Minelab Equinox 600 Field Test Part 1

I borrow Ace’s Nox 600 for a test drive! So tough picking up a new machine with zero experience. Part 1 is 3 days of digging. It was very educational and of course a lot of fun and frustration. Should I switch machines???

I've had my nox600 for 2 years now, I've used other detectors that are good, but this nox600 is a beast to me. Found deeper older coins at places I know we're hunted several times by others and myself. I've taken it to areas in the woods where I felt I wouldn't find anything and came out with relics/old coins. 98 silvers in 1 season.

The Equinox is a very powerful machine...600 & 800. That said, to harness that power takes time to learn all the nuances of the machine. I spent the better part of 2019 getting acquainted with my 600, and it seemed like one day it just all came together like an epiphany moment. It’s a great machine, and even better when someone takes the time to apply what’s in the manual from the beginning to the end. My suggestion is to learn each mode, and try each mode on the same patch of ground to see what difference it makes. I’m a relic hunter and primarily hunt in Field 2 for greater depth. Recovery speed also controls depth, and you can gain depth by LOWERING the recovery speed. BUT, when you lower the recovery speed, you must slow down your swing as well to get the most from the machine. Lots to learn, but once you learn the machine, it will become your favorite. I own the 600 and the 800, and they both are capable of the identical depth. I own all three coils, with the 6” staying on my 600, the 11” on the 800, and the 15” used occasionally for large areas with little trash to cover more ground. If the 15” got stolen, I really wouldn’t even miss it. Good luck. The Equinox is not for people who like turn on and go machines like the Garrett machines. They take time to learn. I sold my Garrett AT Max and 5x8 coil, and don’t regret it at all. JMHO, YMMV

Great info! Thank you so much! Do you just get used to the pinpoint sound? So far, it’s my least favorite thing. I know time will make the ultimate difference in learning the settings and nuances. But that pinpointer! It’s hard to listen to!

Hey Randy, ive been running the 600 since last Sept. My advice for starting out, park 1. Recovery speed 3,iron bias 3. 5 tones,Noise cancel, ground balance. If you wanna set it up to relic hunt,Field 2,recovery 3, iron bias zero, 2 tones . Dont be afraid to creep the coil along, low and slow.Happy Hunting👍🏻

We hunted a SE Missouri site that had a Cav camp and this field just keeps giving great finds. First time out using the Nox 800 and we found bullets, buttons, and silver. @@sixdaymetaldetecting1776 I agree. This is a good detector at “turn-on-and-go”. After using for a while then start adjusting setting and learning how to max out for particular situations. I usually recommend starting with Park 1, 5 tones, recovery speed of 3 , and Fe at 3. If a coin hunter start by accepting 13, then 20 and above. Again this is just to get started and learn……and just one opinion.
