Been using the milwaukee 3/8” standard length ratchet since it first came out years ago. If you are trying to just break nuts loose by pressing the trigger you’re using this tool for the wrong purpose. This tool is really a driver not an impact - you simply crack the fastener loose the same way you would with a nonpowered ratchet THEN you pull the trigger drive the fastener on or off. It’s not meant to crack stuff loose with the trigger button. Same goes for tightening, drive it on with the trigger then finish by hand as you would with nonpowered ratchet. Guarantee that most people who break these tools are repeatedly trying to crack stuff loose with the trigger.

I understand that and that’s how we use them but they claim the breakaway torque numbers and that is what we were testing here. To see if they will actually breakaway what they claim
Milwaukee is like the Toyota of tools. Reliable, best warranty, not the strongest but probably the best made.

I have the snap-on 3/8 long neck and love it. Granted it was a gift. Snap-on prices are ridiculous. But they have to be. My snap-on guy told me this past Monday that the jeans he wears on a daily basis costed $150. I was surprised they weren't snap-on brand.
I am impressed with Milwaukee they have came along ways from what they used to be. I have burned up a snap-on dealer didn't tell me to keep the head grease.
Thank-you for your hard work on all the videos
Great review and comparison guys, and thank you for the upload 👍 My air ratchet wrench is rated at 80 Nm, but when I did a similar test to what you are doing here; it was more like 65 - 70 Nm, and that was using a 3/8”’ hose at 10 Bar.

I am fixing a bad delete on a Cummins CM-871 and just picked up this Milwaukee 3/8" extended ratchet, and this thing is the BOMB! My buddy bought a KW T-2000, fresh in frame and a fresh delete. Well, they removed everything except the VG Turbo, it was cooked, so it did not matter, but saved the $1000 core deposit for the new YTS Turbo out of Griffin GA, look him up, been running one on my 600hp CM-871 since 2017. Anyways, the turbo was toast from the bad delete, even cooked the exhaust pipe, it got that hot. Thank God the top of the motor looked good, and Insite had less than 4 hours at high temps broken up over a period of time, I think we caught it in time. This ratchet though, it worked! It even busted loose a few nuts and bolts that were in tight spots. I have to take everything off of the passenger side of the motor, found RTV vs proper gaskets on the cooling side, so this ratchet is going to get a workout! Damn glad I bought it, it is a keeper! And so is the M12 3/8" impact I bought along with it. These two tools work, and work as advertised.
Hi Clay NICE SHIRTS YOU GOT FOR THE COMPANY #1👍👍

I like both of these ratchets so much I had to watch it twice just because. I'm glad you guy's didn't stick some kind of reducing adaptor or extension on for this test because everybody would be looking for some glue since they just came unglued.
In a different review, I saw where the milwaukee put out more torque with a bigger battery with the square base.
Informative, thanks guys.

Milwaukee looks like a pretty good tool in comparison when you factor in the price difference.

I am snapon battery rachet fan but i also own the Milwaukee one as well. This was a good review very fair nice job fellas.
I use the Earthquake XT ratchet at work everyday for about 1 year now. It has less torque than either if these, but I wouldn't trade it for either of them based on price alone. These aren't impact wrenches, they nut and bolt spinners. I use the electric ratchet by hand for the first 1/4 turn and the last 1/4 turn and the motor for everything in between.
@obliviondio

I got the matco 16v 3/8 long ratchet, I didn't measure the torque but I felt it on my face lol it smacked me really hard xD

That’s interesting that you don’t like Milwaukee’s paddle switch. I tend to like it when really reaching for a fastener. I can hold the tool from the battery end and trigger the tool from the end of the ratchet, whereas on the snap on you have to be able to reach your hand beside the tool in whatever tight area you are working in. Cool video! Keep ‘em coming!

I like those ew shirts! Those are nice!
I think Milwaukee limits their tools power through Red Link, sometimes too much at least in this case, maybe to avoid warranty claims.
If it wasn't for already being totally invested in the m12 and m18 line I would of bought the snap on ratchets over the milwaukee. I just got my extended reaches and haven't even opened them yet. Buying all those batteries alone add up quick, for me I turned my wrenches in for a hammer, I kit out a 6 to 10 man crew with with the milwaukee fuel up in 18 volt and 12 volt. On my property I built (in process) a pretty sweet 3 bay shop also fully kitted out like you would see any independent shop, so getting into another battery line up wasn't exactly going to happen unless it blew my socks off, and unfortunately the 14.4 ratchets is the only snap on battery tool o would entertain, I know the new 1/2" impact is a beast and built to last but with that price tag I'd get the 1in milwaukee with a 1in to 1/2 in adapter and brake bolts all day long. Two things I love snap on and milwaukee tools.
Static torque is always higher. It takes more torque to brake it loose than to set torque. You showed that when you tested the torque when you removed the nut.
Nice comparison!! Those are some good looking work shirts. I’d say you’d be surprised if you offered those for sale

Milwaukee for guns , snap on for ratchets for me
Both of them are very impressive! 👍
Good review but that is only the 2.0 amp battery on the mikwaukee. Throw a 5 or 6 amp in and it will more powerful. Thanks for the reviews and videos!
Great video comparison, I think those Milwaukee 2.0 battery are under power, I always use my Milwaukee 6.0 battery unless space is a issue. I don’t like button on the snap is to high on the body. The shirts look professional.
Just sold my Milwaukee extended 3/8 for a snap on ctr767 long neck in high viz. Still love my 1/4 extended Milwaukee though.
@LKN4WAR

Snap on much better size for tighter spaces in 3/8 and the CTR768 is rated to 70ft lbs.
You should do a strength test and see which one handles more manual torque before breaking because we know Milwaukee redesigned it with the bigger head because the old ones were breaking when manually tightening/busting a nut

Busting a nut!!!
I have found with my milwaukee ratchets if i get it spinning and then slap it on the nut it will break a lot tighter nuts off. I dont have the extended ratchet yet. But i have the other 2 3/8 versions

How do you guys come up with this stuff. lol. Another guy wanted a guy to test the Milwaukee m12 right angle impact to see if it could be used as a ratchet it you just used it that way by never letting off the trigger as you "ratcheted" it to break the real stubborn ones off. Im not making fun of you guys I want to try your "slapping" and know about the other guys "ratcheting" LOL Take care and thanks for your experience.
@DIGGER19860

@@cameracamera1319 it came from using the tools a lot. It works pretty good. Kinda figured it out while frustrated.
The only thing I don't like about these electric ratchets is you have to take a running start at tighter bolts. I still love my snap on long necks the best. I have preordered the new long neck 3/8 that's supposed to be 75 foot pounds
One thing I've come to realize with milwakee and rigid tools is that the higher amp hour battery you use the full torque you will get from initial start of impact. So in this test you gentlemen are using a milwakee 2.5Ah 12V battery against a 14V snap on equivalent. I believe if you used a milwakee 6Ah battery instead of the 2.5Ah, that would give the milwakee a much better stand off to the snap on.
@KoonTrucking
3 жыл бұрын
Snap on was a 1.5 or 2 amp battery (old style) ? It wasn’t the new higher amp batteries they have. I can’t do anything about the voltage but equal amp batteries or as close as possible makes it as fair as it can ?
Wally it’s not that you used it in reverse, because if ya read that owners manual you’d know they’re capable of torque reverse threads. It’s that you use it to break bolt loose
@KoonTrucking
4 жыл бұрын
I think that’s what he was referring to because he broke it loose but at worse case it couldn’t have been over 75 ft lbs so no worries with that
Try using the bigger battery on the Milwaukee the performance may be different with larger amp hr battery like the snap on
Snap on for this design wins because of the smaller head and slightly longer reach considering both are comparable in power.

You got to neutral drop the ratchets! 😂
I really don’t think these electric ratchets need any more power. I have all the snap on ones never held a long neck Milwaukee but the shorter ones I did and they just felt awkward.
Clay do you know if SnapOn, Milwaukee, Matco, or any brand makes a long-neck electric ratchet that has a flex-head design??? Or do think it would decrease the torque too much?
I like the new m12 long reach fuel ratchet👍👍 I saw the new m12 digital torque ratchet on HD for $799
I have both Milwaukee and Snap-on long reach 3/8" drive and my Snap-on will get in to more tight places that my Milwaukee just can't go. My Milwaukee is starting to collect dust. But my 1/4" drive Milwaukee long reach is great getting in tight spots just need to change out 1/4" anvil for 3/8" if possible.
@Noname-lk2ol
4 жыл бұрын
Clifton Rogers why does everyone keep saying that about the "anvil" why does it need the same one? Also what is the anvil?
@MystiqWisdom
4 жыл бұрын
@@Noname-lk2ol The anvil is the square piece where the sockets attach to. I think it technically refers to the whole anvil piece, but the body of the anvil is usually hidden inside the tool housing.
I like the battery design on the Milwaukee M12. I bought the 1/4" hex impact impact from Mr. Joe mainly for the battery design the specs are plenty sufficient for me. I looked at other versions and I liked the Milwaukee the best. Mr. Joe gave me a good price on the driver so I'm going to have to flip a coin for either the ratchet or the underhood work light from him so I can use the same batteries.
Put on a 4.0xc battery on the Milwaukee extended ratchet will make it get 63.8 ft/bs. I just saw one video, in which the guy tested the torque performances and the breakpoint torques of several different brands' products when they were used as manual ratchets.
I snagged my brothers snap on cordless ratchet thought it would be useless after a few hours of using it don’t know if he’s getting it back 😂
Every time the Milwaukee starts to break it loose you put the snap-on on the fastener, try the snap-on first, if it doesn't break it loose then try the Milwaukee!! Lol
@KoonTrucking
4 жыл бұрын
We did at the end the Snap On was on the fresh 55 ft lb ?
Please make a video on your pallet table
What about manual breakaway torque of the ratchets?
I love Milwaukee and to be honest i like there power tools more than snap ons except the power ratchets snap on is far superior but Milwaukee electric guns are way better in my opinion
Great comparison! Milwaukee wins with 5 year warranty!
7:40 you can see the grease Wally put on it in just a few mins.
To be honest, I wouldn't buy the powered ratchet for it's torque rating. I would be likely to buy it for it's usefulness and convenience of use. I like the long neck the comfort of the handle and the speed of getting the job done. Now don't get me wrong there are plenty of places that you can get into that torque is very handy to have but I just don't see as the selling point of the ratchet. Great video Clay, and thanks for sharing.....
@infidel66687

Exactly, I use my electric ratchet every day all day at work. I'm in the habit of turning the first and last 1/4 turn by hand and using the motor on everything between. They are great tools but I think some people want it to be something it's not.
I just wish the Milwaukee would be a long neck as thin as the snap-onthe tapered head will make it a pain in the ass to get into spots in the Audi
@upnorth5465
4 жыл бұрын
I traded my Milwaukee long neck for the snap on for this exact reason. Too bulky and slower. I still love my 1/4 extended Milwaukee though.
Im a milwaukee man through and through. but I got to admit my snapon cordless ratchet is better then my milwaukee. thanks for the video.
Do the ol get a run up with the ratchet trick
Shit, I always get my socket flyin before I pop er on that sucker lok
Does the Milwaukee head get hot like the Snap On tends to?
If your feeling froggy hold that paddle down full send and slap that socket on the nut while going full speed and it will break all kinds of stuff loose I Dont Know exact torque but pretty impressive
If you were to use the XC battery it would be a lot stronger than the snap on
3 years later and i am back i think i will go with the Milwaukee it's a lot cheaper and i have a few batteries 👍😎👍
Electric ratchets imo aren’t designed to break loose fasteners with their motors, but they are still ratchets, so you can use it like a normal ratchet to break the fastener loose then zing it off with the electric part, or vis versa when installing a fastener.
should you always use impact sockets on a ratchet or can you use chrome
@KoonTrucking
3 жыл бұрын
You can use chrome because they don’t “impact”
Use them as regular ratchet wrenches when breaking and tightening. I think that's the point of these things. The torque isn't really important here as breaking and tightening should be done by hand anyway.
@KoonTrucking
4 жыл бұрын
The point of the test is that’s the claimed breakaway torque per the company that makes them. Claimed torque is what this is testing.
Lol this test was horrible ! Milwaukee broke it loose while the other loosened 😂
Its just used to take screws out without ratcheting, breaking it loose or tightening up to torque id use other tools
I bet if you put a 6amp hour battery in that milwaukee it will run circles around that snap on
I'll stick with my Hercules long reach the head and neck are quite a bit smaller and will get into tighter places and has good power for a lot less money
What was the size battery on that Milwaukee I know if you put a 5 or 6 amp on versus a two or three-year get more power that might be the difference between that 14 volt vs 12

Didnt know snap on was 14.4v seems close for m12 to the 14.4v
The biggest thing with Milwaukee is battery size and cells matters. The 4.0 xc will do this all day
Why not use an impact?
I guess Milwaukee has the edge on $price$, snap on for speed. Either way they'll both pay for themselves.
I hear you can get more torque out the Milwaukee with a bigger battery. I think the xc6.0.
0the snap-on had a little advantage with the bigger battery I think if you put a 4in for a 6in but not the walkie it probably would have broke it free like it was butter
@KoonTrucking
4 жыл бұрын
What about the rating ? Snap On is rated for less ? The Milwaukee claims to be stronger than Snap On. As far as bigger battery goes the 14.4 platform is what snap on makes and 12 volt is what Milwaukee makes still doesn’t change the rating they claim to do ? And the Milwaukee had a 2 amp battery where Snap On had a 2 amp battery.
