I get that, but only when building large single structures (like the mansion I built, or the sci-fi dome city), and even then, I only tend to lower terrain, raising it only if I absolutely must. In contrast, I redid a fishing village a few months ago and it's got fairly variable terrain. It's easier when you're working with discrete buildings, since elevation changes between buildings aren't so much an issue. I've also been cooperating with someone else on the server over the last couple days. They built a variety of cottages in hilly forests along the coast (I think there's nine cottages), and I came in and connected them all with nice pathways, including a short passage through a sculpted pre-existing cave, and a trio of bridges to cross a river that runs through the area, connecting all the individual areas. That was refreshing, since I got long-distracted filling in buildings in my dome city, or carving out the underground residential blocks beneath it, or digging tunnels for the region-wide train network, or a wide range of other buildings around the region. Just about the only real terraining I've done in a while has been turning a hillside off the edge of the region into a blistered hellscape caused by an experimental energy weapon. Part of the problem with the dome city is it's pretty big (I think it's 175 blocks across), and it's hard to fill all that area in with reasonably scaled buildings of the same type... like, there's only so many residential towers, or shops you can build before you're out of ideas and out of creative energy. God damnit, I just remembered I still need to finish the mall under the market district... I'm ranting. Oops.

I'm the opposite. When you have a giant flat land, you can build anything on it. The options are limitless, and that usually results in me making a boring build. Using the environment always makes my buildings look better and function more creatively. It's just more fun that way, for me.

  • @HansHammertime

@@Jack-rk7jc same. Limitations force me to be creative in my build. That's also why I try not to make my houses perfect 5x5 blocks stacked onto one another. Having some nooks and crannies helps the build feel more realistic and lived in

When he builds mostly of wood, it doesn't look so fortified unless he forces it. With the desert buildings, they are supposed to look like that. Have you seen the old style buildings from the middle east? Lots of small buildings interconnected, with paths going under and over and all around. A few really big buildings for the rich, the church, and the government. Lots of open airflow.

@@tristanmitchell1242 I'm not saying that all buildings shouldn't be fortified but some houses must be ordinary. Moreover I have seen such style and it looks less military than Andy builds. Also, watch another videos with upgrade/build system: all buildings or some have a tower and little walls on the roof that make all the village fortified and ready to war. But it was only my opinion. I don't tell that my opinion is the only true and it is rather difficult to express or may be argue/discuss something because I'm from Kazakhstan where people speak mostly Kazakh and Russian

That's quite the idea, I'd wish for a storage room filled with hays, since it's winter so storehouse is a thing in winter village right? Then a big fireplace in a gazebo-like building with campfire outside, and a gathering area

The marketplace would be central to the whole build... hence why it is the place where the markets are... (Sorry to be that guy) Oh and the towers would have arrowslits.

I keep watching desert village transformations, since I'm halfway through doing one myself. I have 2 other desert villages to transform in my world, one of which is a zombie village over a ravine. I'm going to completely ruin that village, with the ravine being a scar in the earth from an old magical war.
