I knew Odin was a master manipulator from the stores in the 2018 game, but this was a whole new level. I know the fake Tyr was very sus but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was just so ridiculously traumatized, and maybe that's why he acted that way. Because even if it was the real Tyr, his attitude would have still fit. -Calling Freya Frigg? Because that's how he and all the Aesir knew her before her banishment. -Being scared of fighting? Because he's a worn down soldier himself who was fed up with how Odin had abused him. -Hiding in a broom closet? Because just like Kratos, he wanted his privacy and to stay away from people. -Fearing Ragnarok? Because he always chose pacifism, he practiced peace no matter the cost. -Calling Atreus Loki? Because he was one of the few people the Giants trusted and would use his Jotnar name to show his solidarity with his kind. The game knew that we never actually met the real Tyr before, so it could still fool us. Had we known Ty'rs personality before finding him in the Aesir prison, we coulda seen the lies coming from miles away. Odin was really clever, until that one failed lie which Brok figured out.

I like that Mimir points out compassion isn't a weakness. Because while there are people like Odin that will exploit other's compassion it is not the fault of the person but the one exploiting it. Odin being Tyr was honestly a really good twist, and I love that his disguise wasn't absolute, keen players might pick up in something. Calling Fryea Frigg, his reaction to the true outcome of Ragnarok, his surpise about what happened to the ring, his cooking *knowledge*. The tiny detail with the subtitles. It was all wonderfully crafted which makes the betrayal hurt so much more as the take-no-crap Brok was the one to sense something was off.

I thought it was odd how easily Kratos and Atreus freed him when Odin went to such lengths to cover up his "death". It did take a long time to reach him and the path was swarming with hostile creatures which I thought might've been Odin's method of deterring anyone from searching the mines. But when I found Tyr's cell I was fully expecting a boss fight enemy to be guarding him maybe even an early rematch with Thor and thought it was strange how the Einherjar only arrived after Tyr was freed. But once that level was done I chalked it up to the producers must've believed fighting all those enemies would've been enough for the player, and in-universe Odin likely didn't feel the need to have sentries around Tyr since there wasn't any for Mimir. Then the rest of the game unfolded and I forgot these suspicions and I was kicking myself for not realizing my earlier suspicions.

  • @StareachValcin

I can understand why Mimir was so angry at Odin for fooling everyone into thinking he was Tyr, including Mimir himself. Freya and Mimir knew Odin personally, yet they were still fooled by his disguise. To make it worse, Odin was able to hide one of his ravens in the broom closet, as a means of going to and coming from Asgard, and he was able to come up with reasonable excuses to stay in the broom closet for long periods and to keep people from checking the broom closet. It just shows how much of a master manipulator Odin was.

@@pharaohbubbles1547 Don't open that can of worms. Ragnarok is one of the worst written pieces of media i've ever had the digust of playing. Retcons, contradictions, plot holes. I'll give you just one: The game starts with Atreus and Kratos looking for Tyr. Right? And a SECRET SHRINE, odin knows NOTHING about.... points them to Svartleheim. Now these shrines are never wrong. Prophecy and such. But in this particular case, they are wrong, because Tyr is Asgard. So Kratos and Atreus are looking in the WRONG place based on WRONG information. Odin meanwhile, without KNOWING that Kratos and Atreus have wrong information... diguses himself as Tyr in svartleheim. Man what a stroke of luck. Odin, without KNOWING the protags are working off of WRONG information, sets up a diguse that alligns PERFECTLY with said WRONG information. What a stroke of luck... the wrong information from a source that otherwise is never wrong, helps Odin out of sheer dumb luck. Bad writing. Bonus one: Cut surtr out of the story and nothing actually changes. IN fact everything turns out better if you cut surtr out of the plot extra bonus: Sindri is the biggest asshole ever. Apparently he could build a thing that breaks the Asgardian wall, but didn't. Milenia of genocide by Odin and he didn't do squat. and these are some of the SMALL ones.... The game is ass.

@@pharaohbubbles1547 Nitpicks? THe .... literal WAY Odin makes it into the good graces of the main characters ... a MAJOR plot point... is a nit pick...> The ENTIRE ENDING of the story... is a nitpick? Are.. are you insane?

@TheMajinTrunks the craft Sindri used destroyed the siege engines, not the wall itself. That part alone isn't a 'major' point in the story. It just happens Odin is a master manipulator. Anything he seemingly does is for himself above pretty much anyone. He tricks the protagonists as a person we knew nothing of but from stories, is kinda on brand for him, yea? The game does go out of its way to trick and show you several times somethings amiss You also seem to be in a small minority of people who don't like the game, but you seem to be the 1st to do so on some, rather interesting points. But, you didn't wanna open those cans, right?
