and audio, more than what we do before uploading. Other than those issues, I don't know what it could be.

  • @1stfiddlerman

So we have spoken to the owner of the workshop where the Ming Jiang Zhu's are made and his reply was that they choose their favorite MJZ925 when someone orders a MJZ930. They no longer make that specifically. Since we buy so many MJZ (Noble Heart Workshop) violins, we are treated very well and get top of the line instruments from them. I have played and tested quite a few of the MJZ925's and can tell you that they are better. The differences are subtle but as a professional, you can tell. They sing more and are easier to play. All the MJZ line instruments are remarkable for the cost and I always recommend them highly. Thanks for watching.

@@wckoek - That is a great question. With Scott Cao for example, we are selling the actual bench made ones for 25,000 and those two guys are very similar. They were friends and even studied together. They both won numerous competitions in the VSA violin making competition which is very tough. Problem is that Scott Cao only makes like 8 a year and there is a waiting list. We managed to pick up 4 of his so far and they are easy enough to sell.

Thomas Northfield Good question. It's the "Marche Miniature Viennoise", Fritz Kreisler. I played about a quarter of the piece. It's way more interesting with the piano accompaniment. The thing which is most difficult for me when doing demo's is to come up with something to play and I just happened to have a Kreisler book on a music stand at the time of this demo. :)

xdlegion They are still making equally great violins carrying on the teachings and methods of Ming Jiang Zhu. The new supervisor is Mr Wei-Xian Zhu who is a student of MJZ's for 20 years and his brother in law. Mr Wei-Xian Zhu has won two medals at the VSA competition. We haven't noticed any difference in the quality of the instruments that we have received since Ming Jiang Zhu's passing.
