Daedalus is the name of a Greek mythological architect and craftsman(a mortal man not a god) that made the maze that the Minotaur was trapped within. Additionally he is the father of Icarus who later died because of the wax wings his father created had melted when they came too close to the sun. The hammer being named after them makes sense as not only did Daedalus make the Maze(thus it makes sense that it's one of the only things that could break it down), but he was well-known for being able to make statues so life-like that they looked as if they were moving. As for why he's referenced in a hammer... one of a sculptor's main tools is a hammer... otherwise that's all I have(he is credited for the invention of axes, saws, glues, and other such carpentry tools as well as the practice of carpentry itself).
