Why did Groa lie to Odin? What difference did it make? Mimir explains....

Ойындар

Atreus brings up a very interesting question. What difference did Groa think her lie would make when Asgard eventually gets destroyed in both versions and Odin would try to prevent it nevertheless?
Mimir brings up a very good point.
I personally feel that by hiding the truth, (knowing that at some point it will be discovered) Groa blinded Odin from realizing that the other realms will no longer put up with the Aesir after all the seeming tyranny meted out by Odin and Thor. The moment truth comes out, all the other realms will unite against Odin.
Had Odin known this earlier, in the name of self preservation, he and Thor may have laid waste to all the other realms.
What do you think? Do post your thoughts on this in the comments.
Thanks for watching.

I get it now. Groa lied by omission because if Odin knew that only Asgard will fall and all the realms will survive, he might have escaped to Midgard or any other realm, thus preventing his death at Ragnarok. But because she lied about all the other realms getting destroyed, Odin stayed in asgard and tried to defend it with all his might and forcing the other realms to help him and inevitably failed.

But if that was the case, why didn't Odin just do that during Ragnarok?

because it was odin vs the world, his family knew his colors, heimdall is gone, he killed thor and anyone else he thinks of as an ally, would have been easily eliminated because of Kratos and Freya and basically the rest of the world right? in another theory, Odin could not stand being ignorant of how it ends, he couldnt stand ignorant when he knew there was infinite knowledge about all of creation and everything just beyond the threshold of the mask and the mask was only in Asgard... and in his mind he knew thats why he killed so many and lost some of his own too... so he chose the lesser evil between being ignorant and being dead, the latter. what do you think? @zildjianabuser

yes I hear you... if the Odin in the game knew all except Asgard would fall, he would have even went to the lengths of invading every realm and even destroying them before anything happened to Asgard

@@mindIsAMonkey best guess would be maybe he had to stay to defend the rift, but Groa didn't know about that, only a glimpse that Asgard would be destroyed and all that. And she would have no reason to say that everything would be wrecked because she should want Odin to commence with Ragnarok not postpone it. Honestly what I think is the writers either rushed or didn't think too much about what was established in the first game.

@@zildjianabuser in my personal opinion, the nature of prophecies always give the end result. They don’t delve into the details. Mimir uses the specific term “slippery”. And Odin for the master of deception that he is, figured that if he couldn’t avoid something inevitable, then he could delay it. Or control enough factors to influence the outcome. For example, imprisoning the wolves skoll and hati. Honestly I think part of the prophecies was that the giants would be the ones to end him, this is why throughout the story, we hear how many giants were slaughtered by Odin and thor. Now many of these facts are presented in the first game and ragnarok through mimir’s narratives. I don’t think Groa had a lot of time to think what exact version of her prophecy to Odin would be foolproof since she was a giantess herself. She merely thought she was both tricking Odin and saving other realms at once….

Thing is the witches never technically lied; Groa’s lie still makes no sense.

Details are everything. Groa's lie concealed the fact that a God of War lead the armies as well as the Giants Champion as well hiding the fact that the prophecy specifically calls out Odin's death. The lie protected not only the real Tyr (because its likely had Odin knew the full prophecy he would have killed him) it also protected Kratos once Odin figured out who he was. That lie also protected Atreus because he would have very likely deduced (or suspected) that Atreus was the champion. Concealing the fact Odin specifically dies allows him a false sense of hope believing he can survive it even if Ragnarok happens. Once Odin discovered the true prophecy he became more desperate and dangerous.

I didn’t buy it either. A lot of plot points in this game felt like they were written at the last minute and not thought about at all
