Now he does, or at least he may try and learn about it :P Also, considering how pop the ESC universe is and how Fado is far removed from it, it's not really surprising… Unless you are very into world music or have a degree in ethnomusicology, knowing all traditional genres in Europe doesn't come off naturally. And Fado is so traditional and specific that I don't remember we ever having sent a Fado to the ESC, as that would be a next-level risky move (Spain does it and is doing it this year with an almost Saeta-like, Flamenco song, so there's that). We did have Fado singers at FdC before, but it's really so niche that I doubt one will ever win. It had to be something very modern and out there, like those performances by Mariza (one of the famous Portuguese Fado singers who, along with rock singer Marisa Liz, led Mimicat to get the stage name she has, by the way), and even then it would still be seen as too traditional by the general public. That's the thing with the Portuguese public and even the national jury; we're always halfway between that Swedish (and otherwise Europop) strategy of just sending plastic stuff in English, and the more risky moves of the likes of Spain and Eastern European countries, with their sometimes more traditional sounds. What we consistently end up with are timeless and eclectic classics *in Portuguese* (or at least heavily bilingual ones) which get a bit of a cult following. IMHO, it's a strategy which works nicely at the ESC, and even if we're not constantly winning this thing, at least we've been getting decent results and some praise out of it.

It's because for English native speakers it's very hard to get the FÁdu pronunciation... They do very well know FÁdow... well in the end it's just "Fado" (of course they all know it, they go on masses to Portugal every summer)... But hey it's not ignorance, just the accent... pronunciation... (even Brazilians have difficulties with the Portuguese from Portugal and the planet prefers to learn Brazilian Portuguese because it sounds much easier) Pains me to see some comments here calling it ignorant.. clearly only Portuguese that do not dominate English would say that... Wait until you say German words to a German with an English or Portuguese accent hahaha... None will ever know what you're talking about either... 😂 Try your Portuguese pronunciation for Schlager... I'd be surprised if people in Germany will know what you mean... 😂😂 If you wanna be understood with your Portuguese accent say: "Xlága" ...just a tip 🙃 Many of my English friends here in Germany already quit talking in German, because they could, they know all the words, lived here a long time, but they have such a strong accent, that Germans don't understand it and prefer it just in English to make it easier for everyone.. 😜 Yet you do have a point... just like you should be able to know Schlager (by the way.. it means Pimba music 😂), they should also be able to know Fado 😉😉 And that is why we should in print our accent in foreign minds... Just like Mimicat does, even if she speaks perfect English! So that, Stück für Stück we all get it :) C'est l'europe après tout non ? 💋

Oh, no, now I do not only hope, that she's gonna qualify, but also that her competitors are still gonna like her, if they've seen this. Don't let artists guess on other artists, I think, instead of living by the United By Music motto, you're living by the Divided By Guessing Games motto. And of course, the one guessiing had to be a female participant, you're probably not gonna do the same thing with male artists.

He doesn't really listen and is very rigid when the conversation veers off into spontaneity. I remember Nikki Tutorials doing this and you could tell she was more of an attentive listener and conversationalist. Perhaps because she wasn't a pro- interviewer. Rylan is used to this stuff and it shows. Going through the motions.

SO THAT'S WHY! All of those (10) years of indecision with her song ("All I am is a big confusion", she says) led to her submitting a demo 😮... and then had to wrap it up in just a month! Because it feels that is actually something gone completely haywire, an hyperbole, an exaggeration of something meant to be funny but it turned into a ridiculous (and cheap) bad taste of a mash of words about symptoms. I'm already depressed with her sad collection of words called song (lol). Here's its translation.
