something i can say off the bat is that maybe rivers should start spawning above sea level, i'm not sure if you can do that, but the valleys would get annoying sometimes, and it would add some waterfalls to the world other than that. mojang is doing an amazing job with this update. this will totally be worth the wait

I love those arches, but especially the caves going off visibly from the water into a mountain.. it looks so inviting to explore! If I wouldn't know this is the Caves & Cliffs update, I'd have thought this was a map, a worldsave, made manually with a terrain generator. I'm already in Love with it. Some Nostalgia memories of MC version 1.7 coming up for me at the moment. On a sidenote, had to chuckle you used that specific music when you showed the Meadow, it seemed like a personal touch, showing some of your character; I think you have to do with music in your private life actively, or at the very least super passionate about it :) Thank you for the video, I'll definitely check out the experimental client! So beautiful. I won't get tired of exploring my new world any time soon. Even things that look like they might be glitches (tiny bits of biome, like a single jungle tree and two stems of bamboo, or a wee patch of coral right off the shore) -- I am sort hoping that won't get fixed because those make my world even more unique, and it makes it possible to travel just via landmarks instead of always needing maps (or F3, which I don't like when immersing myself). It's also nice to encounter tiny biomes here and there so one doesn't necessarily have to travel thousands of blocks to get something biome-specific. I also really like the change to mob spawning; it will make lighting builds so much more creative if one no longer has to worry about creepers blowing up the nice room with the mood lighting, or the large redstone installation where one's overlooked that single block with light level 7. Considering how huge and interconnected the caves are, it'll still be a lot of work to light them up, but this goes quite some way towards balance. But yeah. Beautiful. I don't mind at all waiting til December for the full release if this is what we're getting. Thank you for continuing to make my favourite game even better.

From the looks of things, a big amount of the terrain looks super steep and mountainous and stuff. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore crazy terrain. It's just that it'd be cool for there to still be some smooth, flatter ground to go around as opposed to super rugged terrain for most of the land. Then again, it could very well still be the case that there's still plenty of smooth ground, since the whole thing with this video is to showcase the new, more extravagant terrain generation. Overall, I love the work you guys are doing and I'm so excited for Cave and Cliffs Part II. It looks awesome.

I love how Minecraft is constantly changing. It was small game 15 years ago. Now it's ever getting bigger and bigger. I really love how You made that terrain shape and biomes are the different factors, which makes the world more varying. Also I would love to see You introduce ICE/SNOW mountains and caves. Something like, when You are in snow biome and/or there is much snow at the surface, there is a chance that there is ice cave below with tons of ice blocks and maybe even new type of frozen blocks, so the ice caves won't be monotonous. Also, I would make something like... water in cold biomes should be giving a freezing effect. IF it's really super cold. The effect should be rather smaller than when being inside the puffy snow, but still so You shouldn't be there too long. And to counter this effect, the leather armor would help, but we should be getting new type of leather armor. With more fur, so it completely negates the freezing effect. If water is very cold, it should be freezing. Normal leather armor would slow it down, but leather armor with more warmth would be needed so You can completely get rid of that effect. Maybe even make so hoglins sometimes drop their fur and it can be used to make that armor!

Honestly, *this* is the spice up MC has needed for so long. The Iron Ore Veins will IMO offer an alternative to Iron Farms without nerfing them into the ground, whilst also just looking amazing. The Copper Veins will make it much easier to use Copper Blocks in builds. The new generation changes are beautiful. It's long been a complaint of the community that "once you've seen a biome once, you've seen it all". Now we can have incredible variation even within one biome - imagine a forest with a beautiful lake that is surrounded by wooded hills, or maybe even incredible windswept desert dunes. These theoretically from my understanding are now possible in MC. Also, the change to mob spawning is HUGE. It's a convenience change, sure, but it is going to allow for us to have much moodier lighting in our builds and make spawn proofing areas significantly easier. Mob farms got a whole lot easier to set up. And finally, the world height change is so good. Now I can build even taller monuments to my ego - I mean, more productive farms!

I think my biggest criticism is about the way new mountain biomes look compared to previous Bedrock betas. They kinda lack the epicness we saw earlier, they don't look as polished as before and they don't have as much realism. Looking at mountains in first betas i could say: wow, i can deffinately imagine seeing something like that in Alps region. It probably looks less epic because the terrain itself became more mountanious, so there is no contrast between usual simple terrain and gigantic mountains. My suggestion is to make this new terrain a bit more rare, so mountains would have more chance to appear near something simplistic and to replicate the polishing we saw in first Bedrock betas. Other than that, thanks for all the hard work and for being the best devs ever ^_^

Probably needs a buff to feather falling, especially for HC players. I would keep the dripstone biome at all levels, the lush biome maybe more towards the top layers / not in the deep layers. Deeper underground I'd like some underdark inspired biomes with glowing mushrooms & crystals, but also some more specific lava caverns (with actual lavafalls). I don't know if it is technically possible, but maybe biomes (over- and underground) could blend into each other when they're bordering, to create sort of a mixed terrain instead of having them cut harshly. Some overworld biomes could also affect the underground biomes, like icy or sandy caverns below deserts and snowy / ice biomes, or lots of flooded caverns below oceans. Rivers still seem to be getting cut off often. It would be nice if we could improve them in that aspect. Maybe you could also create an underground river biome, which could connect with overworld water sources too, either by flowing in or out of them, depending on where they are at. The old Streams mod did a lot of good stuff with custom terrain mods like Realistic Terrain Generation, and I'd love to see something similar in vanilla. I don't know if it is within the scope of this update, but I personally would love if the overworld would have larger / taller trees. And I don't mean new trees, but changing the old ones, to make them a) look a little better / more "authentic", and b) to passively buff horses a little bit, who really love more riding ON a forest, rather than through them (and their breeding / stats inheritance could finally be improved too). Loving the light level spawn change by the way, not even so much for cavern spawning, but for building with moody light conditions, instead of having everything super bright. Make's it so much easier to actually integrate light sources into the builds aesthetically too, instead of hiding them away.

Outstanding work like always. One of the interesting things found in the new generation is an shattered savanna intersecting with an ocean, being cutted out by the ocean, making an nice looking shore pillars, its probably not intended, but looks great. Aswell an rivers of variable y level would be glorious, but pain to code for sure.

  • @Taruyroiii

Absolutely magnificent and awesome. It's like a custom-built world! I have a couple of suggestions though: 1. Make a mountain biome that stretches up to around y256 or less (I find the mountains a bit too short) 2. Make rivers be able to spawn on higher elevations (Probably to create naturally occurring waterfalls) 3. Make some biomes flatter (Such as the desert biome and the plains biome) Overall, this is very exciting! You did an exceptional job!

this is what Minecraft's worldgen was meant to be edit: here's my long response I just wanna say, everything here is absolutely beautiful, I personally feel that Minecraft's worldgen has been unsuited for it for a long time, since Beta 1.8, and this has fixed it entirely. and how nice that many of the features here take after beta, like modulating height independently of biomes, and the new mob spawning (it didn't actually work like that in beta but it still fits beta's general "darkness" theme) edit: also, "continentalness" ;) I love this, thank you.

For people complaining about difficulty, i agree with everyone saying that the larger caves are now gonna be great for this to compensate for the lower light level spawning and torches will now not be annoying to fill in with endless torches and look horrible after (yay for mood lighting). But now the above ground at night will be easier to a degree but the implementation of the Zombie packs might actaully be viable now and they spot you from further. Also i geuinely think this is gonna make the game tougher considering the fact that now if you want to go caving in the day for example, you will always be fighting packs of enemies (with the higher spotting) at cave entrances and the odd place a glow lichen wont spawn could pack spawn. Its all about scaling up certain aspects alongside the larger generation changes so i agree with the changes so far.

This is a feature I've always wanted. Minecraft's generation has always felt way too flat to me. Variable biome height based on surrounding biomes will not only make large biomes (such as mountains or shattered savannahs) not stick out as much but will also make the terrain much less flat and boring. This is an amazing change!

Love the new terrain generation. I haven't tested the snapshot but the first thing that comes to mind is that you should make sure that there are areas with less extreme terrain as well since people want to build and extreme terrain makes both traveling and building difficult as you can't simply "dig" away a mountain to make space for buildings like you could with the old generation.

The terrain shape being decoupled from the biomes is probably one of the best choices ever. Even better is that some biomes only appear in some shapes :D I wonder if the terrain in general has some height variety over long distances, where you get some flat grasslands that are, like, 50 blocks above sealevel, but still flat. Some kind of height offset value based on the distance to the nearest ocean, where the further you're inland, the higher the terrain gets on average (but still below mountains) This could work nicely with rivers which are then actually generated to only move "down hill", towards the ocean. Same with lakes which could be similarly to the aquifers, at different elevations on the surface, potentially in low areas where rivers were "trapped". Though that would require river generation to be decoupled from biomes aswell Ah like gushing over stuff like that Also I was just thinking, an Edelweiss flower would fit quite nicely into the meadows
