Thanks for posting this. I was looking at anvils that would "kind of" fit. I had this one picked out but was still skeptical. Thanks to this video I have it ordered and will install it shortly! I think i will make the reducer bushing out of steel as I do not have any brass/bronze.

I made one a while back but my anvil is super loose, it’s like a built in swivel 😂 that m12 3/8 converted is strong and really compact.

Too bad I don't have a lathe, otherwise, I would totally convert my m12 1/4 to a 1/2.

This video inspired me. Ive got a DCF900 that Id really like to upgrade to 3/4 as it seems to like to eat 1/2 sockets. The only example Ive found online is to take an anvil and bell housing from a DCF397, but dewalt has discontinued parts for them, and they dont really go for cheap online. I wonder if i could modify the 3/4 anvil to fit in the DCF900 housing, or modify the housing to fit the new anvil. Or if there is some other 3/4 anvil that would work. Wish i had more money to throw around on this, and a workshop, would make a great video.

I was going to do this … but found a stubby for $136 with battery and charger so nvm 😂

Hi Mike. Your modding videos gave me an idea. I have a M12 hammer drill but I wish it had a locking bit hex collet rather than the 1/2 in chuck. I'm thinking of replacing the threaded shaft with a custom made hex shaft. How would you tackle such a project?

Thanks for watching! That sounds like it would be a tough one. I think it would require a hex collet that’s two piece since the drill chuck is normally held on with a screw. It may be possible to make or modify a chuck screw to fit into the opening of a hex style bit holder but it would have to have a small diameter head. My thought with a two piece design would enable you to have a base with a large enough opening to use a chuck screw and then the hex collet could be fastened to the base somehow. Possibly just by having two screws pass through the “wings” on the sides of the anvil that normally get struck by the impacting assembly. Since the anvil is hardened you’d probably need to anneal it back enough to drill the holes. If the anvil is jigged up upside down with the hex opening submerged in water you could anneal just the wings without losing the hardness where the bit is held.

How much torq does that deliver?

That would be pretty tough since there are wires that run to the gearcase with no way to unplug them. Not impossible, just tough.

If you use the time slider and jump back/forward as I’m opening the bore, you can see the part slid backwards. I didn’t want to tighten it too much and distort it, but apparently I didn’t tighten it quite enough.

I will buy one of these impacts with the 3/8 conversion. Where can i purchase one?
