    I made a big screwdriver rack in the furnace room to hold all my extra lesser used screwdrivers but I can still walk in there and easily pick one out if I need something different from the ones I keep in the shop area. When you waste a full day making a custom screwdriver rack it probably means you own enough.

    I was one of the guys who asked for a usa made series, and own mostly USA made hand tools. I own Mac, Snap on new and old, old Craftsman, newer channellocks as beaters (still USA made) and some semi newer SKs. They’re all good screwdrivers but I almost exclusively pickup my Japanese made Vessel screw drivers nowadays. They’re “cheap”, very well built, and that JIS (not a Phillips tip) is superior to the Phillips tips. If you haven’t checked out a Japanese Industrial Standard screwdriver do yourself a favor and get one. You’ll thank me later, the Philips tips are designed to cam out at 35 inch pounds. JIS will not cam out. It’s also all you should use on like Honda “phillips” screws. They’re actually JIS screws. However they do work better with Philips screws too. As I said if you haven’t check one out yet, you’ll thank me if you do. As a USA made fan boy, who preaches buying usa made products, I do recommend Japanese and German made products as well. More often then not, the best made anything comes from these three countries.

    I have to say this set is great, i have the 4-pc set and also have the demo set in the same grips. I have 2 longer ones (ph1 & ph2) coming should get in today. I really like the grip on these, feel great in the hand. The tips grip the fastners well and the knurling on the shaft is a nice touch. I have a set of old performance tool drivers with black grips kile those SKs, they are awesome until you get any moisure, grease or gunk in the mix, the not so much. Thanks for this series Jeff, im always interested in US made tools.

    Those are nice. I think Milwaukee opened a plant to manufacture their own stuff like that here. A lot of other american brands get Mayhew and a couple of other US companies to manufacture theirs for them. I recently invested in some Vessel Megadora with red handles and striking caps. Those just feel better in my hand than any other screwdriver I've held. The JIS tip is perfect for working on any type of japanese car, motorcycle, or atv. No more stripped screw heads on my Rubicon.

    I love those Milwaukee screwdrivers as well. Another USA Brand that I feel doesn't get enough attention is Channellock. I believe 80-90% of their tools are made in Meadville PA by American workers. Just saw the other day that they now have USA made screwdrivers and pry bars that look pretty nice for a good price.

  • @AToolWithTools

    @AToolWithTools

    All their pliers are made in USA, and every one of them except the snap ring pliers are made by them in Meadville (the snap ring pliers are Lang). The pry bars are sourced from Wilde and the screwdrivers were sourced from WF with an acetate handle until that closed down, now they get Mayhews with some slight modifications to the handle mold to make them just a little different in minute ways.

    I would like to point out with the holes, and you see them on their import line as well and on the USA pliers, that they can be used as tethering points. Its something a lot of companies dont seem interested in doing or making it an expensive option but for folks who need tethered tools they got the goods.

    I guess we got spoiled with those $20 full sets of USA made Craftsman screwdrivers from years back. The ones that were made by Western Forge in the USA and are marked "Forged" are hot forged and are stronger and better than the later ones that were not hot forged. The letters on the handle are date codes of when they were made. WF as most know went out of business in 2020 and they were a Craftsman supplier for decades. What a lot of folks may not know is that Sears provided the partial start up money for WF to be established in Defiance, OH. They move to Colorado Springs, CO in 1966.
