Mechanic Tools Are Here! About a year and a half ago we wrote that some of Milwaukee's contractor kits with sockets and a ratchet were the beginnings of mechanic tool sets. Well, it took a bit more time than we expected, but the same sockets are now available in 1/4" and 3/8" kits with 90 tooth ratchets.
In the above video, we go over some measurements that might let you know if these tools are made for you. If you are interested in the kits, here are what is currently offered.

Good post sir. They look fine to me. I have a bunch of 1/4 drive, I did look into a snappy set, just the deep metric sockets were 272.$ on sale. Most of my 1/4 is new Craftsman, so I bought a blue point 62pc set and a Snap-on ratchet and saved like 30.bucks over what just the deep set cost

Huge Milwaukee fan. They're killing it with their ideas on the storage of their combination wrenches and these sockets...but the price and wall thickness prices me out. Better options, I like Gearwrench. Tekton, HF (believe it or not), even the new Kobalt (I HATE Lowe's) mini-head ratchets are very good. I don't think you can get replacement singles for Milwaukee. Husky is made by Apex(Ratchets, wrenches), so it's a cheaper line of Gearwrench. The only real issue with Kobalt and Husky are that the larger sizes are 12-point only. Outside of super-cheap sockets; I've never had breakage, you always break the bolt (or i you have a crappy ratchet, the ratchet) first...especially on 1/4" or 3/8"

I love most of anything I’ve used made by Milwaukee , but those are very expensive for what you get. I just don’t see the square end being much help. If you need more leverage, it seems to make more sense to use a 3/8 ratchet/socket instead. Great video though, thanks for the review!

I thought 12pt sockets were primarily to give more positional flexibility for getting on the head of the bolt. I mean, 12pt sockets have been around as long as I have been using tools (1950's) and that was long before 12-point nuts/bolts became "stylish". :-) I have a set of 12pt sockets but prefer to use 6pt 99% of the time.

12 point bolts are used now because one can get more grip on a bolt with a smaller head. In fact, you can get 3 times the grip on a smaller bolt with a 12 point head. They are very popular now. Same with external torxs.

12 pt fasteners are in more common use but are not very common at all and are primarily used on high torque bolts. I turn wrenches on just about everything and only see them very occasionally. You can keep a set of pure crap 12pt. sockets in your toolbox and you'll never even flake to chrome on them, that's about how often you'll encounter 12pt. fasteners.

I keep a set of half decent impacts that are 12 point they really come in handy when working on really rusty bolts/nuts. Hammer them on say a prayer and hope for the best, a decent amount of axle nuts I come across are 12 point. Audi use 10 point and 7 point sockets on they're brake calipers on certain cars and SUV's and so do some Porsche's.

How is a wrench going to give me more torque on a socket when I have my extra long 1/4" flexhead snap on ratchet that you could literally stand on to break lug nuts loose with? If ya cant fit a ratchet in there I'd imagine a wrench on a socket will be a no go... probably go with the wrench alone.. if they work with a ratchet wrench that might be alright.

The patent on their original square ended sockets lists prevention of rolling, but when I skimmed it I didn't find any mention of being "wrench ready." So that might be another benefit of the design that they came up with after receiving the original patent. patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/f5/05/af/b02675108f3481/US9956670.pdf

Would have been a home run if there were like the grey pneumatic duo sockets. Use for impact and hand tools

Awesome review! I'm doing a tool box mod series and I'm looking for a good affordable tool kit to put in it later in the series. Milwaukee might be a good fit that or Tekton. If you get time check out my tool box vid and let me know your honest opinion. Thanks

I like Milwaukee and I have a lot of their power tools. However, I will say they are overpriced. I don’t get mine from the store....I buy them off of crates. But they are great tools

Milwaukee has come out with some great stuff and their hand tool are constantly improving but i think they are a little too proud of these. Doesn't seem to be worth the cost.

Before you give me crap, Yes Snap-On and Mac both cost more. I have an older Craftsman's set that is also by far better.

Sockets id rely on and worth the price but the ratchet id be concerned about its usually the problem with many ratchets use them couple times have to hold selector over when ratcheting other wise ratchet spins and not much force on ratchet just poor gear system .Say use a breaker bar but thats companies excuse to sell you junk .Many old ratchets from 50+ years ago you never had the the problem kicked truck lugs been on for years off with feet never hurt it one bit over and over .Id say unless you pay big bucks all your getting is junk !

Tools look great, this review video was bad. Looks like your looking for an excuse not to like these tools instead of saying how awesome they were.
