Been using the milwaukee 3/8” standard length ratchet since it first came out years ago. If you are trying to just break nuts loose by pressing the trigger you’re using this tool for the wrong purpose. This tool is really a driver not an impact - you simply crack the fastener loose the same way you would with a nonpowered ratchet THEN you pull the trigger drive the fastener on or off. It’s not meant to crack stuff loose with the trigger button. Same goes for tightening, drive it on with the trigger then finish by hand as you would with nonpowered ratchet. Guarantee that most people who break these tools are repeatedly trying to crack stuff loose with the trigger.

I have the snap-on 3/8 long neck and love it. Granted it was a gift. Snap-on prices are ridiculous. But they have to be. My snap-on guy told me this past Monday that the jeans he wears on a daily basis costed $150. I was surprised they weren't snap-on brand.

I am fixing a bad delete on a Cummins CM-871 and just picked up this Milwaukee 3/8" extended ratchet, and this thing is the BOMB! My buddy bought a KW T-2000, fresh in frame and a fresh delete. Well, they removed everything except the VG Turbo, it was cooked, so it did not matter, but saved the $1000 core deposit for the new YTS Turbo out of Griffin GA, look him up, been running one on my 600hp CM-871 since 2017. Anyways, the turbo was toast from the bad delete, even cooked the exhaust pipe, it got that hot. Thank God the top of the motor looked good, and Insite had less than 4 hours at high temps broken up over a period of time, I think we caught it in time. This ratchet though, it worked! It even busted loose a few nuts and bolts that were in tight spots. I have to take everything off of the passenger side of the motor, found RTV vs proper gaskets on the cooling side, so this ratchet is going to get a workout! Damn glad I bought it, it is a keeper! And so is the M12 3/8" impact I bought along with it. These two tools work, and work as advertised.

I use the Earthquake XT ratchet at work everyday for about 1 year now. It has less torque than either if these, but I wouldn't trade it for either of them based on price alone. These aren't impact wrenches, they nut and bolt spinners. I use the electric ratchet by hand for the first 1/4 turn and the last 1/4 turn and the motor for everything in between.

That’s interesting that you don’t like Milwaukee’s paddle switch. I tend to like it when really reaching for a fastener. I can hold the tool from the battery end and trigger the tool from the end of the ratchet, whereas on the snap on you have to be able to reach your hand beside the tool in whatever tight area you are working in. Cool video! Keep ‘em coming!

If it wasn't for already being totally invested in the m12 and m18 line I would of bought the snap on ratchets over the milwaukee. I just got my extended reaches and haven't even opened them yet. Buying all those batteries alone add up quick, for me I turned my wrenches in for a hammer, I kit out a 6 to 10 man crew with with the milwaukee fuel up in 18 volt and 12 volt. On my property I built (in process) a pretty sweet 3 bay shop also fully kitted out like you would see any independent shop, so getting into another battery line up wasn't exactly going to happen unless it blew my socks off, and unfortunately the 14.4 ratchets is the only snap on battery tool o would entertain, I know the new 1/2" impact is a beast and built to last but with that price tag I'd get the 1in milwaukee with a 1in to 1/2 in adapter and brake bolts all day long. Two things I love snap on and milwaukee tools.

One thing I've come to realize with milwakee and rigid tools is that the higher amp hour battery you use the full torque you will get from initial start of impact. So in this test you gentlemen are using a milwakee 2.5Ah 12V battery against a 14V snap on equivalent. I believe if you used a milwakee 6Ah battery instead of the 2.5Ah, that would give the milwakee a much better stand off to the snap on.

To be honest, I wouldn't buy the powered ratchet for it's torque rating. I would be likely to buy it for it's usefulness and convenience of use. I like the long neck the comfort of the handle and the speed of getting the job done. Now don't get me wrong there are plenty of places that you can get into that torque is very handy to have but I just don't see as the selling point of the ratchet. Great video Clay, and thanks for sharing.....

Exactly, I use my electric ratchet every day all day at work. I'm in the habit of turning the first and last 1/4 turn by hand and using the motor on everything between. They are great tools but I think some people want it to be something it's not.

I just wish the Milwaukee would be a long neck as thin as the snap-onthe tapered head will make it a pain in the ass to get into spots in the Audi

I traded my Milwaukee long neck for the snap on for this exact reason. Too bulky and slower. I still love my 1/4 extended Milwaukee though.

Electric ratchets imo aren’t designed to break loose fasteners with their motors, but they are still ratchets, so you can use it like a normal ratchet to break the fastener loose then zing it off with the electric part, or vis versa when installing a fastener.

Use them as regular ratchet wrenches when breaking and tightening. I think that's the point of these things. The torque isn't really important here as breaking and tightening should be done by hand anyway.

The point of the test is that’s the claimed breakaway torque per the company that makes them. Claimed torque is what this is testing.

What about the rating ? Snap On is rated for less ? The Milwaukee claims to be stronger than Snap On. As far as bigger battery goes the 14.4 platform is what snap on makes and 12 volt is what Milwaukee makes still doesn’t change the rating they claim to do ? And the Milwaukee had a 2 amp battery where Snap On had a 2 amp battery.
