Imitone is audio software that can run standalone or as a plugin (VST) inside your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Imitone converts incoming audio signals - humming, whistling, or even another instrument - into MIDI notes that can then be played through your chosen virtual instrument!
This way of producing music - literally humming what's in your head - is invaluable to people like me who can't play well and don't yet know musical composition.

For the record, lots of people have had the same idea! At least 3-4 dozen tools like this have been built, going back to the 1980s. The actual hangup is that voice pitch tracking takes years of work to fine tune, so most of these projects didn't stay afloat long enough to reach maturity. I started making imitone in 2013-ish, and there are still several stops left on the roadmap for completing the tech.

I’m a total midi nerd and I love that you made this video. I personally use some software called Jam Origin Midi Guitar 2. It allows me to convert my guitar audio signal to midi(and I would imagine it would work with processing vocals as well, but I’ve never tried). Many products have been developed as electronic midi guitar instruments or special pickups or pedals to achieve the same result, but this works with any standard guitar or even other stringed instruments depending on their range. It’s a load of fun to be able to play a piano or keyboard part with a guitar.

I recall a lot time ago a device that was supposed to work similarly to Imitone. It had a mic on one and and a little box in the middle for controls and electronics or something, and this Imitone software re-creats what that was meant to do but better. It's very much something I'd been chasing for a while in my efforts to make music without a lick of musical knowledge. Add in all these other technical wonders like Midi and you can do even more than you set out to do.

So, as the Imitone-Team mentioned in an answer of a comment - I got some nice results(for that time) with my 80's Korg DVP-1 in the 90's with some workarounds. Don't forget for example the audio to midi function in Cubase that exists for years now. Didn't used it in realtime and can't compare this in realation of latency and quality with IMITONE. But I'm using for years a product (microphone+software) called "Vochlea", that works very well. Oh, and of course you should definitely mention this - it doesn't mean that the melody you have in your head is actually notated as midi notes. How many people can have melodies 'in their head' but can't articulate them? A lot. So the title "Mind to Melody" is quite (absolutely) wrong.
